1 out of 5 eggsNot great

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Callisto Deluxe MKNSSDCL40GB-DX 2.5" 40GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Fast for what they are.

Reasonable warranty duration for a consumer product

Cons: Purchased two at the same time. One is already failing and both have a massive number of error being reported by SMART.

Will need the warranty duration for this product.

2 out of 5 eggsFailed after three years

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Callisto Deluxe MKNSSDCL40GB-DX 2.5" 40GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Does everything it's supposed to, like it's supposed to

Cons: Failed after three years after a series of bluescreens.

Other Thoughts: I bought this for my husband back for Christmas 2010. He keeps his computer on all day and had this SSD in a raid 0 array with another SSD that I later bought him. Well, this just failed today and I am looking for warranty info because SSDs are supposed to last much longer. To compare, NO other hard drive we have bought across various brands, HDD or SSD in the past 5 years has failed on us. Doesn't give me much hope in Mushkin as an SSD developer. I have other Mushkin products in the form of Memory and how they handle this failure will dictate whether I ever buy anything from them again.

4 out of 5 eggsDrive died after 20 months

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Callisto Deluxe MKNSSDCL40GB-DX 2.5" 40GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Worked great for 20 months with good speeds in a x4 RAID10 array.

Cons: 20 months seems a bit short-lived to me, despite being in a RAID10 array used daily. Thankfully only one drive died out of 4, so it's not as pricey to repair.

3 out of 5 eggsNot too bad but look into other SSDs

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Callisto Deluxe MKNSSDCL40GB-DX 2.5" 40GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Good, cheap, quick

Cons: Not very reliable

Other Thoughts: I've reformatted a couple times on this to try to get it to work without issue. Every time I reformat, maybe once a month or two, the computer will freeze and reset itself. Then it tells me there's a problem with the drive and just refuses to finish booting Windows. Pulling power from the whole machine and powering it back up is the only way to get Windows going again. I've even tried buying new SATA cables and trying every SATA port on my motherboard. It's not the motherboard as the HDD I have connected never has an issue. It could be worse but it's really frustrating when you use it for the OS on your HTPC and it misses recording your favorite shows because it just hiccups like this.

1 out of 5 eggsUnreliable

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Callisto Deluxe MKNSSDCL40GB-DX 2.5" 40GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: None

Cons: With these drives the system constantly blue screens.
The Muskin site has no support information about any of their SSD products. I was able to find a link to a .zip file on muskin.com for a firmware upgrade from a 3rd party site. It had no documentation but the updater said it was not compatible with my drive.

Other Thoughts: I purchased two of these drives and installed them in two identical brand new barebones SFF systems. After about 6 attempts at installing Windows 7, drivers and then running sysprep I chose the install that only gave me 1 BSOD. I then installed Microsoft office and the system will constantly blue screen with a KERNEL_INPAGE_ERROR when attempting to install the Office service pack.

The design of this drive is obviously at fault as I have two drives and two systems to test with and they both produce the same results which is BSOD that indicates a disk issue under "heavy" disk load.

2 out of 5 eggsWhen it's working, it's great. But it hangs constantly.

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Callisto Deluxe MKNSSDCL40GB-DX 2.5" 40GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Installed in a 2006 Macbook Pro. When it's working correctly, the drive is very fast compared to platter drives. However, this thing hangs CONSTANTLY. Like, once per day.

Sometimes, it will have for a few seconds and come back. Other times, it will hang and the only fix is to force a power down by holding the power button.

Cons: Constantly hangs

2 out of 5 eggsA dud

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Callisto Deluxe MKNSSDCL40GB-DX 2.5" 40GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Sata 2 solid state boots up quick.

Cons: freezes often when multi tasking. after a week it stopped working and wouldnt be recogonized by computer. then week later will just start working again. off and on for months now. and now its just dead. tried in other computers and same problem.. im sure its just a defective one. So will see how well and quick company replaces it

Other Thoughts: You dont have to use a sata 2 hard drive in your old computer. the sata 3 cards/upgrades work just fine with sata 3 equipt I noticed. At least the one I bought

1 out of 5 eggsVery bad experience

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Callisto Deluxe MKNSSDCL40GB-DX 2.5" 40GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: When it worked I had a constant 8 second boot up time with win7, the brackets it came with worked well, no problems installing and it did solid on performance tests.

Cons: First one I bought came DOA. Second one worked for about 3 weeks and died. Also, NE did a terrible job with shipping on time. At least, according to their package tracker
