5 out of 5 eggsSSD Ownage

This review is from: PNY Optima SSD7SC240GOPT-RB 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: I know this isn't the speediest, most advanced SSD on the market, but really, who cares when I can open programs in the blink of an eye and for the price I paid for this, opening in half the blink of an eye wouldn't be worth the money. :)

Cons: None!

Other Thoughts: I accidentally mailed this 2 days after the postmark was due for the rebate. (I thought I had 4 more days). Turns out, PNY accepted the rebate anyway. Made this drive super cheap! :)

1 out of 5 eggsGood while it worked

This review is from: PNY Optima SSD7SC240GOPT-RB 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Worked well as a drive used only for games.

Cons: This drive did not last long. It failed exactly 6 months, to the day of the purchase date. The drive is no longer detected by my PC, doesn't show up in the BIOS, and when I moved it to another SATA port on my Gigabyte X58A-UD3R, my Intel SSD suddenly was undetected. Unplugging the PNY Optima 240 GB drive fixed that problem, and I was able to boot up again.

Other Thoughts: I took a chance with this drive because at the time of purchase, reviews were OK and the price was right. After reading the reviews that are now out, I see many other users complaining of failures after ~6 months and RMA'ing several drives.

In the future I will likely stick with Intel and Samsung SSDs.

3 out of 5 eggsFantastic SSD, just an an unlucky customer

This review is from: PNY Optima SSD7SC240GOPT-RB 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: When it worked it worked great; fast speeds, ultra fast boot time, and overall noticeable performance increases. Also very economical SSD.

Cons: I give this 3 eggs because I am currently on my 3rd one in the past 4 months. I have sent in my 4th RMA a few minutes before writing this review as well. It seems as though maybe I'm just getting unlucky with every new drive they send me because I know I am doing nothing wrong my system specs are compatible with this hardware and these SSDs are just dying out on me for no apparent reason. PNY warranty is too replace product for 6 months I believe but this time I am pursing a full refund which I am sure I'm gonna get shot down and succumb to another faulty drive.

Other Thoughts: Don't let my experience deter you from buying this drive as it's a great drive and other seems to being have no issues. I guess I am just unlucky.

Also in case anyone is wondering these are my specs:
CPU: i5 4690k
GPU: XFX R9 280x
MOBO: Asrock killer z97
PSU: Corsair cx600m
MEM: 8gb gskill ripjaw x series

1 out of 5 eggsWaste of time

This review is from: PNY Optima SSD7SC240GOPT-RB 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: It was cheap for an SSD, but expensive when used as a paperweight.

Cons: Bios doesn't recognize the drive 2/3 of the time

Computer boots slower than with a traditional HDD

Computer runs slower within windows compared to HDD

No return/refund option. Thanks to the mail in rebate my only option is RMA for another low quality prone to fail SSD.

Other Thoughts: I took a chance on this drive even though it had quite a few negative reviews. I should have listened to the negative reviews and spent a little more on a better drive. Unfortunately there is no way for me to get a refund on this, so I'm out the money I spent anyway. Worse than the money lost is the time wasted trying to get this drive working. I was able to install windows to it, but the computer fails to boot 2/3 the time with the bios not recognizing that there is a hard drive installed. On top of that, when I am able to get the drive to boot and run windows, it's slower than my old 1TB drive both in start up time and in operations within windows. Unfortunately getting a refund is not an option and RMA does not sound appealing as I'll be provided with another one of these unreliable drives to waste even more of my time on.

5 out of 5 eggsFirst SSD

This review is from: PNY Optima SSD7SC240GOPT-RB 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Cheap for the amount of storage, no errors, easy install.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: First SSD install. I installed Windows 8.1 at the same time (Went from Win 7 Ultimate). I play a lot of Battlefield 3/4 and games just seem to play smoother. Boot times are very quick. Wish I would have done it earlier.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Value - No issues for me

This review is from: PNY Optima SSD7SC240GOPT-RB 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: I bought 2 of these with the rebate deal.
I read the reviews below and figured its NewEgg so if I get a bad one I know they'll take care of me. Mine both have the Silicon Motion controller.
So far no issues. Mine are in Raid0 and running everyday. I've had no issues at all.
I benched them individually before the Raid setup and they are not the fastest SSDs but fast enough. In Raid of course they are lightning fast benching at 793Read/689write in ATTO. My Mushkin SSDs in raid are hitting over 1000 both Read and write in ATTO but they are not $79 for 240G either.

Cons: Faster SSDs are out there.

5 out of 5 eggsFast

This review is from: PNY Optima SSD7SC240GOPT-RB 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: System recognized right away and installed windows 7 with no problems. The windows 7 WEI gives a max rating of 7.9, didn't run any offical benchmarks but from the instant the bios screen appears its roughly 15-17 seconds to get to a full usable desktop. This includes bitdefender anti-virus and AMD's CCC. May not technically be Samsung fast but honestly i don't care at all.

Cons: No extra software included. Didn't need a drive transfer program but it would have been nice. Maybe toss in a sata cable. Again i didn't need one but for a $99 it would suck to find out you don't have a cable to use.

Other Thoughts: Will update in future if drive experiences any troubles or has a shorter than expected life span but early impressions are very good. As of now highly recommended.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing product

This review is from: PNY Optima SSD7SC240GOPT-RB 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Tested 3 of these so far and each of them has tested extremely well. Much better than many recent reviews state.
500+ read 300+ write consistently.
very reliable.
cheap.

good luck finding another SSD that is so cheap and still reliable, PNY is doing an amazing job.

Cons: As others stated PNY participated in a bit of tricky marketing but a consumer should expect this of any company out to make a profit. At least the product works and is reliable, can't ask for much else.

Other Thoughts: Perfect upgrade for a system on the cheap, you won't notice a difference between this and a SSD that costs twice as much unless you actively look for it (benchmarking).

1 out of 5 eggsPNY Manuf. Defect, do not buy

This review is from: PNY Optima SSD7SC240GOPT-RB 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Nice drive, think and light

Cons: Failed after 10 hours; not worth the money, i spend almost 10 hours setting up the OS install, and it failed afterward. If I were to pay myself at minimum wage, the amount of time i spent into it after the failure is a complete waste of money. I felt lucky that it did not fail on me from 10hrs to 3 years, even if i was covered under manufacturer warranty. High failure rate is the reason these drives are so cheap. PNY wanted to push these drives out to customer ** and then back to maf RMA; instead of recalling them.
