1 out of 5 eggsRMA is horrible

Pros: Bought 2 and 1 drive failed after 1 year. No longer able to detect.

Cons: RMA is slow to non existant and I don't even know if they will ever return my RMA drive.

Other Thoughts: Sent RMA drive which would not detect any longer back to them 3 weeks ago!!! Asked them last week what the status was and they said they would send a replacement next day. 4 days later I am still waiting for an email with tracking to just verify they are actually doing something. I am sending daily emails now. I mean how hard is it to determine if the drive is bad and either send a replacement or send mine back. Warranty is still valid for another year but by the time, if ever, they return mine the warranty will expire. I am never going to buy another product from this company just for the very fact that this is how they warranty their products. This is my first post ever on newegg. I'm sure a reply from them saying to contact them to resolve the issue will get posted like the others. Unfortunately I already have. Note to all other techies don't buy from this company unless you like months for RMAs. I am not a patriot.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I'm sorry you are having trouble receiving your RMA. There's always a possibility that some emails are getting blocked from our domain. If for whatever reason your emails may not be going through please don't hesitate to shoot an email to support@patriotmem.com or you can visit our support forums and post a thread in our RMA section. Please be sure to leave your RMA number and I will personally look into it.

Sincere Regards,
Patriot Memory Support Team

1 out of 5 eggsAWFUL

Pros: Decent when working.

Cons: Completely failed in 4 days. What a piece of garbage.

Other Thoughts: Come on. When I spend money I expect to get something out of it.

Manufacturer Response:

Greetings,

I might suggest the RMA process on those drives that have failed. They are covered under a limited 2 year warranty so we would be more than happy to work with you to get them replaced so you can have your drives up and running as quickly as possible.

Please contact the support department to begin the RMA process:
support@patriotmem.com

Hopefully we can get this taken care of for you relatively quickly.

Thank you for choosing Patriot Memory!

Regards,
Patriot Memory Support Team

2 out of 5 eggsDeath Comes Early

Pros: It was fast, and it worked well. I used it only as a boot drive for my Win OS.

Cons: At the 1yr, 4mo mark I began having system failures without having done anything to make it unstable. SMART shows this drive is now critically failing all tests. It has no moving parts, presumably, and lives in a well-ventilated case with a low "actual usage time".

They're RMAing it, but still - I've never had a drive fail this quickly.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We are sorry that you had problems with your drive. For inquiries on your rma status please don't hesitate to contact rma@patriotmem.com.

Regards,
Patriot Memory Support Team

5 out of 5 eggsAs expected, Snappy and Fast.

Pros: Using the drive as a scratch disk (Not the OS drive) to organize files into folders for burning backup CDs, the drive is supper fast at one-at-a-time transfers. The saving grace is the snappiness of the drive. That's with Indexing service, time-stamps, etc disabled.

Cons: The Achilles heel of the drive is definitely saving something and reading something else at the same time. Everything is put on hold for the write operation to complete. Watch a movie (350MB file) from the drive, copy small (1kb) text files to the drive at the same time, and the video playback stutters each time a file is copied. I presume this behavior is typical of most Flash based Solid State Drives, as my other slower mechanical drives do not do this.

Other Thoughts: I have no idea how the "put everything on hold, I'm saving something" aspect of the drive will effect games, or even an entire Operating System on laptops. The drive is outstanding for read intensive database or web-site server Data-Drive applications that rarely if ever write to the drive.
- again, this drive is very snappy, and the video playback stuttering while copying files is barely noticeable.

1 out of 5 eggsBawww

Pros: Small, fast, shock-resistant, no moving parts, the typical advantages of a SSD, unless...

Cons: ...it dies on you. Like mine did just an hour ago. Less than one year of ownership! And even though the drive was in a well-cooled environment (LOTS of air flow), even though I made adjustments to Windows (disabling super prefetch(?), moving pagefile to another drive, etc) to reduce drive writes and extend drive life, the drive is seemingly dead. I'd steer clear of this drive, and possibly even this company.

