1 out of 5 eggsDied after 1 year of use.

This review is from: PNY Optima SSD7SC240GOPT-RB 2.5" 240GB SATA III Synchronous-Mode Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: It's an ssd. It's faster than the hard drive it replaced (until it died).

Cons: Died after 1 year of use.

Other Thoughts: Refused an RMA on the "3 year warranty" because it was not registered in the first 90 days! What a waste of money! I will never buy another PNY product again for myself or my clients.

3 out of 5 eggsAn okay drive, with a bit of an attitude

This review is from: PNY Optima SSD7SC240GOPT-RB 2.5" 240GB SATA III Synchronous-Mode Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Migrated my system from a 128GB SanDisk SSD, and noticed a marginal performance increase. It works for the most part, but I may have gotten a drive with an attitude problem.

Cons: Has the habit of making bad disk writes every so often, which causes issue with shutting down and booting. This issue occurred across Win7, Win8.1, and now Win10 in both SATA and AHCI modes. Maybe a QA oversight, but not really a total deal breaker.

Other Thoughts: For what you can get now a days, especially from companies like Mushkin, ADATA and SanDisk, I can't recommend this model SSD. I have owned products from PNY before this (USB Flash drive, DDR Memory), and was underwhelmed with every product. If you can find this for less than $90, then it may be worth it IMHO.

1 out of 5 eggsBottom of the barrel junk

This review is from: PNY Optima SSD7SC240GOPT-RB 2.5" 240GB SATA III Synchronous-Mode Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: NONE, stay away from all PNY products

Cons: After 2 months I noticed a slow down on my HP Z800 workstation. I purchased a Samsung 850 Pro just in case this died, migrated my data and the performance on the Samsung is amazing. Never had issues with Samsung or Intel, tried the cheaper bottom of the barrel products from a vendor like PNY and they make junk. Poor tech support, no firmware updates and no tools with this drive. No migration tools either.

Other Thoughts: I would never recommend any PNY SSD's to anyone, except people I do not like. LOL I would not purchase it again, I would buy a Samsung or Intel. I would change my product review if they replace my product with one that works. LOL

2 out of 5 eggsDied after a year

This review is from: PNY Optima SSD7SC240GOPT-RB 2.5" 240GB SATA III Synchronous-Mode Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: A big step up from a HDD- especially helpful with system and game load times. Speeds up photo editing if you're dealing with high-res RAW and JPEG files.

Cons: It was a good drive for the most part but it crashed right towards the end of one year- which is quite inconvenient to say the least. I submitted an RMA to PNY via their website and they did send a replacement once I sent the drive back, the slightly newer CS1111, which I have not tried out yet. I was really disappointed that PNY would not ship to a military post office box, as I am currently stationed overseas, and they wouldn't budge to make an exception. I also did not realize that if you do not register the drive within 30 days of purchase you only get a one year warranty and not the three year warranty that is advertised. This is why I give it two stars: the drive failed within a year, I don't rate the 3-year warranty that was advertised, and PNY customer service would not ship to my PO box. I would have given one star, but they did replace the drive in the end.

Other Thoughts: I've heard Samsung makes the best SSDs, so I will probably spend a bit more and buy a Samsung next time for hopefully a reliability, speed, and customer service advantage. Also, 240gb is pretty small- about only big enough for the system and only a few other apps. You will need additional HDDs for more storage space and to backup this drive.

1 out of 5 eggsDied after 1 year, horrible support

This review is from: PNY Optima SSD7SC240GOPT-RB 2.5" 240GB SATA III Synchronous-Mode Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Worked just fine for about 1 year, although slower then other drives

Cons: The SSD causes windows to freeze when plugged into a SATA port. effectively making the drive useless for anything other then an external SSD via usb. Tested on multiple known good units.

I was denied my RMA request because I did not register the SSD with PNY as some hidden file of theirs states. When trying to call attention to the issue I was then blocked on social media from commenting. Some of the worst customer service I have ever seen in this industry.

Other Thoughts: I will never buy a PNY product again and will be sure to tell everyone about their misconduct.

This review is from: PNY Optima SSD7SC240GOPT-RB 2.5" 240GB SATA III Synchronous-Mode Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Cons: Actually only has 1 year warranty

Other Thoughts: Buy your SSD from a company that stands behind their products

5 out of 5 eggsNo complaints

This review is from: PNY Optima SSD7SC240GOPT-RB 2.5" 240GB SATA III Synchronous-Mode Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: It works as advertised.

No issues installing, and still working without any problems or complaints after a year of use.

Cons: I didn't get a bigger one.

Other Thoughts: If you don't have an SSD, get one. They are cheap enough and make enough of an impact that there's no reason not to have one in 2015.

I definitely wouldn't consider anything in the 120gb size range - the price difference between those and the 240gb range is negligible and 120gb doesn't leave much room to grow.

1 out of 5 eggsnever had a chance to use it...

This review is from: PNY Optima SSD7SC240GOPT-RB 2.5" 240GB SATA III Synchronous-Mode Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: cheap

Cons: Received a defective drive right off the bat and payed the shipping to return/replace it. According to PNY's RMA status page, they received it over two months ago, yet the RMA is still "in process." I would love to write a review about this SSD's performance, but that's difficult without a functioning product...

Other Thoughts: I suppose this review is more related to PNY and not the SSD itself. I plan to update if the situation is resolved, but unless you have a fantastic purchasing history with PNY, my advice is to stay away.

1 out of 5 eggsShort lived

This review is from: PNY Optima SSD7SC240GOPT-RB 2.5" 240GB SATA III Synchronous-Mode Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Very Fast and Cheap

Cons: Short life, Drive died in less than 1 year. Very hard to tell what is going on when the drive actually starts to go. First my system would hang for short periods of time, then it became longer and longer. Then anytime a download or install was happening the system would lock up. Performance monitor would show that the drive would have response time up to 3k ms (My 7200 rpm Western Digital has a response time of 1-100 ms depending on load.) Then the drive started to disapear from the system and multiple reboots would have to occure before it was detected again.

Other Thoughts: I know this was a cheap drive but expected performance to be slower than the average not for the drive to die within a year of purchase.

Currently trying to contact PNY for an RMA but no luck so far.
