The best just got better. Continuing the tradition of Crucial's award-winning solid-state drives, the m4 offers mobile and desktop users scorching-fast read and write speeds, groundbreaking SATA SSD computing, and unparalleled performance for the dollar. High-speed synchronous MLC NAND, advanced Marvell controller technology, optimized NAND management and the SATA 6Gb/s interface together dramatically improve data transfers for bandwidth-demanding applications. Plus, Crucial's products are built on Micron's decades of design and manufacturing expertise. It is their expertise in NAND technology that enables them to optimize the performance and endurance necessary to build quality solid-state storage devices.

As with all solid-state drives, Crucial M4 contains no moving parts and therefore uses less power than a typical hard drive and runs quietly. Utilizing standard 2.5" hard drive dimensions for most notebooks, the SSD can also be installed into a 3.5" drive bay in desktop systems with the included 3.5" adapter bracket.

  • newegg Speed demon The Crucial m4 SSD builds on the success of the award-winning, wildly popular Crucial RealSSD C300 solid-state drive by offering mobile and desktop users scorching-fast read and write speeds, groundbreaking SATA SSD computing, and unparalleled performance for the dollar.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks great after bios flash

Pros: *Extremely fast due to being a SSD

*Large quantity of SSD storage space

Cons: Drive needs a firmware flash update from the Crucial Website to fix bugs with potential Operating Systems.

Other Thoughts: Only reason I set this at 4 stars as some people have run into problems due to the flash update, I have not.

1 out of 5 eggsWorks great until it stops

Pros: Fast and Easy to install
Made my old laptop feel much more responsive.

Cons: Installed in Sept and worked like a charm until Jan when I got a BSOD while reading my morning emails. Lost all data on drive. RMA'd and tried again. Second drive lasted one month until again without warning drive failed with loss of all data.

Other Thoughts: Crucial has very good customer service and has replaced both drives. However the hassle of reinstalling my system twice has convinced me this technology is not yet reliable. I'm going back to WD Black for my laptops.

2 out of 5 eggsNot trouble-free

Pros: Small, light, energy efficient, extremely fast, quiet, shock resistant, cheaper than the competition

Cons: I installed the drive last Thursday, and after I did a clean install of Windows 8. Everything went well. Today is Monday. When I turned the laptop on, the system didn't recognize the drive. I tried many options. I am now trying to "power cycle" the drive - which is what Crucial recommends. This is apparently a one hour process. I hope it works and that I don't have to do it again.

Other Thoughts: I should have probably saved up a little more and purchased a more reliable brand. My laptop only has SATA II, though, so I figured I didn't need the extra performance benefits of a more expensive drive. Oh, well. I guess you get what you pay for.

5 out of 5 eggsStellar

Pros: It's like buying a new laptop
Capacity
Performance
Better battery life
My computer is now silent
Boots up in under 30 seconds
Firmware update works on Mac hardware, so no need to remove the drive.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: This is the best upgrade I've ever made to any computer I've owned in the last ~20 years. I bought this for a 2010 MacBook Pro. Despite being limited to SATA II (3.0 Gbps) by the motherboard, the drive performs very well. It was a very easy upgrade, and I've had no trouble with the drive; a Hitachi 7200 RPM drive in the same machine caused hangs on wake from sleep, likely due to firmware incompatibility with the computer, no such problems from the Crucial m4.

4 out of 5 eggsGood drive, but failed after 2 weeks.

Pros: It was fast, good capacity for SSD. Didn't really expect to have any issues with it, it worked fine for a while, then suddenly died after 2 weeks of use. No boot device found. Checked BIOS, nothing detected under SATA. Tried different ports, tried different computers, nothing, it's just gone.

Cons: died after 2 weeks

Other Thoughts: actually, probably more like after 10 days.

5 out of 5 eggsBest purchase I ever made for Macbook Pro 2012

Pros: Super fast
Speeds up everything
Boot up times drastically improved

Cons: If anything, just that it is expensive, however not in comparison to other SSDs.

Other Thoughts: I will report back if anything regarding life of drive comes up.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Deal

Pros: Fast drive and fits in small hard drive space of ultra books. Dramatic results compared to the manufacturers supplied 5400 rpm drive.

Cons: Had a terrifying experience on initial power up after cloning original drive. Had to remove the battery and the power adapter and wait a short while before power up the ultra book or the bios failed to detect drive. Solid ever since

Other Thoughts: 10 second boot with XP on intel i5. Worth the price!!!

1 out of 5 eggsFailed after 4 Months

Pros: Worked fine for four months.

Cons: Crucial's customer service is sun par. If you call support, expect to wait upwards of 30 minutes before speaking to a person. This was my first Crucial product and I am very dissapointed. Their RMA is standard- they send a refurbished drive out in place of the defective drive. They charged my credit card for the cross shipping and will credit back when they get the drive.
