WOW
- Pros: This 120GB formats out to 121.30GB, max (I was surprised too). I just upgraded from an OCZ Core 64GB in my macbook pro, and I have an Mtron 7500 32GB in an XP computer. This absolutely blows the speed of each of them away. No more pauses like the Core had; and forget benchmarks. It's a seat-of-your-pants difference that will make you smile every time you open a huge program like Photoshop CS4 or Final Cut. I tried it in OSX10.6 for a day, and little programs like iCal (which are streamlined down to only a few megs) open before the mouse button rebounds. Activity Monitor would register over 250MBps copies, so the read speed is greatly underestimated, even while it's writing at full speed.
It recognizes the drive and boots quick, 20.8 secs avg from the moment I press power till it's read to use, however, once the gray firmware screen goes away, it's less than 2secs before it's ready to use. It snaps up instantly.
- Cons: None of your Firewire800 RAID tanks will keep up with it. It takes a Fiber Channel rack of SAS drives to accept data externally as fast as it can read. There's nothing for your hater friends to "ya, but" about in this SSD...they'll probably get jealous and insult other things (like, maybe, "You're a tool for buying that new M3 when I changed out all the internals in my Altima, twin turbocharged it, remapped the ECU, bored it out and put in custom pistons, and got a massive, obnoxious 4in exhaust, and now I run low 14's an embarrassing economy car...haha...you look like a fool to spending all that money for a car that's usually only a second and a half quicker to the end of the track"...or something like that...lol...at a university, that's what jealous guys talk about when women aren't even realistic enough for them to discuss :-D). Ya...not many cons thusfar. The "increased battery life" is a myth...perhaps a lie. People sitting next to you will notice its silence and ask why.
- Other Thoughts: Like broadband internet, then wifi routers, as soon as you get this, you won't know how you did without it. It is now bulletproof...no pauses when accessing data, especially Time Machine and MobileMe syncs. The read speed is no longer the bottle neck...the next productivity enhancement you'll have to get once you have one of these is your reaction time. Moving that mouse/stylus is a real bottleneck compared to the hard drive now...which never causes me to stop what I'm doing and wait. PS, with Photoshop CS4 on 10.6, the gaussian blur and unsharp mask respond so fast that it's a real-time slider. It's so weird. I went to adjust the blur, then wait for the refresh, and I realized the blur follows the slider no matter how fast I move it. Some fundamental change in the OS has made a pretty big difference in Photoshop's resource access.
The only way this gets better is to have bigger, cheaper drives. I think this has reached SATA300's limits on both ends, read and write.
- Pros: Works well in a unibody macbook. Boot times are amazing. VMware brings XP out of suspension in about 5 seconds. Safari launches instantaneously and Office 2008 takes about 1 second to launch. Simply put, this is the best upgrade you can do for a mac laptop.
- Cons: Still rather expensive.
- Other Thoughts: Xbench results:

Wow.
- Pros: Goes like greased lightning. I did a bunch of research on SSDs, and agonized over the price, but decided to bite the bullet, and I'm glad I did. You just can't beat this drive's performance for the price, especially if you shop around.
- Cons: Expensive, but you know that going in.
- Other Thoughts: This is a fantastic drive, big enough to serve as an OS/application drive. Pair it with a big magnetic drive for data, and you're set.
Firmware is a hassle
- Pros: I did a lot of research before purchasing this drive, and it seems to have the best price/performance ratio. Unfortunately, mine bricked before I could get the firmware updated to support the Trim command, needed for effective operation.
- Cons: I just bought this drive (early November) and the firware was even up to the revision released in June! It was 3 revs behind. The drive bricked during the first update to v1.1. The OCZ website has incomplete information on it and didn't even mention the v1.4 update, which is needed for Trim.
The forums have a lot of information, but much of it is out of date and conflicts. You find multiple versions of the update software with differing information on what to expect. One set of instructions say it takes 2 seconds to flash the drive, but a later post will tell you that it could take a couple hours. Mine took 4 minutes before reporting a write error.
- Other Thoughts: I gave this drive 3 eggs, assuming that once I get my RMA processed and get a new drive and go through the hassle of updating the firmware that it performs as expected. I think that's being generous. Considering this is the single most expensive component in my new system, I'm pretty disappointed.
I think it's sad that a manufacturer has a product out there with firmware that is this far out of date. It's also sad that you have do them each sequentially.

**Backplate not included**
- Pros: Excellent cooling effect. Acceptably quiet operation. Includes an ultra quiet power adapter.
- Cons: Blades easy to bend. Had to be installed horizontal to the tower due to blocking of first PCI Express slot and first RAM DIMM chip.
- Other Thoughts: Didn't come with a backplate for the motherboard and my Supermicro board did not include one. Ran out to MC and grabbed one for $.99.

Manufacturer Response:Hello, this review is for a CPU cooler, not the SSD drive it is attached to. Thank you
