5 out of 5 eggsStill Going Strong!

This review is from: PNY XLR8 SSD9SC120GMDF-RB 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Stable performance for over a year now. PC is on 24/7 for home network access.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: Bought this on sale over a year ago and it's doing a good job in an always-on PC.

Read speeds are very good for the price along with the usual super-fast access times that make SSDs lightning quick compared to a spinning hard drive.

120GB capacity SSD has, of course, fewer flash memory chips than a larger capacity drive. As a result, Write speeds are somewhat limited compared to larger capacity models. But, you won't be disappointed if you're on a budget and need a good Windows boot drive!

3 out of 5 eggsWorked well for about 10 months.

This review is from: PNY XLR8 SSD9SC120GMDF-RB 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Speeds were close to what I had seen in reviews, even this modest SSD was an incredible upgrade for my OS and most used programs because of the low seek times of SSDs

Cons: After about 10 months of usage speed has slowed to a crawl. I have done a secure erase and re-install of windows 7 on the drive which made things usable again but the speeds on benchmarks were far below what they used to be and after a month the same issues are presenting themselves. It's time for a replacement.

Other Thoughts: The drive performed well for about 10 months, and now it needs replaced.

1 out of 5 eggsPNY SSD Failure

This review is from: PNY XLR8 SSD9SC120GMDF-RB 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Fast.

Cons: Caused random BSOD and system shutdown when installed but not in use. After OS was installed and disk was assigned C:, sometimes it would boot, other times it would fail and shutdown without completing boot. Finally, it would not complete boot.

5 out of 5 eggsAffordable and Fast

This review is from: PNY XLR8 SSD9SC120GMDF-RB 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: + At the time I bought this SSD, it was available for $50
+ Fast read/write speeds
+ Doesn't make a single sound due to no moving parts of course
+ The SSD stays at a chilly 26C
+ It comes with an LED to tell you when the SSD is being accessed

Cons: - Only 120GB but it's not really a con since bigger SSD sizes are available for purchase

Other Thoughts: I use this SSD as a boot drive for my Windows 8.1 x64 OS and it performs flawlessly. I can cold boot from BIOS to Desktop in seconds and navigating the OS is very responsive and snappy. I also have Dota 2 and World of Warcraft installed on this SSD and the load times in both of those games are tremendously cut down thanks to this SSD, especially in WoW where I can load a heavily populated city in less than a few seconds on my SSD, when compared to my old HDD where it would take 45 seconds to a full minute to load the same area. It's like a night and day difference going from an HDD to an SSD.

1 out of 5 eggsDead In 5 Months Or Less

This review is from: PNY XLR8 SSD9SC120GMDF-RB 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: I ordered 4 of these in August 2014 at my job. Initially, these worked well, seemed fast enough, etc.

Cons: Like I said, I ordered 4 of these in August 2014. As of January 20, 2015, they are ALL DEAD. 3 of them were dead by early December 2014. They can't even be detected.

That's the last time I buy an SSD cheap.

Other Thoughts: When I buy a SSD, I expect it to last at least 6 months, if not a year or more. At this point, I will never buy another PNY brand SSD again. That was my company's money I wasted, and hours of enduser downtime.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat budget SSD

This review is from: PNY XLR8 SSD9SC120GMDF-RB 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Looks fancy, box was fancy, it's a freaking SSD, it has a red light to alert you when you don't plug something in.

Cons: It's only 120GB, and that bothers me. Storage needs to be an exponential multiple of 2. It needs to be 128GB, otherwise it drives me nuts.

Other Thoughts: PNY has always been a great company, and I'm glad to see them still making good products.

4 out of 5 eggswas good when it lasted

This review is from: PNY XLR8 SSD9SC120GMDF-RB 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: it was pretty darn fast to begin with bit it just degraded over time

Cons: It caught on fire pretty much. Read 90c and then it turned off and wouldn't come back on.
I failed a class due to this.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid

This review is from: PNY XLR8 SSD9SC120GMDF-RB 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Does what it's suppose to do

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I've had zero issues with this being my OS drive. It's fast and makes no noise. That's all I wanted.

2 out of 5 eggsGreat Price - Performance Degradation is AWFUL

This review is from: PNY XLR8 SSD9SC120GMDF-RB 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: The price was right, I bought 2 of them. Initially they were fast and offered a decent performance boost to both of the systems they were installed in.

Cons: After about 4 months of use, they don't perform any better than the 7200RPM HDDs I have in my computers. Read/Write times have fallen off significantly and are no longer considered an acceptable SSD for either of my laptops. I have since replaced these SSDs with the factory installed HDDs in both computers.

Other Thoughts: Newegg had them on sale and I thought "YES!! Now is the time to upgrade!" The price was right, but I guess you get what you pay for because after less than a year, they don't perform any better than a regular old HDD and in many cases, they're a little slower than that.

5 out of 5 eggsPNY XLR8 120 GB

This review is from: PNY XLR8 SSD9SC120GMDF-RB 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Works good and cheap speed upgrade. Just using for Windows 8.1 and programs. Have Office 2010, picasa, chrome and all the usual programs installed. Used 33 GB and have 79 GB available. Will never use 79 GB for more programs and have plenty of room for keeping documents, etc on ssd. Have pictures and videos on separate internal drive. Best thing you can do to increase speed on PC with ample ram.

Cons: Would be nice to see storage capacity go up and price go down.

Other Thoughts: Was easy to install with Windows 8.1 and noticed immediate improvement in speed vs 7200 drive.
