1 out of 5 eggsTotal Junk

Pros: Booted Windows 7 VERY fast.

Cons: Installed Windows 7. Installed updates and rebooted. Never came back. Won't format, reload Windows or anything. It sat new on my parts shelf waiting for a good use. I got one day out of it and only that long because I installed the Windows 7 updates the next day.

Other Thoughts: DO NOT buy ANYTHING from RiData or Ritek (same outfit). There stuff is total JUNK.

1 out of 5 eggsDied the First Day

Pros: Loaded Windows 7 and it ran very fast. Boot time was exceptional.

Cons: Installed Windows then numerous Windows updates and it never would come back up after rebooting. Won't boot, won't let me format and won't let me reinstall. RiData web site is worthless. No tools, no patches, no nothing. No more RiData products for me.

Other Thoughts: Bought this drive new in Sept. 2009. Sat on shelf until now when I had a great use for it. So I guess I am out of luck. And, a hundred bucks.

2 out of 5 eggsRiDATA SSD

Pros: Price. (Purchased on sale for $99.99) Customer service. Loaded Windows 7 fast.

Cons: I had this drive for three months before installing in my ASUS laptop. I installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit and updated my drivers. I had started my computer maybe three times (from installing updates) before the drive died. My computer would not even recognize that there was a drive installed, unless I put in another HDD, which works fine.

Other Thoughts: Since I had the driver too long before installing it, I was out of the RMA window for newegg. Fortunately, it has a 2 year manufacturer warranty. They quickly responded to my RMA request and are RMAing the drive. (Reason for extra egg). I doubt I will be refunded for shipping but at least I'll have a "working" drive.

1 out of 5 eggsVery Poor SSD!

Pros: NONE

Cons: Purchased this SSD 6/10/2010 to use in my laptop. It worked great for 2-3 months then crash. I'm glad I run scheduled backups so I didn't lose much data. So far I've RMA'd this twice. If I were Newegg, I'd pull this from inventory.

Other Thoughts: When it goes, there is no warning and it's always 1st boot of the day. Cannot format, plug in externally to my server and retrieve files. I would not reccommend this to a friend nor, under any circumstances, in any client's machine.

5 out of 5 eggsVery good

Pros: Very quick as boot drive - loads Windows 7 64bit in about 10 seconds or less.

Cons: Costly compared to standard 7200RPM HHDs.
Limited space makes it viable mostly as boot drive on a Windows 7 system.

Other Thoughts: Page/Swap file had to be adjusted to not take all the drive space, other than that, very happy with this product.

1 out of 5 eggs2 month wonder!

Pros: Extremely fast when it works. I'm on my 2nd RMA.

Cons: Drive works like a charm my 2nd RMA in the begining then craps out around the first month or 2. Like I said, I'm on my 2nd RMA

Other Thoughts: I wish they would publish a firmware flash, but still you don't know when it will become a brick.

1 out of 5 eggsdrive has died

Pros: Fast, was able to install windows 7 in about 15 minutes, give or take.

Cons: none until lately, drive died.

Other Thoughts: Haven't used computer very often, mostly off. After relocating computer, it worked for a little while, and now won't boot. tried reinstalling windows7, hangs at the arrow prior to the installation launch. removed drive, installation loads fine, put drive back in, problem returns. tried hooking drive to my laptop, windows doesn't recognize it, even to say that it needs formatted.

1 out of 5 eggsBad

Pros: Fast boot time with Windows 7

Cons: Pauses regularly with clicking sounds and freezes sometimes for 15-30 seconds during the boot and when opening websites or applications...

Other Thoughts: I ran my computer with a regular hard drive before taking the dive into SSD and this was not a good choice to start with, although at the time I purchased it, the price was right... Technical support is somewhat lacking and if you want an RMA, you are looking at 2wks turnaround time before your computer will back up and running... Unless you want to fall back on an older drive until you receive the replacement or repaired drive... IMHO - Do not use RiDATA!!! If you do, good luck!

2 out of 5 eggsNeeds regular maintenance

Pros: Quiet, good price, Very good read speed when new, or de-fragmented.

Cons: After about10 to 15 hours of usage, the drive slows down to a crawl. Disk usage goes to 100% and the cursor freezes when writing to the disk. I don't have any SSD utilities so my fix is to defrag when it starts to slow down. This works great for another 10 to 15 hours.

Other Thoughts: I got this drive because it was not expensive, and my first SSD. I wanted to learn about SSD's. I know defrag uses up the number of SSD writes but other wise this drive would be useless.
So regular de-fragmenting is a requirement in order for this drive to function. When De-fragmented this drive is a screamer. This drive has a 1st gen jmicron controller and does not have any "trim" ability. Which I believe is the core problem with the slowdown. Ridata has no firmware update.

3 out of 5 eggsNot what I had hoped for

Pros: Small

Cons: Would occasionally freeze or pause for a few seconds. Did not benchmark, but did not feel an increase in performance.

Other Thoughts: Thought it odd that it is formatted in FAT32, online recommendations said not to reformat to NTFS. First experience with SSD, not impressed.
