5 out of 5 eggsExcellent SSD

Pros: I bought two of these SSD's off of Dell's website because I didn't know that newegg was sellilng these. Samsung has never made a 256 GB Sata 1 SSD, this SSD uses the newer Samsung controller. Corsair uses the newer Samsung Drives. This drive has a min reads 180 MB/s and max reads of 220 MB/s with a access time of .1 ms. Doesn't suffer from stuttering like the Jmicron drives do. I used this drive in my Thinkpad T400 and the second one in my utra bay adapter.

Cons: None.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I just bought a refurbished DELL system, I can confirm that they include these in the system.

On the drive it reads model: SAMSUNG MMDOE56G5MXP-0VD1 2.5" 256GB SATA II MLC, it's even written SATA-2 on it. Mfg 3-22-09. However DELL do not sell these on their site yet, they sell the cheaper SATA-150 version.

This hard drive is great, very fast. No lags. What else can you ask for?

Cons: None so far.

Pros: This drive is a great value. Been around for 2 months and SSD's are always changing but this drive performs real well for the price and storage. I think it's one of the best values in SSD's for now.

Cons: No Firmware updates and this is the biggest issue.
Someone needs to provide firmware updates for these drives, so far Samsung has not.

Other Thoughts: The individual below regarding Dell is confused. Point 1 the 256GB Samsung SSD's shipping with new systems is indeed SATA II. I have one and have benchmarked extensively, so I should know.

The Dell aftermarket parts has some confusion on the site, as it's listed as SATA 1. Although, people have purchased it through aftermarket and have confirmed it as surpassing 200 Mb/s and say it says SATA2 right on the drive at sites like notebook review so it doesn't appear to be hamstrung at 150mb/s either, typo.

This was an incredible deal as a Dell addon for a laptop for 325.

Pros: First off, newegg you need to make it so people can respond to reviews. Basically I want to say to the reviewer that said Dell puts these in their laptops, are you sure? What dell sells on their site is the SATA I (that's One) version. Search Dell's site for 256GB ssd and you'll see the SATA I version of this drive as a replacement for select laptops.

Cons: Dell sells the SATA I, not this SATA II drive.

5 out of 5 eggsSeems fine/first impressions

Pros: Faster than my velociraptor. My computer starts faster, programs open faster.

Cons: Not sure if its worth the price. I bought it to use with my MBP early 2008 but I found out the hard way (after buying) that its ich8-m is limited to 1.5 Gigabit. I decided to put the ssd in my Mac Pro then.

Here is one of the best xbench results from the ssd in the MBP:
Disk Test 159.12
Sequential 116.05
Uncached Write 206.47 126.77 MB/sec [4K blocks]
Uncached Write 124.38 70.37 MB/sec [256K blocks]
Uncached Read 58.12 17.01 MB/sec [4K blocks]
Uncached Read 228.34 114.76 MB/sec [256K blocks]
Random 253.01
Uncached Write 120.95 12.80 MB/sec [4K blocks]
Uncached Write 220.04 70.44 MB/sec [256K blocks]
Uncached Read 1334.13 9.45 MB/sec [4K blocks]
Uncached Read 444.96 82.57 MB/sec [256K blocks]

Well, it is not instant computing yet, which is an old dream of mine, but a step closer. Maybe within the next generation of sata.

Other Thoughts: here are some xbench results for the ssd in the Mac :
Disk Test 261.69
Sequential 242.72
Uncached Write 305.41 187.52 MB/sec [4K blocks]
Uncached Write 299.31 169.35 MB/sec [256K blocks]
Uncached Read 134.37 39.32 MB/sec [4K blocks]
Uncached Read 412.81 207.48 MB/sec [256K blocks]
Random 283.87

Uncached Read 2642.51 18.73 MB/sec [4K blocks]
Uncached Read 605.75 112.40 MB/sec [256K blocks]

here are results from the velociraptor:

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome SSD

Pros: These are the same Samsung 256GB drives that Dell puts in their computers - they are fantastic - I've been using one for a couple of months now and have not ever had a single problem.

Cons: Well, price, but it was only a $400 upgrade at Dell :)
