Consider the Intel drive instead
- Pros: Relatively fast and relatively affordable when compared to other high-end offerings. Sounds great on paper.
- Cons: First of all, the drive shipped with defective firmware (1199) that kept causing massive data loss under moderate write loads (desktop environment).
Second, who cares about sequential write speed? Due to 2-level fragmentation (file system first, then wear leveling blocks second) a worn-in drive never gets to do sequential writes. Publish 4k random read/write numbers instead, those are what matter.
After complaining, OCZ Chief Marketing Officer offered to send a replacement drive with an updated firmware. I thought this was a nice touch but they never actually got around to sending anything... More talk than substance?
- Other Thoughts: Very concerned about OCZ/Indilinx QA processes. Avoid their drives until the reliability issues are definitely sorted out. Give them a year or so.
Has to be said, flashing the drive to the 1.10 firmware seems to have ironed out the kinks, but given the serious problems from earlier on, I can't help but just wait for the next disaster to strike.

Manufacturer Response:Hello, we are sorry that you have had problems. Most drives should be shipping with new newer firmware, and most systems are actually fine with the older versions. The new firmware fixed issues on specific platforms. Thank you
Late 2008 MBP be ware
- Pros: Very fast, but way to expensive for all the hassle. If the issues are fixed with software and firmware updates I would easily give this drive 5 stars.
- Cons: The single biggest issue is that boot camp only seems to work on unibody Mac Book Pros. This is a huge issue for me, because I will have to swap my hard drive to use windows at school. The only other issue is that you can only flash the drive on a windows system.
- Other Thoughts: OCZ almost has it right. I have faith in them since Anandtech said they are responsive to customer complaints. If they fix these two issues I will be buying 10 of them for my clients. Otherwise I will be buying Intel when they release bigger drives. I do not understand why OCZ would neglect customers that own premium products especially at this price point.
-
Manufacturer Response:Hello, thanks for you comments. We appreciate the feedback. We are always looking to better serve our customers, and that includes Mac customers as well. Thank you

Fast, Poor Reliability
- Pros: It's really fast. No moving parts. Silent. Works in my MacBook Pro 17" unibody. 250GB is a nice chunk of space. I use VMware Fusion 3 and have a Win2k3 Server VM that boots in ~23 seconds, where my old MBP w/ 7,200rpm drive took over a minute.
- Cons: The first drive lasted 6 days then died without warning. I read some stuff online, went to eat breakfast, came back and Mac OS X had basically froze. I rebooted it and got the flashing question mark folder of death. Now I have Time Machine doing hourly backups and Super Duper doing full backups twice a day. The drive is really fast and cool, but you must constantly back your stuff up and expect the drive to fail.
- Other Thoughts: I heard SSDs slow down over time, but I haven't experienced that yet. Just remember to back your stuff up every day/hour. Data loss sucks.
-
Manufacturer Response:Hello, we are very sorry for the problem. Reliability for this product is extremely good overall, and you should not have to worry about failure. We do recommend frequent backups, as this should be done with any drive, whether it is a standard hard drive or SSD, where you have important data being stored. Thank you
COZ its the best
- Pros: Using two of these in raid 0 as a video capture drive, hits a steady 340MB/s (minimal linear write), no spiking, scales uniformly, performance is even across entire capacity. Max linear write speeds are 400-500MB/s, read speeds are somewhere in the GB/s range.
Start collecting your HDD's now, because in a decade they will be antiques.
- Cons: Well obviously $$$
- Other Thoughts: Win7 x64 on an ocz agility
Core i7 920 12gbram
WOW
- Pros: WOW! Everything opens and starts almost instantly. I installed this in a sony vaio, with 4gb ram, and a 2.26 core 2 duo. The drive was extremly easy to load the factory recovery onto. It already had the current 1.30 firmware. Garbage collection. You can even use crystaldisk infor to get how much life it left on the drive. No heat, no noise. The fujitsu it repalced got really hot, hotter than the CPU. I havent noticed a differance in the displayed battery life. It said 2 hours 30 minutes before upgrade on a full charge and now it says the same. It may last longer though.
- Cons: Not really a con, but I don't think any SSD is really worth the price there charging. $300-$400 should be the max.
