3 out of 5 eggsYou get what you pay for

This review is from: ADATA Premier Pro SP900 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) ASP900S3-128GM-C

Pros: -Inexpensive
-true capacity
-silent
-much better seek time than platter

Cons: -speed advertised are artificial benchmark achievable only with highly compressible data ( all 0 or all 1 )
-sequential write for uncompressible data barely above platter hdd ( 139 for this ssd vs 102 for a WD Black 1tb )

Other Thoughts: Don't we love artificial benchmark.

A year ago I bought this drive and actually took for granted the speed advertised was real. But only recently when a friend of mine bought a Samsung 850 pro that I noticed a massive speed difference loading game compared to him. So I benchmarked my Adata drive, being a year old it was performing quite bad ( 250/80 ). I contacted Adata they exchanged the drive with no issue.

The brand new drive came in. Newer version also, so I was expecting that it would perform as advertised. Well end up that with this drive you'll reach very close to advertised speed only with artificial benchmark.

I use Crystal Disk Mark for testing. In sequential with random data I get 364/139. It's only if I benchmark with all 0 or all 1 that I'll go up to 478/492.

Bottom line is : If you're looking for a silent, cheap ssd that will be a blazing improvment in seek performance ( 4k ) over a platter hdd then this is the drive for you. If you're looking for the fastest performance possible take a look at OCZ or Samsung.

1 out of 5 eggsIt never worked. Not once.

This review is from: ADATA Premier Pro SP900 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) ASP900S3-128GM-C

Pros: Since I got a BAD product, I can not give it any "PRO's."

Cons: I had this drive in it's package, in a temp controlled home, in a dry place for over six months. It didn't move at all. I unwrapped it to put in a new machine. No go. Changed SATA cables. No. Power? No. Let's try a different machine. Hook it up here and here and.... no. Unwrap some new SATA cables. No. Inspect for anomalies. No. Put back in box. Try again a few weeks later because things do tend to get fixed that way. No. Called a Shamen. Nothing. Put it in the oven. Nope. Freezer. Nada. Swimming pool. Negative. Gas tank of an ATV. No luck. Police car trunk for five days. No dice. Dipped it in latex paint. Nothing. Rubbed a frog on it. No. covered it in peanut butter and gave it to a baby. Got kicked out of a child birthday party. Used it as the "ball" in Kickball. Total disappointment.

Other Thoughts: Open anything you buy the second it arrives and put it through forty seven tests. Then do it again. If it still works, it was meant to be yours.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks good

This review is from: ADATA Premier Pro SP900 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) ASP900S3-128GM-C

Pros: Fast boot time into my XP PRO
A really big plus, You never need to defrag your C Drive again. ( Never Defrag SSD - HDrive. Never !! )
No moving parts.
A nice jump in PC speed, without buying a new PC.

Cons: No Cons.

Other Thoughts: Does not even get warm. The future of HD's is here.
Wish it was 2 TB in size for under $100.
Maybe someday.
Never Defrag SSD - HDrive. Never.
A good defrag program will warn you.

1 out of 5 eggsNever worked

This review is from: ADATA Premier Pro SP900 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) ASP900S3-128GM-C

Pros: I can't give this unit any pros. I suppose it arrived on time.

Cons: I made two mistakes. One- not paying for buyer protection. Two, not immediately opening this SSD and at least testing it. I kept it in the box for months as I was compiling parts for a new build and did not try it until months after the purchase. Subsequently, it was DOA and I didn't even know it. It was kept in a dry, climate controlled atmosphere the entire time. When I did finally put it in a new build, it was DEAD. It never fired up one time. It was never recognized, not once. I tried it in not one, not two, not three but FOUR different machines running various OS': Win 7, Win 8, Linux Mint and even with an adapter off of a Raspberry Pi. Nothing. Paperweight. Defective. I was Out of Luck because I did not buy protection and the standard 30 day return window had long passed. I took a chance with a brand I had no experience with for a good deal and so I guess this is what I get. Lesson: OPEN YOUR STUFF AND TEST IT TEST IT TEST IT the day you get it.

Other Thoughts: I wish I could go back in time and test this the day I got it.. I figured new in the box would be just fine as long as I kept it dry and in a temperate room. It never worked and I didn't open it until months after I got it. So I get no room for exchange or refund. Sucks for me.

5 out of 5 eggsSSD Speed

This review is from: ADATA Premier Pro SP900 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) ASP900S3-128GM-C

Pros: cost, case, adapter for 3.5", speed

Cons: n/a

Other Thoughts: I was a little leery of buying ADATA as they get mixed reviews. This is only the second one I have tried. The other one being an ADATA that was re-branded to a store brand name. I must say that both of them have surpassed expectations. In fact on Windows 7 Pro this thing gets a rating of 7.9 which is the highest rating Windows 7 Pro can give. I have had other popular brands not even achieve 7.9. So far it is working great, and I have no qualms with this at all. For the price point I may start buying many of these for future builds.
