5 out of 5 eggsRunning Solid

Pros: Crazy Fast, OS boots in 12 to 30 seconds, all applications load in a snap.

Cons: I run low on memory pretty quickly on this SSD, have to manage my disc space pretty often.

2 out of 5 eggsNice drive, but died & poor Intel return process

Pros: Drive is fast.

Cons: Drive failed ~2mo after purchase. Windows detected drive was about to fail. I contacted Intel to start the warranty process. Intel customer support is below average for the industry. First, they required that the defective drive be returned before they would ship out a replacement. This prevents the customer from cloning the failing drive to the new drive. The customer is then forced to waste many hours to reinstall of OS & programs. Second, they required the customer to pay shipping for the return. Both of these issues demonstrate very poor customer support in addressing a defective Intel product.

Intel didn't dispute that its drive was defective, it simply failed to use a return process that put the customer's interests first.

The customary practice in these matters for other major companies is to first ship out the replacement & to supply return shipping.

5 out of 5 eggsMost noticeable upgrade I have ever made.

Pros: This SSD is by far the most noticeable upgrade I have ever made to a machine. Intel provides excellent documentation, a three year warranty, and their SSD toolbox software for checking and optimizing settings in windows is both functional and simple to use.

Quantitative observations, such as boot times, transfer speeds, and latency do not do this SSD justice. Everything just _feels_ smoother about my laptop's operation. It has made a good laptop a stellar laptop.

Cons: I don't think I'll ever be able to justify using a magnetic hard drive as a boot drive ever again.

Other Thoughts: Using this SSD in a Thinkpad T410, which is now absolutely silent when the fan isn't running.

Neat side note: I can use my laptop as a jukebox in my car while driving! No spinning hdd platters, no head crashes!

According to Intel, this SSD fails safe when the flash cells reach their read/write limit. I find this comforting, as I should be able to read all the data on the drive even when it's reached it's end of life.

5 out of 5 eggsWorth it

Pros: Fast, big enough for OS and runtime files

Cons: Not big enough for data, notice small performance decrease with large transfers

Other Thoughts: First of all, it's definitely worth it to have an SSD as a main drive. I notice speed where it counts (loading programs, booting an OS, etc...) I think that I notice a slight performance decrease on large file transfers, including some program installations. However this isn't critical stuff for what I'm using the computer for. Anything large I have on a separate HDD. If you know what you are getting this is probably the best upgrade you can get.

5 out of 5 eggsStrong SSD

Pros: Very fast drive. Tested with ATTO disk benchmark, and runs at the advertised speeds, if not slightly faster on the write speeds. This is after owning the drive since August 2010: still hitting the advertised speeds. I replaced a 5400 rpm drive in a Zotac Mag and it runs like a dream now. Currently running Windows 7 pro. Boots much faster, programs launch nearly instantly. I was having to wait 10-15 seconds for a program to open: not anymore! Very impressed with the performance of this drive.

Cons: You might be able to find faster SSD's for less money. The price per gigabyte is still high, but that's true for the SSD industry right now. The prices will likely keep coming down over time.

Other Thoughts: The drive came with an adapter, which can be used with the included mounting screws or in a tool-free case. I did a lot of research before buying this drive...I tended to avoid SSD's with reviews of people getting hosed with rebate issues or frequent RMA's or DOA's. I'm glad I went with this drive: nothing but smooth sailing and consistent performance.

5 out of 5 eggsWonderful Upgrade

Pros: It's fast. The specs are no lie. My best improvements are on application load times vs. boot-up time. There's only minimal improvement there. My windows experience index jumped from like 5.9 to 7.4 on the HDD.

Cons: It's pricey and I can only use it for really the OS and applications/software. But I knew of these limitations ahead of time, of course. Still very happy with the purchase.

Other Thoughts: Upgraded from a WD Black 7200 RPM 32MB cache 750GB drive that served as an OS and storage drive on my desktop. The improvements are on application load times mostly -- office documents open quicker as well as firefox (especially since I tend to frequently resume session with ~50-70 tabs open -- it'll pop open within a few seconds -- vs. a 30-45 seconds!)

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great SSD. Unfortunately I wasn't able to run TRIM on a Dual SSD Raid 0 setup. I'm still waiting for Intel or somebody to release trim for raid.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: would buy again (when prices drop)

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome limited space though...

Pros: I swapped from a Raid 0 setup to this, It was a noticeable difference Games load up significantly faster. Windows also loads and reacts faster.

Cons: 80 gigs sounds relatively roomy but considering games are on average larger than 10 gigs I only am able to have two to three modern games.
