DESCRIPTION

ssd340

Performance Upgrade

Transcend's SSD340 is built using high-quality synchronous multi-level cell (MLC) NAND flash memory for enduring performance and features the next-generation SATA III 6Gb/s interface, DDR3 DRAM cache, and a powerful controller. As a result, the SSD340 makes everyday computing tasks, such as booting up your computer, launching applications, and transferring data, quicker than ever before.

In order to allow straightforward installation in notebook computers, mainstream PCs, and today’s advanced Ultrabooks, the SSD340 features the industry-standard 2.5" form factor. Yet, it measures just 7mm in height and only weighs a mere 52g. Moreover, the SSD340 offers cool, silent operation and excellent resistance to shock and vibration, further proving that it’s the ultimate upgrade to your standard rotating hard drive.

ssd340

Low Power, Fast Response

The SSD340 maximizes notebook battery life when not in use thanks to full support of SATA Device Sleep Mode (DevSleep). DevSleep ultra low power state conserves more battery power than current power saving features such as standby mode by shutting down the SATA interface completely. And with a remarkable response time of less than 20 milliseconds, you can start working on your computer again almost instantly.

ssd340

Built-In Reliability

To keep your Transcend SSD running fast, clean, and error-free, the advanced SSD Scope software application is available to download and work with the SSD340. SSD Scope allows you to monitor SSD340 health status with S.M.A.R.T. technology and enable the TRIM command in the operating system to help maintain optimum write speeds, all from a single user-friendly tool

For operating systems that do not support the TRIM command, the SSD340 offers an aggressive garbage collection and recycling system. To further increase the lifespan of the SSD340, built-in wear-leveling and Error Correction Code (ECC) ensure continued reliable data transfer. SSD Scope also includes a convenient System Clone utility to help make upgrading your existing computer to the performance boost of an SSD340 quick and easy.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat LITTLE SSD

Pros: Typical SSD, much faster than an HDD

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Be mindful that 128gb will fill quickly. I'm upgrading to a larger SSD. This one will be used for small media projects in the future.

5 out of 5 eggsTranscend SSD 2.5" 128GB SATA Internal Great Buy

Pros: On Sale :D
SSD
Good reviews on Newegg
Fast n free ship
No complaints

Cons: none so far

Other Thoughts: I bought this to use as my C: drive in a new custom build. I hadn't even seen one in person, so I was pretty awed by how tiny and light it is. Plugged it in and off we go..I'm a graphic designer (as well as pc builder lol) and I have lots and lots of art programs, font managers, web browsers and more. There's plenty of room after all that for lots more programs so for now this suits my needs.

2 out of 5 eggsThis drive failed me

Pros: It was very fast and worked well for a few months. Through August and most of September I had no problems.

Cons: Then I started getting error messages about Windows being corrupted. Next thing I know the drive is completely wiped. I reinstall Windows on it, woks fine for a day or two, then has registry issues. Wiped it myself this time and reinstalled again. In just a few days it would stick itself in a boot loop, continually trying to start windows and continually failing. I'm just lucky I bought a warranty.

Other Thoughts: Did all sorts of self-help stuff first to identify, then fix the problem. This included testing the RAM and my numerous reinstalls. Possible that this drive just doesn't play nice with WIndows 10 for some reason.

5 out of 5 eggsSSD For the Win!

Pros: The item will easily boost your system boot up and response time. The included 3.5" bracket is awesome for the price of the unit. My PC boot up time is now around 30 seconds or less, down from 1-2 minutes with a conventional HDD. For the cost of the unit, the included accessories, and the overall boost in performance it's a great buy!

Cons: The 3.5" adapter didn't work well with the hard drive sled system in my PC case. The case (MFG'd by NZXT) included tray pins don't fit in the pre-drilled screw holes on the bracket. This was easily fixed by drilling them a bit larger. It's not a total Con, but should be known if you have a HDD slide system, like my case.

Other Thoughts: If you can afford it, it's worth going to a larger capacity. You'll find a windows PC (64 bit, Win 7) will only allow for 119 GB to 120 GB of usable space due to formatting. SSD pricing per gigabyte is getting closer to reasonable. I'm never going back to conventional HDD for OS installations.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat SSD

Pros: Works great after almost 9 months of daily usage.

Windows 10 boots in about 3sec. Everything is almost instant. I can write to USB drives @ 50MB/sec even with batches of smaller files.

Runs cool even under load. Sips power, the power usage of my machine went down by 5W under load when I moved to this SSD.
Idle wattage down by 2W.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: It has Cache memory (RAM) which not all SSD's have. its extremely fast especially on commonly used files (or if you keep opening the same thing again and again).

5 out of 5 eggsGREAT SSD

Pros: Wrote the 1st review of this product back in Feb 2014, and almost a year later, it performs beautifully.

Cons: I have been having issues with the Scope software that Transcend provides on its website. So far, have been able to update the firware only once as a result, but the SSD runs perfectly none-the-less.

Other Thoughts: Having own and run over 10 different SSDs in my home environment, I always come back to this stable and reliable SSD. It is now the primary SSD in my main laptop again, and I doubt I will switch it out except for testing other SSDs. Top notch product!

5 out of 5 eggsInstantaneous Gaming

Pros: Caveat: This is my first ssd and I do not track benchmarks.
With that said I can tell you I am starkly aware of the difference between mechanical disc and ssd. I used to have to wait for new maps to load in BL2, Just Cause 2, Skyrim etc but now load screens very rarely appear. The OS behaves like a psychic freak with applications and tasks happening instantaneously. Also sleep and wake happen in a fraction of a second.

Cons: Man for the price and space I couldn't possibly list a con.

Other Thoughts: Right now I have the dreaded Win8.1 video and graphic software and about 5 awesome games on it with room to spare. I still have a 1tb mech for the db stuff though. Oh and I'm not using a video card.
