Really need 8GB of DDR2?

Pros: The OCZ Gold DDR2 is fine. However, if you are running a 32 Bit OS (most people) 4 GB is all your system will actually use (this includes your video card's ram which is why most new systems are only equipped with 3 GB of DDR2).

Cons: My 32 Bit OS (Vista Premium) will only utilize 4 GB (Yep, I wasted $100). Until you're utilizing a 64 Bit OS don't waste the extra money on 8 GB (wish someone had told me as I actually bought 8 GB for two systems).

Pros: Some people may say 8 gb of memory is over kill I say its necessary. With this much memory coupled with my Q9450 Quad core I finally have a computer that thinks as fast as I do. No more wait times. As soon as I double click to open a program or a game it instantly opens. Shutdown is under 15 seconds...start up under 15 seconds. Its great. This is great memory runs cool....fast...and very reliable...for a great price. I searched 2 months for the best memory and with such low timings and latency this is the best memory at 800 mhz.. I chose this over the ddr3 because of the timings and latency being much much much lower. And this 8 gbs are actually faster than ddr3 because of that.

Cons: none.

Other Thoughts: IM glad i bought all the ram i could while it is so cheap.
I did a lot of research on which ram to get. The new DDR 3 with high timings and high latency or the DDR 2. I have to say I really wanted to get the 8 gB of 2000 mhz DDR 3 but at the end of the day, you need a decent cooling system for that heat that comes off and for 8 gbs you have to spend nearly $1,000 dollars for a good quad channel kit. So i stuck to my DDR 2 Memory and I am very happy.

Solid memory for over a year and counting...

Pros: This RAM is solid, reliable memory. I have 8GB installed running in an Asus P5B-Plus, and have had no problems.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: The SPD timings wern't as good as the stated timings so I had to manually set them to 5-5-5-18 in the Bios. 5-5-5-15 works well too, but I havn't tried overclocking these any further than that.

Pros: Great product. I bought 4 2GB sticks. OS startup was quicker as well as loading in-game maps/levels. Overall great performance upgrade.

Cons: They are snug on the motherboard but they do fit. Heat can be an issue in a poorly ventilated box. Be sure you have sufficient fans.

Other Thoughts: Great bang for the buck. Paid $159 for 8gb and got a flash drive (which I don't really use but cool anyway) The gold cooling plates make them look pretty slick if you have an open case.

Pros: it is everything that i have ever looked for in RAM. large capacity, great speed, low price (at least it was when i bought it)

my windows 7 report has gone from a 5.2 on my ram (my previous 3GB of RAM) to a 7.1.

Cons: um... more like my case, it was a pain in the behind to install. hard drive enclosure right over the RAM slots. nothing negative about the RAM
