1 out of 5 eggsWorst Technical Support Ever!

This review is from: PNY Optima SSD7SC240GOPT-RB 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Small form factor, low power consumption

Cons: Wost technical support EVER!

Other Thoughts: I've been doing IT for over 30 years, and I have to say that my experience with PNY Technical support is the worst I have ever experienced in my 30 years.

First of all, the device went bad in less than one year, then after two attempts, they could not provide the correct replacement. And beyond that, their Tech Support management refused to compensate me for my lost time in having to box up multiple devices, and time spent dealing with them.

So, I've been without a hard drive for over a month, and the final solution, buy something from Samsung or Intel I'm afraid.

5 out of 5 eggsSo far so good..

This review is from: PNY Optima SSD7SC240GOPT-RB 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: *Speed: Crystal Disk Mark is reading 516MB/s and 305MB/s sequential write over 2GB.
*Price: I paid $90 + tax. Even at $110, it is about the cheapest NEW Sata 3 SSD you can get @ <$0.50
*The power on count started at 0, which is good to see (it not being a refurb sold as new).

Cons: *Some people report this drive can fail suddenly, but that can happen with any drive. So like normal, I will make efforts to backup to my server a few times a week - but most of my work is saved to multiple locations anyway..

Other Thoughts: *Back when SSD's were just coming under $1 per GB, I remember getting one of MY first ones. Since then, I do not think I can go without one on my PC's.
*This went into my current laptop, so that is fine my write is not 500MB/s+, it is the read that I simply wanted (so Windows can boot quickly when I come in late to my classes..).

1 out of 5 eggsDied in 6 months

This review is from: PNY Optima SSD7SC240GOPT-RB 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Price, speed.

Cons: Reliability

Other Thoughts: I bought this drive to replace an old 250GB hard drive. The drive worked for 6 months then started booting Windows 7 in 10 minutes. I was concerned there was a failure so I checked the SMART data which reported no problems. The next time I tried to boot it would not boot at all. I tried to image the drive and it failed at 50%. I tried other computers and USB/SATA adapters in an attempt to get the data off but nothing worked; the drive would either not recognize, not initialize, or not read/write. Eventually I was able to get one USB3/SATA adapter to work and got the entire drive imaged in 6 hours. I must noted that during the imaging process it had 3 read errors which I did a "retry" on and they eventually went through. This is the first SSD I've purchased that has failed but it concerns me more that the drive's own SMART data does not recognize that the drive is failing. I will be RMA'ing being that this drive is still in the warranty window.

On another note I have never seen a failing SSD have this much problems with data read before. When an SSD fails usually it gets stuck in read-only and you can at least easily pull all the data off of it.

5 out of 5 eggsI own 2

This review is from: PNY Optima SSD7SC240GOPT-RB 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Small
Light
Simple
Works

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I liked the first one I bought so much that I bought another, and will buy at least 2 more soon. Inexpensive and reliable. I haven't compared different models and brands, if you want that go to YouTube. But I know these work for me so I buy them.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Drive

This review is from: PNY Optima SSD7SC240GOPT-RB 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Low price, great storage size and decent speed.

Cons: NONE!

Other Thoughts: Read some reviews where people are upset about it not coming with a SATA cable or software for the drive. If you want a cable that bad order one when the drive is ordered or just run to a local store to pick one up. Oh no it didn't come with any software for me to manage it? The listing never said it did so I wouldn't expect that either. Great deal on a good drive. Unless you end up being one of the unlucky ones that gets it dead on arrival there's really no complaint needed about this drive.
