1 out of 5 eggsNot compatible with some Macs

Pros: Cheap, Probably fast when it works.

Cons: Got a 240 gig SSD on a promo code deal, and was excited to see how well this drive with some of the highest spec'd speeds I had seen for an SSD would work in my MacBook. I expected it to be a bit slower than advertised since my laptop only has a SATA II interface, capable of maximum theoretical speeds of 300MB/sec.

Imagine my severe disappointment when after installing it I saw speeds of only about 110MB/sec write and 130MB/sec read using Blackmagic Disk Speed test.

Further investigation revealed that the drive was connecting to my macbook at only SATA 1 speeds of 1.5gbits/sec (150MB/sec).

I went to the SanDisk website and found an updated firmware of version R211, which I downloaded and used to update the firmware of the drive. This had no effect of improving the link speed. I initiated a chat with tech support, who informed me that they have seen an issue with the NVidia MCP79 chipset of SATA controllers found in MacBooks and MacBook Pros from 2008 through 2009. On these computers the drive always negotiates a link speed lower than capable. So while my computer was capable of a link speed of 3gbits/sec, the SSD forces a linkspeed of 1.5gbits/sec.

The tech I chatted with said it wasn't the company's fault, but the fault of the NVidia chipset.

I returned the drive to Newegg, and now, just 1 day later, I find that SanDisk just today released a new firmware update R211m for mac computers only with the NVidia chipset, which sets the drive to default to SATA II with this chipset. Sheer incompetence on the part of SanDisk tech support to blame my computer for the problem, the day before they release a firmware update for their drives to fix the issue.

As a result I will NEVER buy another sandisk product.

Also, I had taken the SanDisk drive out and tested the same MacBook with a Samsung SSD, which linked flawlessly at 3gbits/sec, and ran twice as fast as the SanDisk. I went to the Apple Store and spoke to a genius, who informed me that Samsung is a technology partner with Apple, and as a result, they do more extensive design and testing to be compatible with Apple devices.

Other Thoughts: SanDisk could have salvaged this purchase for me, if not for the mis-directed tech support.

2 out of 5 eggsNewegg is slipping...big time

Pros: Product is great can't complain there, it's Newegg as a whole I have issue with.

Cons: So since when do you people save on file old credit cards and old addresses for accounts you've updated or flat out deleted?? Because I ordered this product and somehow miraculously it got shipped to a previous address....that was 4 years old! Needless to say this package was being shipped entirely to a different state! So when I called Newegg, who are usually renowned for their customer service. I was pretty much told you're **** out of luck, not sure how that happened, contact the shipper and good luck. Really? Thats the best customer service you guys can come up with? I've spent thousands of dollars and hours on this site. Maybe no longer? Figure it out Neweggg. Cuz other vendors are starting to look pretty competitive.

5 out of 5 eggsStill going strong after 6 months

Pros: I am running this as my desktop boot drive in an Intel i7 system. Have never had a bit of trouble with it. Never had to update the firmware. You already know how fast SSDs are so I won't try to impress you with that. :)

Cons: none, I can't even complain about price since I got it at a ridiculously low price during the Newegg Black Friday sale last Fall.

Other Thoughts: Windows 7
Gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD3

Waiting for prices on 512 GB SSDs to come down so I can use one as my data drive.

1 out of 5 eggsGreat until it died

Pros: Made my laptop performed much better--boot time was very impressive; Linux boots virtually instantly and Windows very fast.

Cons: Part of it went bad after 8 months of use. Every time I try to access part of the drive in my Windows partition, my laptop fails. I cannot even open a partition editor without triggering a freeze. Scans on the SSD do the same - HDD Regenerator freezes as soon as it finds the first bad sector.

Other Thoughts: The part of the drive running Linux is still functional, but I can't expand that section since I can't use a partition editor of any kind.

5 out of 5 eggsUPDATE REVIEW FROM 7/26/12

Pros: Excellent speed when paired with the GIGABYTE GA-Z77X-UP5 TH motherboard. Never had a problem after the latest firmware update. So fast that I bought another one today for $159.00 with the daily Supersonic Supers Saver deals.

Cons: Last 1 egg review was before the crucial firmware update which has solved all speed negotiated problems when paired with a mid 2010 MacBook Pro.

Other Thoughts: Please make sure to monitor Newegg's Promotional deals for maximum savings.

5 out of 5 eggsIt's like if I changed my laptop.

Pros: Perfectly fits in my Thinkpad T61 bought in 2008.
Works great with a SATA I interface.

Cons: nope

Other Thoughts: I changed my genuine hard drive using Windows 7 with this SanDisk SSD 240 GB using Windows 8. I am very surprised how this SSD speeds up my Thinkpad T61 even if this computer has only a SATA I interface. The Windows hard drive index climbed to 7.2.

I think I am still good for 5 more years equipped like this.

5 out of 5 eggsIncredible speed--I'm blown away

Pros: I've got SSDs in my desktop computers, but I was waiting on upgrading my laptop until prices for larger SSDs came down. Even coming from SATA2 SSDs (which should give you ~85% of the speed gains compared to this), this drive impressed me. It flew through the Windows reinstall and updates. When installing downloaded games it felt like every time I clicked "Next" my machine was ready again before my finger came back up. With an i5 CPU it gets the highest 7.9 rating in Windows Experience Index, and I can feel it.

Cons: This drive is 9mm, so just barely fit in my laptop drive bay (and the side screws didn't line up because of the height, but it's securely enough in place just from the SATA connectors). If you're upgrading a newer laptop or ultrabook, look for a 7mm height drive.

I also had to update the firmware on this, but it was very quick and easy using the SanDisk utility. A huge con for previous buyers was the extremely long wait for SanDisk to release firmware bug fixes. That's no longer an issue with this drive as it was eventually fixed, but it would make me wary of getting a newly released SanDisk SSD.

5 out of 5 eggs240G Drive, SSD

Pros: This SSD drive is a very good buy. It has speeded up my
laptop, core I5, with 16 gig ram very well. Not only applications, but internet as well. Cloned the old drive without problem, installed, and everything was faster then before. I also noticed that my laptop runs cooler now. The extension in life is work the price, besides the increase in speed.

Cons: If I find any, I'll post. First 240 Gig SSD at $100 will sell like hot cakes. I paid $169 and it was worth it.

Other Thoughts: Watch Newegg specials, I'm sure they will run this for a lower price. Glad I bought now though.
