Equipped with the latest SandForce SF-1222 processor, ADATA's S599 Solid State Drive delivers remarkable performance. Sporting a maximum of 280 MB/s read speed and 270 MB/s write speed (ATTO Disk Benchmark) and 50,000 IOPS (IOmeter test), it is even faster than the Intel G2 SSD, an achievement unparalleled by traditional hard drives. The S599 SSD is highly reliable and durable, delivers significantly higher performance, saves power, and stays cool. Booting up platforms that run Windows 7 happens in less than 20 seconds, a 40% performance improvement compared to traditional hard drives. It’s the perfect device for corporate-level computing applications as well as power users who seek super speed.

  • newegg SSD Storage Technology Unlike traditional hard disk drives, SSDs have no moving parts, resulting in a quiet, cool, highly reliable storage solution that also offers faster application loading and system responsiveness. And for laptops and netbooks, the lower power needs of SSDs translate to extended battery life. Higher performance with more durability means you can be truly mobile with confidence.
  • newegg A Major Upgrade in Performance Equipped with the latest SandForce SF-1222 processor, ADATA's S599 Solid State Drive delivers remarkable performance. It offers a 280 MB/s read speed and 270 MB/s write speed at maximum. The S599 SSD achieved up to 50,000 IOPS in IOmeter tests, a performance unrivaled by similar products.
  • newegg Solid performance with ECC function, static wear-leveling & Trim support The S599 SSD features a built-in ECC function that supports error reporting, automatic error detection and correction. Integrity and safety of user data stored on the S599 SSD is excellent. The S599's static wear-leveling technology can average out the write cycles on each cell over time, thereby eliminating frequent writes to the same flash cell and extending its serviceable lifespan. The S599 SSD also supports the Trim command featured in Windows 7, enhancing the SSD write performance.
  • newegg Intelligent Thermal Watchdog Keeps you cool Other than remarkable performance, ADATA S599 SSD consumes much less energy and stays cooler in operation than conventional hard drives. Its built-in temperature sensor IC automatically reports real-time temperature to the system monitor program, allowing you to keep an eye on the status. The system stability is in your control all the time.
  • newegg Flexible use - 2.5" to 3.5" Adapter Included Coming in a 2.5-inch hard drive form factor for notebook/netbook use, the A-DATA S599 Solid State Drive also includes a 2.5" to 3.5" bracket for compatibility with desktop PCs.

1 out of 5 eggsFAST -- 1 - 2 min on - Dead

Pros: Worked for a while

Cons: Installed in a computer that was started for one day each month.
Worked fine for a year. Then we where lucky to get the drive to work for 1 to 2 minutes and then freeze.
Now it is dead, with less than 100 hours on it.

Other Thoughts: Newer purchase ADATA SSD again.

1 out of 5 eggsDead.

Pros: Worked for a while being slow.

Cons: Caused problems with windows system files within the first few months and then would only work for only 10 minutes each time you boot into the computer.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent!

Pros: My first SSD, performance is amazing compared to HDDs I've used in the past.

Cons: None that I can tell.

Other Thoughts: Some issues with creating custom partitions in a Linux Mint 12 install, but that's not Adata's fault in the least, and is easy enough to fix.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: I bought this almost a year ago back when SSDs were still kind of a new tech. This thing worked great and still does to this day as an OS drive.

Cons: Capacity is low of course, but if you're only going to put the OS and maybe a couple of larger programs on it, it works great.

Other Thoughts: make sure to use with the SATA controller set to AHCI mode to get it to function as fast as possible

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent Performance - Horrible Company

Pros: These drives offer very, very good performance for the price. They've also gotten fairly good reviews from the likes of Maximum PC (if you don't subscribe, you should)

Cons: Their web site for warranty and customer support. Their RMA process. See comments below in Other Thoughts.

Other Thoughts: Click the link on their "Customer Service Excellence Survey", and you'll get a 404 Error, Web Page Cannot be Found. Yup, par for the course.

Another funny thing is that the serial number of the disk drive is on the box. The number etched into the side of the actual drive is not the serial number. Hmmm, I wonder what the meeting on that decision was like. Can you think of any other Disk Drive manufacturer that doesn't put a serial number on the actual Disk Drive. For that matter, can you think of any manufacturer for ANYTHING that favors putting a serial number on the box, rather than the product itself. Oh, yeah, maybe something like Fish Sticks...

I will say that the customer support person I talked to was very nice, and very patient. I was very nice to him too, as I know it wasn't his fault that the company he works for has such a horrible RMA and support system. So remember; Don't be mean to the person your talking to. It isn't their fault...

2 out of 5 eggsDon't focus on the dollar amount

Pros: It's a SSD. Reads and writes are off the charts but I never noticed a significant boot time difference between this and my 10000 RPM raptor.

Cons: Like previous owners stated, my mobo will simply choose not to see it on boot-ups. Not only that but coming out of Sleeps can be touchy. I've had multiple BSODs because this thing doesn't want to play nice when waking up. Lastly, you'll fill it up faster than you think. Its been over a year and a half since I bought it and despite my best efforts to only use it for Windows (I keep all my other programs on a TB HDD) it's filled up to the point that I can't use it anymore. I would not recommend it or any of ADATAs products.

5 out of 5 eggsMy First SSD!

Pros: My First SSD! I have tried it in all of my boxes and it's pretty quick. Even put it in my Untangle UTM box for a month.

Cons: 40GB doesn't go very far after Win 7 Ultimate install

2 out of 5 eggsVery fast... when it works

Pros: Very fast when it works. Around 200 read and 200 write based on ATTO large files. Upgraded from a 5400rpm laptop drive and the difference is night and day- browser opens instantly, and even microsoft word is instant (that used to take at least 5-8 seconds!)

Cons: Disappears from bios EVERY reboot. Sometimes it takes 3 reboots to get it recognized, and sometimes it takes 10. My record is 24 reboots until my computer could actually boot. I've updated the firmware to the most recent version and it has not helped one bit.

Other Thoughts: Even with the horrendous reboot issue, I'm still probably going to keep it. It is installed in a laptop so I can't always use "sleep", but as long as I use "sleep" as much as possible instead of a full power-down, the problem doesn't bother me too much. I've contacted support, but based on what I'm seeing on the message boards, this is a design flaw rather than a bad unit.

ADATA should be ashamed of themselves for putting out this product. Or maybe sandforce. I don't know who, but somebody should be ashamed.

1 out of 5 eggsNo answer from support

Pros: Very fast.

Cons: It died after 3 months. No reply from support.

Other Thoughts: This is an update from my previous review (unfortunately I cannot edit reviews)
I have been waiting for 4 days from an answer from support. I already sent 2 emails. Apparently they saw my previous review there because they posted a comment, however they haven't contacted me. Very disappointed with this company.
