1 out of 5 eggsWhat is happening to NewEgg ?

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Essentials 4GB (2 x 2GB) 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Dual Channel Kit Laptop Memory Model 996559

Pros: None.

Cons: The invoice said the memory modules would be in the box, they were not and getting customer support is slower than it should be. ZERO EGGS is appropriate, but not allowed.

Waiting for customer support. At this rate it makes sense to just use <competitor>, though I am of the belief that competition is necessary at this rate ...

Pros: brought new life to a old Dell laptop

Cons: wanted and waited 4 a month for the 800 speed to come back in stock, with "price alert" finally gave up since it being old memory SOO guess what shows up 5 days after I received and installed it you guessed right the 800 speed 2 dollars cheaper

5 out of 5 eggsWhite Macbook upgrade

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Essentials 4GB (2 x 2GB) 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Dual Channel Kit Laptop Memory Model 996559

Pros: This ram was instantly recognized and boosted my ability to multi task on my older early 2008 macbook. It took me less than 2 min to install and I'm able to get my work done faster. I won't be needing to upgrade my laptop to a newer model.

Great deal!
I have used this for 8 hours so far with no trouble.

Cons: Nothing with the product. It is fully functioning.

Other Thoughts: On the shipping I recommend upgrading if you need it sooner than 7 days. I used the free egg saver shipping which used DHL and USPS. Not the fastest but it arrived safely in a week. Just in time for my 3 week trip where I'll be needing my macbook. Phew!

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great!

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Essentials 4GB (2 x 2GB) 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Dual Channel Kit Laptop Memory Model 996559

Pros: What can I say, it fits, it works, and all is wonderful at my desk :)

Cons: The only hiccup in the installation of the ram in my Acer Aspire 5100 was when it wouldn't POST, but that was due to a BIOS setting for shared graphics memory. It was set t0 64MB, and the limit of usable RAM is 3.75GB. So I needed to set shared graphics memory to 256MB to allow it to POST properly. It runs like a dream now!

5 out of 5 eggsGlad I bought it.

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Essentials 4GB (2 x 2GB) 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Dual Channel Kit Laptop Memory Model 996559

Pros: Super cheap and works very well. I was apprehensive to buy the budget RAM, but it worked perfectly for the laptop I was refurbishing. This is my new go-to DDR2 SODIMM for future repairs.

Cons: None. Not one single con. Good product.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Upgrade

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Essentials 4GB (2 x 2GB) 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Dual Channel Kit Laptop Memory Model 996559

Pros: Value Priced
Windows loads a little faster

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: Just received this today to upgrade on RAM for HP DV9000 which I just resurrected from my pile of unusable laptops. It didn't hang as much after I installed the RAM. It was a noticeable difference as I still have the WD Scorpio 250GB 5400 RPM HD and 2GB or RAM that came with the computer.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat meemory chips

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Essentials 4GB (2 x 2GB) 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Dual Channel Kit Laptop Memory Model 996559

Pros: Fantastic compatibility. I have yet to find a DDR2 laptop these will not work in. For the dollars, the compatibility and memory size, adds quite a bit of "zing" for most laptop upgrades.

Cons: These could be a bit faster, but then would the compatibility be there?

Other Thoughts: We tend toward these memory modules when free shipping is offered because they just work.
There are cheaper modules but the few dollars you might save are not worth the headaches of incompatibility or random blue screens.

5 out of 5 eggsMushkinizing a Dell XPS 1210

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Essentials 4GB (2 x 2GB) 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Dual Channel Kit Laptop Memory Model 996559

Pros: Upgrading RAM allows old laptop better performance

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: The year-2006 Dell XPS M1210 originally sold for $1000-$2000. It was a very good computer, limited by its 5-pound weight and a processor that is slow by 2013 standards.

The RAM is easily installed, but only one RAM stick goes into the usual bay. If you were beginning with two RAM sticks, say, each 1 GB, you'd really need only upgrade this "easy access" stick anyway. You'd end up with a total of 3 GB of RAM, which is the most cost-efficient amount for a 32-byte Windows system.

I knew that, but I wanted 4 GB anyway. A 32-bit system would use only about 3.25 GB, and so the second stick is mostly wasted, but I wanted as much RAM as I could get. There are ways to increase the 3.25 usage, but I was okay with just the usual max access of 3.25.

So I had to put in the second stick. You have to pry up the hinge plate and unscrew the motherboard to do that. Sounds a whole lot worse than the 5 minutes it takes. (The pry is easy and the unscrewing involves only 3 screws.)

BUT—as someone had fortunately pointed out—when you first start up your computer afterward, it will display a black screen with 3 short sentences. The wording is ambiguous but YOU ARE FINE. You have to DO NOTHING and JUST WAIT FOR ABOUT 2 MINUTES. This is extremely important.

The messages intend to tell you that something has happened to your computer's RAM—of course it has; you upgraded it. And, if you have NOT just finished upgrading it—but you HAVE—then you should reseat your RAM. But none of that applies to you.

Trouble is, the screen just stays like that. And, feeling some anx from having just done the RAM replacement, you might get scared and panic. NO, NO! DO NOTHING. You have already SUCCEEDED. But you now have to wait a couple of minutes with that black screen just sitting there.

At this point, your laptop is actually adjusting itself to the new RAM. This is a one-time-only wait. It won't happen on subsequent boot-ups.

All of a sudden it's finished; it's okay; and up comes Windows.

Is the job worth doing? You bet. As I said, the sweet-spot for cost is to use 3 GB RAM in your XPS M1210.

Although Windows shows you what you have, you can download either Speccy or else CPU-Z (both totally free at Filehippo and other places) and get more info about your system and your RAM.
