1 out of 5 eggsUnreliable

Pros: None

Cons: With these drives the system constantly blue screens.
The Muskin site has no support information about any of their SSD products. I was able to find a link to a .zip file on muskin.com for a firmware upgrade from a 3rd party site. It had no documentation but the updater said it was not compatible with my drive.

Other Thoughts: I purchased two of these drives and installed them in two identical brand new barebones SFF systems. After about 6 attempts at installing Windows 7, drivers and then running sysprep I chose the install that only gave me 1 BSOD. I then installed Microsoft office and the system will constantly blue screen with a KERNEL_INPAGE_ERROR when attempting to install the Office service pack.

The design of this drive is obviously at fault as I have two drives and two systems to test with and they both produce the same results which is BSOD that indicates a disk issue under "heavy" disk load.

1 out of 5 eggsSucks, SUCKS, SUCKS!!!

Pros: Cheap, some work for a while

Cons: Drive works sometimes, hangs the system up frequently, I need to try a firmware update but the mushkin site is down.

Other Thoughts: Buy OCZ

2 out of 5 eggsWhen it's working, it's great. But it hangs constantly.

Pros: Installed in a 2006 Macbook Pro. When it's working correctly, the drive is very fast compared to platter drives. However, this thing hangs CONSTANTLY. Like, once per day.

Sometimes, it will have for a few seconds and come back. Other times, it will hang and the only fix is to force a power down by holding the power button.

Cons: Constantly hangs

2 out of 5 eggsA dud

Pros: Sata 2 solid state boots up quick.

Cons: freezes often when multi tasking. after a week it stopped working and wouldnt be recogonized by computer. then week later will just start working again. off and on for months now. and now its just dead. tried in other computers and same problem.. im sure its just a defective one. So will see how well and quick company replaces it

Other Thoughts: You dont have to use a sata 2 hard drive in your old computer. the sata 3 cards/upgrades work just fine with sata 3 equipt I noticed. At least the one I bought

1 out of 5 eggsVery bad experience

Pros: When it worked I had a constant 8 second boot up time with win7, the brackets it came with worked well, no problems installing and it did solid on performance tests.

Cons: First one I bought came DOA. Second one worked for about 3 weeks and died. Also, NE did a terrible job with shipping on time. At least, according to their package tracker

5 out of 5 eggsfantastic

Pros: Fast. Inexpensive. Still flawless after 9 months.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I've used this same drive with two different motherboards and two different processors - both with Win 7. No problems. No BSOD, like others have reported. If you're mounting in a 3.5" drive bay, make sure to buy an adapter kit - but you probably already knew that.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome little boot drive

Pros: First, I want to say that the drive is currently the same price on Amazonnn If you have Prime you can get it with free 2 day shipping.

This hard drive is perfect for all of you people out there like myself. If you're still rocking a sweet laptop past it's prime, definitely think about reaching for this drive as a new breath of life. Using it solely as a boot drive on an older (2007) lenovo machine with XP, it turned my trusty old laptop into a speed monster. Solid State Drives are amazing, and this is easily the best one in this price range/size.

Next to expanding your machine's memory, this is the most cost-effective performance upgrade you can make. You won't be disappointed.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Give it a try. You can always move it to another computer or use it as a a small portable external drive!

4 out of 5 eggsGreat for netbook upgrade

Pros: Cloned my old Atom single core netbook that was barely moving onto this drive. What a difference! Boots to Windows in less than 20 seconds. Before it took up to 5 minutes to shutdown, now it is back to normal.

Cons: HDtune showed old drive around 80MB/s, and this drive is only around 110MB/s.

Other Thoughts: Doesn't offer a huge transfer performance over old drive, but the access times make the huge difference.

1 out of 5 eggsStay Away...

Pros: It's fast when it works.

Cons: Constant crashes, BSOD, freezing, often the drive won't even be recognized in the BIOS

Other Thoughts: I wouldn't recommend this drive at all. I read the other reviews and thought maybe they were being exaggerated. Sadly they weren't. I've had the drive about 16 hours now and it's frozen more times than I can count.

I've been trying to use it as a boot drive for the faster start up times but I haven't even been able to get through the windows updates without it crashing. Do yourself a favor and go with a brand name drive. That's what I get for trying to save a few dollars.

I haven't bothered to contact Mushkin because it's not worth the hassle just to get a new drive that will fail the same way in a few days (if I'm lucky) I'm just going to bite the bullet and purchase an Intel SSD.
