2 out of 5 eggsKeeps crapping out

Pros: Great price for fast solid-state drive - when it shows up in the BIOS

Cons: Many times, the laptop lost the drive and it would not show back up until taking the drive out and resetting the BIOS a few times in a row.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect for small machines!

Pros: 1.8" form factor - required for some ultralight machines, such as my Latitude XT2.

Speed - this thing blows the 1.8" mechanical hard drive I had completely out of the water. It feels like a totally new machine. It went from "Oh jeez do I have to use this laptop" to "I can't wait to pick it up."

Specs - I used CrystalDiskMark with a 100MB sample file. It gets a 240MB/s sequential read and 127MB/s sequential write.

Cons: Not sure how to read the firmware version on the device. I tried updating it with the latest firmware from Crucial, which you have to download then burn the ISO to a CD. That's a bit of a pain considering lots of laptops don't have CD drives any more. Anyways the firmware update gave me a somewhat cryptic message about being unable to update the drive, so perhaps it has the latest firmware already.

Other Thoughts: I bought one refurbished from a popular online auction place whose name starts with e. It was a great deal, though honestly if it's a machine you're going to use a lot and you have to have a 1.8" form factor, this is a great drive. The performance improvement over a typical 1.8" mechanical drive is truly astounding.

BTW I did not require any special adapters to put it in my latitude XT2. It fits perfect as is.

4 out of 5 eggsMakes some laptops usable!

Pros: Replaced Factory installed SSD in a Dell E4200 (Samsung Thin 64GB uSATA MLC) Overall write speed doubled. Handled multiple HDD read\write ops far better then the factory installed. I don't have bench numbers to prove it, but it made a small laptop not only usable, but desirable. and now I have a 64GB flash drive for portable needs as well. Overall the $250 will pay for itself in the first three months by way of added productivity.

Cons: This product is reaching the end of the production line and is already not a current offering by Crucial.

Other Thoughts: Painfully, it was not a drop in place replacement. Dell did not ever intend another SDD to be put in place. I would have prefered to upgrade my entire fleet of E4200's with the Crucial SSD if it had fit without m0dificati0ns to the laptop case.

5 out of 5 eggsBest upgrade ever!

Pros: Easy laptop upgrade, massive performance increase!

Cons: Minor spinning beach ball issues with VLC on OS X. Had to update the firmware and issue is now completely resolved.

Other Thoughts: Installed in my 1st gen macbook and it's an entirely new machine! My laptop is now faster than a brand new macbook pro with standard hard drive! Boots in 12 seconds, apps launch instantly. A little pricey, but if you can find a sale it's worth every penny.

5 out of 5 eggsBest Value for a 1.8" SSD

Pros: In the 1.8" size range their are only three GOOD options I know of: the Intel X-18, the 1.8" OCZ Vertex 2, and this drive.

The current per GB price is 26% less than the nearest competing product, and the performance is on par or better. SATA III should give a slight boost to the read performance, but I do not have it.

Cons: Still could be cheaper. If you are looking for new SSD it might be worth the wait (release February or March 2011?) for the Crucial C400. Anand rumors that the C400 will be about $1.61 per GB while also 15% faster.

Other Thoughts: 1.8" Crucial C300 128GB
Crystal Disk Mark: (all tests using x5 1000MB, SATA II connection only!) My brother's 160GB Intel X-18 (speed) is included here for reference:
Seq Read: 262.1 (258.8)
Seq Write: 135.3 (106.8)
512K Read: 135.3 (106.8)
512K Write: 258.3 (192.3)
4K QD32 R: 94.2 (162.1)
4K QD32 W: 70.9 (87.2)

4 out of 5 eggsMixed Thoughts

Pros: It worked out of the box. It wasn't confusing to set up. I didn't run into the firmware issues that I've read that others here have run into. Perhaps mine was new enough that it came with the updated firmware already.

Cons: I purchased this to be a boot drive to install Windows 7 onto hearing that it would be insanely fast. In all honesty, it's a little quicker than it used to be on my normal HDD but I'm not really all that blown away by it. If I had known how little a difference in speed there would be I probably would have just purchased a fast normal HDD and saved a hundred dollars.

Other Thoughts: As others have already said, you need an adapter cable which really should have come with thew drive. Luckily I read the reviews here in advance and purchased one in advance but it probably should be made more clear in the item description that one is needed.

5 out of 5 eggsFASSSST

Pros: FAST and has enough space for your OS and games.

Cons: SSD's still pricey, but that's the price for speed these days.

Other Thoughts: I have a 64G version of this same drive to, these things are awesome. My i5 64bit windows 7 system boots in 12 seconds!!!! Just WOW, I'll never be able to go back to a standard Hard drive again. I work with servers, SAN's, NAS's, and VMware setups and this thing flat out kicks just about everything's Bootie!

4 out of 5 eggsMy first SSD, You may need an adapter.

Pros: Fast boot times. BIOS takes 25 seconds, but Windows 7 only takes 20 seconds to boot.

In games, I'm always the first person into the dungeon/level by 5-10 seconds.

Cons: Only 128 GB.

Needs a cable or an adapter that supplies 3.3 volts. Older laptops and desktops (using adapters) don't supply the drive with the NEEDED 3.3 volts on the SATA power. (Costs $18 for a cable and $35 for a 2.5" shell.)

Subtracted an egg, as they company should have included an adapter in this retail-boxed product.

Other Thoughts: Newmodeus has 2.5" to 1.8" adapters that convert the 5v down to 3.3v. Newegg does not stock these parts.

Capacity for the price will double in the next few months, but speed will still be limited by your SATA connection.

5 out of 5 eggsThanks one of the best.

Pros: Its one of the best SSD I have. I receive a good response with this one, almost 2 times faster than my other SSD. Everything moves faster with it. I put it in a Dell Optiplex 750 and with simpli software ( HD Tech) my numbers were near 260 burst read and 230 read or better. The graph shows an almost straight line on the top of the graph, from left to right. while an HDD is near a diagonal line, from upper left to lower right. Its near 5 times faster than my fastest HDD. And Newegg has the best price.

Cons: Now sure there is.

Other Thoughts: Its selling at Newegg for near $60 less than what I paid for it.
