Still testing but so far so good.
- Pros: Seems to work as advertised.
Looks cool. Prompt Newegg service and shipping. Reasonable price considering this type of memory is obsolete.
- Cons: None other than the Mushkin memory would not post at anything above 400Mhz (stock speed for the A7N8X-E Deluxe) until I changed a setting in the BIOS. I had to change the "By Speed" setting to 100% "synced" setting.
- Other Thoughts: I am not really sure why I bought this memory except for the fact that my ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe motherboard (socket 462) continues to run great and I wanted to milk another year out of it. I was running 2 x 512mb Crucial Ballistixs and I wanted to upgrade to 2gb of memory. I have a Barton 3200 and the best stable overclock I found was 2.415Ghz running 10.5 x 230Mhz. I always felt these numbers were the limits of the motherboard and CPU however with the Mushkin memory I am currently running 10 x 245 = 2.450 and it seems like it will go higher. I want to run some stability tests at this speed before I try to go higher. I would like to see how far this memory will go above it's rated speed (500Mhz) however I think I will hit the motherboards limits first. Net result is the Mushkin memory is providing me with the best overclocking I have seen with this CPU and motherboard.
Fast Memory
- Pros: Fast, easy OCing, runs @ 265 stable. Just great memory all the way around.
- Cons: None, if you know what you are doing.
- Other Thoughts: What else can I say.......wow!!!! Runs fine @ 3.4v
Awesomeness
- Pros: This memory is the fastest DDR1 that I could find and it works great. To get to 250MHz you do have to overclock your CPU and motherboard, but it works as advertised. To get speeds above stock you need to change the DDR voltage to about 2.7v or 2.8v on my board, but it can handle it.
Currently overclocked my P4 2.6GHz Northwood CPU to 3GHz with the memory clocked at 233MHz (DDR466) and the CPU is at stock voltage. I can get higher overclocks on air cooling by increasing the CPU core voltage, but I already hit my target speed so no need to risk it.
If you plan on getting this make sure it works with your motherboard. You can run at stock speeds at stock voltages, but what is the point in getting overclocking memory if your motherboard can't over clock it? Just do the research before you buy and make sure this is for you.
- Cons: DDR466 was the highest I could go without increasing CPU core voltage, but that is a con of my CPU and not a con of the memory.
- Other Thoughts: ABit IS-7 (865P, ICH5)
P4 2.6c Northwood 478 2GB Mushkin Redline DDR500 2.7v
Idle CPU Temp. ~32c Load CPU Temp. ~63c Idle CPU Temp. ~30c Load CPU Temp. ~52c Case Temp. ~30c Temperature readings do not stay high for long when CPU load drops to 0%. I have Thermal Throttling set to 25% but haven't seen it activate yet...
Memtest86 and Prime95 stable at DDR466 with stock CPU voltage (Air cooled) Memtest86 and Prime95 stable at DDR500 with slightly increased core voltage (Air cooled).
No doubt the memory could do more, but I'm just not sure about the processor. Don't want to risk killing a good CPU...
