1 out of 5 eggsBSOD

This review is from: Crucial Ballistix Elite 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Desktop Memory Model BLE2KIT8G3D1869DE1TX0

Pros: Seems pretty fast...when it didn't BSOD me.

Cons: BSOD 4-6 times daily. Usually happened when computer was sitting idle. Now before you shake your head at me because you think I do not know how to properly seat memory, I ran memtest, got errors, reseated, ran memtest again, got errors.

I do admit that I am, by no means, someone who could pass as a stunt double on Big Bang Theory, but I can install memory and basic trouble shoot just fine. And if the test results say fail after switch-o-change-o, then I say the RAM is effed. I hate it when (stuff) don't work.

Other Thoughts: Going to return, already ordered new RAM.

1 out of 5 eggsCrucial Ballistix Elite 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Desktop Memory Model BLE2KIT8G3D1869DE1TX0

This review is from: Crucial Ballistix Elite 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Desktop Memory Model BLE2KIT8G3D1869DE1TX0

Pros: I have used crucial memory for the past 10 years exclusively, without an issue. I ordered this memory for a new build and was impressed by the heat spreaders and the temperature monitoring software available from crucial.com. The price of this memory was mid-range.

Cons: This ram was installed into a Asus Maximus VII Hero (new). The first stick lasted an hour. The second stick lasted three days. (errors 32-35, 2B-2F). The worst part about it was I threw away the packaging. New Egg wont take it back without the packaging.

Other Thoughts: I ordered Corsair memory from another company. I am unlikely to order from New Egg again.

4 out of 5 eggsSo far so good.

This review is from: Crucial Ballistix Elite 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Desktop Memory Model BLE2KIT8G3D1869DE1TX0

Pros: Had this memory for about a week in an ASRock Z97 Extreme6 board and an 4790k processor. So far it has been running without problems at the rated speed. I have not attempted to, nor do I plan to, try overclocking it. I have run a bunch of burn-in utilities which I always try to set for maximum memory usage and it's been holding up fine.

Cons: Expensive

Other Thoughts: These memory prices need to come down! Memory speed makes very little difference in gaming and most application for that matter.

5 out of 5 eggswhere all others have failed

This review is from: Crucial Ballistix Elite 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Desktop Memory Model BLE2KIT8G3D1869DE1TX0

Pros: These sticks up and ran at 1866 9 9 9 24 1T in my super -finicky i72700K / ASUS P8Z77-V PRO motherboard. WEI memory index 7.9. Not much else to say. Just fantastic rock-solid performance. Temperature monitoring software super-handy...have yet to see the kit get over 38*C. Default warning condition is default set to 60*C.

Cons: a bit tall, but, -boy the heat spreaders are effective.

Other Thoughts: I fully expected to have to loosen some of the timings to get them to go but they never gave me any reason to. This older Sandy-Bridge CPU definitely heats up more running the memory overclock, even though all other settings are stock (with the exception LLC. LLC for RAM is set to 'Medium.')

5 out of 5 eggsNice RAM

This review is from: Crucial Ballistix Elite 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Desktop Memory Model BLE2KIT8G3D1869DE1TX0

Pros: Pretty tight timings for the price at 1866, other memory in this price range either requires more voltage or has looser timings to reach these speeds. It actually works at the advertised speeds, too, which is great.

Cons: For some reason my Gryphon Z78 board didn't detect it at 1866, instead it kept configuring it to 1333 via XMP. The timings and everything else were correct, just the speed wasn't. I manually reset it to 1866 and it's been running fine ever since. Might be an issue with the board BIOS.

The heatsinks are tall and, honestly, kinda sharp. Be aware of this when ordering, I can see it possibly causing trouble with large air cooled heatsinks.

4 out of 5 eggsReliable...Eventually

This review is from: Crucial Ballistix Elite 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Desktop Memory Model BLE2KIT8G3D1869DE1TX0

Pros: Very reliable after initial hiccup (see below) and I am very pleased with the performance of the kit in my rig. I am very rough on my system and its ability to hold up is admirable.

Cons: Okay, this is a bit of a gripe with the manufacturer, but bear with me. The original set I got failed within three months. the RMA was smooth, though it did leave me without a computer for a while since i had to wait for the replacement.

I was nor surprised at this procedure as the kit from my last system also had to be traded out. So all I can say is that your first set will probably fail, but the replacement will be rock solid.

Other Thoughts: I still buy from Crucial, but just accept that RMAs are part of the process of getting memory at this point.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank for the feedback and comments. We're glad the replacement set is working well for you.

For future reference, we do offer cross shipment but it does require a CC# secured, this option can help reduce your down time.

Thanks again for using Crucial!

5 out of 5 eggsMemory of Memory!

This review is from: Crucial Ballistix Elite 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Desktop Memory Model BLE2KIT8G3D1869DE1TX0

Pros: Very well built! Sturdy heat separators.

Just a quality product that makes my machine fly!

Cons: None that I am aware of.

Other Thoughts: This is the 1 out of 2 16GB desktop memory kits and have performed admirably.

1 out of 5 eggsOn second thought

This review is from: Crucial Ballistix Elite 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Desktop Memory Model BLE2KIT8G3D1869DE1TX0

Pros: None

Cons: After the first failed pair, I managed to go through not 1 but 2 pairs from a local store. The last pair I tried ALMOST worked. ALMOST as in this time, only 1 of the modules had between 3 and 5 errors per entire pass.
This was a far cry from the non-functioning pair tested right before it, but a regular result of more than 0 errors is still a fail in RAM.

Other Thoughts: Gave Crucial a good chance, and I am thoroughly NOT impressed.

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsMemtest fail

This review is from: Crucial Ballistix Elite 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Desktop Memory Model BLE2KIT8G3D1869DE1TX0

Pros: Looked good on paper, got the pair on sale for a decent price.

Cons: Rarely purchased Crucial, and now I have more reason to avoid - Already showing 201 errors 43% through the FIRST pass of Memtest @ correct stock settings.

Other Thoughts: The holidays show now mercy with RAM.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

Please contact our support online or at 1-800-336-8896 and we'll help with configuration, troubleshooting or RMA if necessary. We offer a limited lifetime warranty on our DRAM products and your satisfaction is important to us.
