5 out of 5 eggswarranty is above all else

This review is from: SanDisk Extreme II SDSSDXP-240G-G25 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: This is just an update review for Sandisk SSD's. I received one for review last year from Newegg and it died on me. I was pleasantly surprised when Sandisk warranted this for me and paid postage both ways. Remember I did not pay for this it was sent to me to review over a year ago.

Cons: None, well it did fail but in this case not really a con

Other Thoughts: Sandisk get 5 eggs for their commitment to customer satisfaction all 5 years of it

5 out of 5 eggsFast SSD

This review is from: SanDisk Extreme II SDSSDXP-240G-G25 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Very fast, it beat down my friend's Plextor M5P Extreme 256 GB.

On Crystal Disk Mark, it gets 525 MB/s vs 498 on the Plextor M5P Extreme.

It really beats down my current SSD drive, the Plextor M2P 256 GB, which gets around 340MB/s.

Great value for the price

Cons: There's no 2.5" to 3.5" bracket.

Other Thoughts: It's depressing how I paid $420 for my Plextor M2P 256 GB drive in 2011, and now for less than half the price, this drive is not only faster, but far more consistent. Technology is depressing sometimes.

I just got this drive today, so I can't comment on lifespan. It had better last more than 2 years though.

4 out of 5 eggsNot as Fast as O_Z

This review is from: SanDisk Extreme II SDSSDXP-240G-G25 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: The read & write speeds are way up there. Easy to install. Good support website.

Cons: Slower start than my last SSD. Almost twice as long. Random reads are slower as well. Had I known I would have chosen another brand. Instead of a step forward, it is a step back speed-wise.

Other Thoughts: This will do and is merely OK. There are better speedsters out there when it comes to start times and SSDs.

5 out of 5 eggsQuite pleased with this

This review is from: SanDisk Extreme II SDSSDXP-240G-G25 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Speed; Long advertised MTBF; Easy to install, using BlackArmor Backup 2011.

Cons: Expensive if not on sale

Other Thoughts: I replaced WD20EARX, a 2 Tb drive with this. After satisfactory replacement with SSD in my other computer, I decided to move the pictures, videos and music into my 3 Tb drive D, so that only a little over 100 Gb is left in drive C to fit into the new 240 Gb drive. I was happy to do that because the intel i7 with ASUS motherboard runs smoothly and more slick, not to mention the speed of booting up and loading applications. I did not time it, but it feels like it only takes 10 seconds to load it instead of over 1 minute before. The windows assessment raised the score of disk drive from 5.8 to 8.1 now. The random access, using WSAT to check was a high 8.2. I suppose this drive is every bit as it advertised. If the drive lasts at least its 5 year warranty period, I will be extremely satisfied.

This review is from: SanDisk Extreme II SDSSDXP-240G-G25 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Cons: not sure why but my windows rating dropped .2 points from 6.8 to 6.6 was using a 64gb nova ssd before

Other Thoughts: I wouldn't recommend you buy this thinking its going to be any faster than other ssds unless you get it on sale

5 out of 5 eggsInsanity

This review is from: SanDisk Extreme II SDSSDXP-240G-G25 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: I wasn't expecting it to perform so well. I tested it as soon as I loaded windows to it and got the drivers, and made sure the firmware was up to date. I got a 522MB/s for sequential reads and a 495MB/s on sequential write. I've had it for a month, and I have messed around with my boot settings and what not as I normally do to get the most speed out of my system and it boots in around 10 seconds. This is also coming from a 2.5" 7200rpm 500GB drive, so there is that, but this SSD is prime, get this or something similar, I wouldn't have gotten anything else after seeing the speeds.

Cons: The installation was odd, I have a Dell XPS 17 L702X LT. I was replacing a 500GB 2.5" drive, and when I was screwing the mounting brackets I had to actually bend the bracket to screw it in well. It wasn't an issue so much as it was odd that it wouldn't mount properly. If the bracket was designed differently it wouldn't have affected it, since a metal bar crossed the top of the drive near the SATA ports, but all is well, so no complaints from me in reality.

Other Thoughts: GET IT!

1 out of 5 eggsDidn't work for me

This review is from: SanDisk Extreme II SDSSDXP-240G-G25 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Fast when it is recognized by bios. Newegg took care of the problem! Without Newegg return try at your own risk with this firmware.....

Cons: Installed in one year old Acer Aspire One, and (latest) Bios will not recognize drive. Every cold boot there is no drive recognized. After entering, leaving bios, a warm reboot recognizes. Sandisk tech support pretty hopeless. After a lot of info passed to them, they said, probably incompatible. So sorry......My conclusion is that it is likely a SSD firmware issue (R1311), but they would not admit, just offered to replace, with the comment that replacement probably would not solve problem. No offer to resolve the firmware issue. Fortunately Newegg worked the problem, otherwise it would be a silicon paperweight.

The SSD was tested in a desktop and was recognized, although there are numerous web reports that Sandisk Extreme (not Extreme 2) was installed successfully in the Aspire One model AO722 netbook.

Other Thoughts: Sandisk products are generally great, but their tech support in this case was a waste of time (with over 7 hours invested on my part)...with no real solutions offered. Their final comment "We did try to provide you the best possible resolution at the moment. But since it is not up to your expectation, we are moving ahead with cancelling the RMA for you are choosing to return the SSD to the place of purchase. Please contact us in case of any further assistance sought."

What kind of help is that after stating replacement probably would not solve the issue? - How about looking into the firmware?

3 out of 5 eggsSo much for my boot drive...

This review is from: SanDisk Extreme II SDSSDXP-240G-G25 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Easy install, Fast performance

Cons: Reliability?

Other Thoughts: My unit ran great for the first week before read and write errors started. First time I have ever seen the blue screen of death with Win 7. I had to re-format and build up the system again. So far it's holding.
