reliable memory

Tech Level Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 week to 1 month
Pros: My board recognized the SPD timings for 800 and 1066 with the bios memory settings at auto, but for 1066 I had to overclock to reach that of course. These sticks can run 800 at 4-3-3-9, which is the lowest my bios has, but I'm currently leaving them at a very nice 1200 at 5-5-5-18. I have managed to run these at 1240+ but I didn't want to risk anything so I settled down. Although I'm sure some of you out there would much rather settle with a balance of moderately high speeds with fairly low timings, and I'm confident that these sticks can do that without a problem.
Cons: These modules do become pretty warm at higher speeds. Actually running at 1200 with 2.4 (which seems like overkill) these things are very hot to the touch. However running at 800 and 1066 with it's rated voltage leaves it at a more reassuring level of heat.
Other Thoughts: I'm running these with an ABIT IP35Pro and an E6600 running at 3.6 Ghz on stock cooling in an Antec Nine Hundred case. These sticks are very stable.

Great Micron D9 RAM

white Reviewed By: Vinas on 10/18/2007

Tech Level Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 day to 1 week
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Micron is the parent company and saves the best for themselves. These D9's will run 1000 1:1 ratio at 4-4-4-10 (2.0vdimm). The price is really why you should buy these instead of the OCZ, Dominator, Mushkin, or whatever. These are Micron D9's that have a lot of OC headroom.
Cons: Look at the sticks when you open them. Make sure the heatspreader is touching the RAM chip. A little press will make sure they are in contact... Higher vdimm at 2.2v might be a little much for systems without good airflow. These sticks do get warm and I wonder if some of the heat is from all the lights. It's seriously like an x-mas tree inside my case!!! Not really a con because people think it's leet. ;)
Other Thoughts: I'd buy these again *or* the regular ballistix (non-tracer version). They auto detected on my p35 Blood-Iron @ 1.9vdimm and 800MHz. Easily cranked them up to 1100 (they seem like they'll do more -- i didn't try) before settling for 1000MHz 2.0vdimm 4-4-4-10 at 1:1 ratio. I'm running 4GB on 64bit Linux.

Would not recomand.

Tech Level Tech Level: average - Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Got it to replace my dead 2x1GB sticks. Worked will for about a two weeks till I started to get....
Cons: Tons of BSOD crash after crash after a crash. Ran Memtest that pretty much showed nothing but errors for each pattern. Only bought this ram because I thought the Crucial Ballistix was a preimum line of ram and would replace the other RAM that I had with this...
Other Thoughts: The only reason why I even went with Crucial was because two years ago I picked up a laptop and in the community Mushkin and Crucial was highly recommended if you wanted to up your RAM. After getting these and having terrible experience I will never buy another set of Crucial ram again thinking I'll get something premium when in fact it was not.
Bought some Gskill DDR800 to replace these and the Corsair (crossing fingers).
FOOD for thought: my old system that I'm using to run lunix to play around on is running on a DFi LanParty Ultra-D MOBO with a AMD FX53 Clawhammer core CPU. The ram? PQi DDR 2x512MB sticks that's been reliable for over four years. I guess price doesn't buy quality these days.

Caveat Emptor!

Tech Level Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 week to 1 month
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Pretty lights
Cons: Pretty lights stop changing when computer Bluescreens which happens continuously past the first week of ownership. I purchased two of these kits, both lasted around 1 week. Both were replaced by Newegg including return shipping at their expense. Both of the replacements went DOA within a week as well.
Other Thoughts: I didn't buy them for the lights, I bought them because they were supposed to be "performance" memory. I suppose since I wanted to use them in a server for the next 3 years, I was picking the wrong application, these must be geared toward folks who buy computers weekly so they can always have the best performance. My new thoughts are to stay away from Crucial *forever* and go back to something tried and true, like Kingston or PQI.
