Perfect w/ MSI P55M-GD45 mobo
- Pros: Just built my 2nd computer: Win7x64, Core i5-750 chip, MSI P55M-GD45 mobo, and this 4GB A-Data RAM. System booted on first try (only installed one DIMM at first to be safe, installed Win7, then popped in the 2nd DIMM).
CPU-Z lists these as PC3-10700 with the slightest O/C running at 9-9-9-24 and 1.5V as advertised w/o me ever entering the BIOS. Not too shabby.
Windows 7 Experience Index score for this RAM was a 7.5, which was my highest score; higher even than my Core i5 chip (7.3) and my 9800GT video card (6.8).
- Cons: Dunno... not 4x2GB or 2x4GB for price of 1x1GB maybe???
- Other Thoughts: After reading about some of the issues folks have had with 1156 mobos and DDR3 RAM I was a little worried, but these sticks are amazing.
My Antec 300 Illusion case and MSI mobo are loaded up with Blue LEDs. For some reason, I just think these pink RAM sticks look spectacular in it. Love 'em.
Things to consider.
- Pros: So far, good memory at a decent price.
- Cons: Not necessarily a 'con' but these memory sticks had me going for a few days. The sticks were detected as 1333 speed memory, but the auto setting on the mother board did not seem to properly set up the operating parameters for them. The sticks are specified as 1.5 V memory. It took several days of testing, but it required a 1.6 V memory setting done manually in the BIOS to obtain correct operation of the memory.
I was considering returning these as 'defective', but the manufacturers do considerable testing to verify products before packaging so I had a hard time believing that these were defective. Given the speeds and frequencies that these devices operate at, it doesn't take much of a board layout 'error' or stray capacitance from any source to cause timing issues or rise / fall time problems.
See other thoughts below.
- Other Thoughts: The sticks are specd. as 1.5V memory. I don't know how accurate the voltage setting parameters are on the mother board, which is a Giga Byte EP35C-DS3R. The initial install was an auto configure and everything seemed to work fine on initial boot up. I use the Windows 'Sleep Mode' frequently and this is where the problem started. When the PC was put in to hibernate mode it would not recover from that mode. Manually setting the memory speed to 1066 corrected that issue, but this was supposed to be 1333 speed memory. After trying many different configurations of memory settings and creating a multitude of other problems, I tried raising the memory voltage by 0.1 volt to 1.6V. That has seemed to 'cure' the hibernate issues but begs the question of, "Is this really 1.5V memory, or are there mother board issues 'corrected' by raising the voltage 6-7%?"
Oddly, PC worked fine at the default install parameters if you only did a cold boot and shut down with no sleep mode.
Outstanding value RAM
- Pros: This is my third set of A-DATA RAM that I've ordered from Newegg. The first 2 sets were DDR2 PC400 (still going strong). Not one DOA or other issue to speak of. I simply plug the modules in and boot up. A-DATA will continue to get my business as they've proven time and again to be both reliable and affordable. Gotta love those signature A-DATA heatspreaders too :)
- Cons: The latencies aren't impressive but DDR3 is still a work in progress. Probably not a great candidate for overclocking but who would expect them to be at this price? The packaging, while nice and secure, is indeed a pain to open. Almost borderline dangerous, watch out for those sharp plastic edges when cutting.
- Other Thoughts: I now have 8 gigs of A-DATA DDR3 in my system and have no worries of running out of memory. Vista, Aero, browser w/multiple tabs, games..........I can run it all simultaneously with no problems. Installation was truly plug and play. Another rock solid product courtesy of A-DATA. Combined with the excellent service of Newegg you just couldn't ask for a better combination. A hearty thanks to both companies for superior products and customer service.