Other Thoughts: Started up an Ubuntu live disc with only the drive connected, and I had TONS of errors being spit at me, so I suspected either the drive was epicly failing, or the mobo controller was going. So I swapped it out with another drive. Ubuntu loaded just fine. Switched to different cables connected to different onboard SATA ports, same thing. Fortunately I was just using this drive as a Windows 7 OS boot drive so there's little data loss here, but this is still a HUGE pita from a drive owned for less than a year that I took every precaution to extend the life of.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Wheres the nearest vet?
BECAUSE THESE PUPPIES ARE SICK!!!!!

RAID 0 i say! That is all.

Cons: System/Chassis fans needs to be replaced! I want my system quieter than a ninja!
GB PER $$

Other Thoughts: I bought these because 1 of my Raptors went out of commission.
So i experimented with GSATA(JMicron) / AMD Sata(ORANGE) for the read speed.
GSATA IS SLOW!!

4 out of 5 eggsPartiot Solid State

Pros: Very fast. Great performance. I have an awesome custom build machine and these things are great. Quad core, 8 gb ddr 3, GTX 275.

Cons: i bought 2 and right off the bat had to rma one. I use them in a raid configuration for speed and have had lots of problems. Raids would randomly fall apart. Lots of corrupted data. I'm currently not using them as my system drive anymore because of all the problems i was having. I noticed that another person that left a comment was saying similar things.

Other Thoughts: I know alot about computers. I fix and use computers everyday for a living. These drives are great and have alot of potential, but still seem kind of buggy. Maybe firmware updates could help fix problems. Its not fun to install windows 3 days in a row and have a raid fall apart 3 days in a row. Have not seen this happen with any other drives. Put my western digitals back in and havent had a problem since, so im sure its not my motherboard or any other parts. even changed sata cables.

5 out of 5 eggsBought two a year ago

Pros: Two of these in RAID 0 are amazing as a boot drive. I average 132 MB/s. I will never go back to rotating disks.

Cons: Price still hasn't gone down, so I bought 2 more similar drives to add to my array (Patriot PS-100).

Other Thoughts: Benchmark says over 311 MB/s with two additional drives. Will wait and see if I notice any benefits.

1 out of 5 eggsGood while it works

Pros: Typically positives for SSD's: no heat, no noise, and blistering read performance.

Cons: JMicron controller

Other Thoughts: Had it in my HTPC for almost exactly 1 yr - and boom started to get corrupted system files. After a disk scan, numerous bad sectors were detected. MLC's and especially JMicron based SSD are infamous for early failure. Go to tomshardware.com where you'll see they recommend NOT buying any JMircon based SSD's and now a I know why.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We are sorry for the inconvenience your failed drive has caused you. Please contact support@patriotmem.com to see if you within the terms of warranty and if so, we would like to get your defective drive replaced.

Patriot Memory Support Team

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect server system disk

Pros: No moving parts.
No magnetic media.
Low power consumption.
Zero noise.
Essentially no heat.
Very fast access times.
Good read and write throughputs compared to other SSDs of the same size.
All the advantages that essentially any SSD will have over platter drives.

Cons: Write speeds are good for an SSD, but not spectacular when one is used to mechanical drive performance.
For my exact use it did not mount properly without modification to the case, but that is a fault of the designer (me), not the products.

Other Thoughts: Purchased this as a system drive for a fileserver that was built in February this year. As expected installing an operating system took some time longer than on traditional drives, but the boot times were a fraction of the time, and loading applications was similar enough to not see any noticable performance difference. Of course, being an SSD this has a limited number of writes in its lifetime, but with an SSD-intelligent operating system it should be able to minimise this. It's worked fine for me for ten months with at most two hours machine of downtime so far running Server 2003 in an eight disk storage array.
