1 out of 5 eggsGarbage

Pros: It worked well when it worked.

Cons: It died exactly 10 days after the 1 year warranty had expired. I called tech support and NO RMA because it was outside of warrenty.

Other Thoughts: Never going to get anything from a brand I am not familiar with again.

4 out of 5 eggsMy first SSD

Pros: Faster start up time than a hard drive. Quiet operation with no moving parts. Easy to install on my Dell XPS M1530. I used Acronis True Image to transfer the image from my hard drive to my USB hard drive. Ghost 14 probably will do the same. Then I installed this SSD and restored the entire hard drive back to the SSD. Relatively large capacity but anything smaller than this probably isn't enough storage space. If you have an entire Adobe Suite installed it can easily consume up to 70GB.

Cons: EXPENSIVE!! At $2 per GB this SSD costs about 10 times as much as a 500GB 2.5" hard drive. You may wish to buy the 120GB version to keep costs down and use an external USB hard drive A 120GB SSD costs about half of a 250GB.

Other Thoughts: You may wish to continue using a hard drive until SSD prices fall. I've heard that an SSD is around 40% faster than a hard drive so it's not that much faster. In this economy you may have to think twice about spending 10 times more for SSD storage versus a hard drive. Dell offers a 250GB SSD as an option to their XPS M1530 for $325 so if you want one it's better to buy it with the laptop. If you already have a laptop then it's cheaper to buy this SSD from Newegg than buying another laptop.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat item

Pros: Works great. I am currently using it as a backup for my desktop. The drive runs cool, and read and write are very good. I bought this drive to replace a failing drive in my wife's desktop, but her computer is so old it wouldn't recognize the drive. This not the fault of Filemate, but due to the computers age. Since I bought this drive I have bought my wife a new desktop, what can I say it's her birthday. Would recommend this drive.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: I will be buying 7 more of these and I will be replacing the drives in my desktop. Replacing my standard SATA drives with these Solid State Drives should keep my system going for years due to the unlikeliness of a hard drive failure happening. My system is a Dell Workstation 670 with 2 3.8 gig Xeon processors, 6 gig of ram which can be updated to 16 gig of ram. Currently 3 500 gig drives in raid 0. 256 gig video card, and more than I can remember at this present time. Let's just say it's a screaming demon.

5 out of 5 eggsThumbs up

Pros: This disk is nice, It will be a great improvement on any plated hdd. And MLC solid state disks don't have the problem with transfer speeds as the first gen solid state drives did. I am getting 123.5mb/s transfer speeds with a 0.4ms seek time. My old drive was getting 49.2mb/s transfer speed and 22.5ms seek time. So I experienced a ENORMOUS improvement.

Cons: Price, though it is 49 cents a gb so its not really that bad compared to other solid state hd.

Other Thoughts: My desktop with 4 hdd in raid 0 gets a transfer speed of 124.2mb/s and a seek speed of 14.8ms so a single solid state disk is much faster than 4 hard drives in raid 0. The only advantage of having 4 hard drives (which are about the same price) is a greater storage capacity, about double the solid state disk.

For anyone who is going to build a pc I strongly recommend this disk. It is comparable transfer speeds to my raid and the seek time is just amazing. The only thing is the price, though to me it is well worth it.
