1 out of 5 eggsWorst $1718 I've EVER spent !

Pros: Really fast when it was working... And worked for about a month at a time

Cons: Even with reassurance from the OCZ tech that i talked to... These do NOT work in raid 0 (or raid 1).
If you install these drives in ANY kind of Raid array, they will crash in short order.

Other Thoughts: I am (was) running these on a EVGA X58 4-way classified and tried it on my RocketRaid 4320. I also tried the install with every bios and raid driver update. No luck

4 out of 5 eggsOCZ Sucks Update no.2

Pros: Awesome drive,,,,!!!! I like this drive very much now, after a few windows 7 ssd tweeks (basic ssd tweeks) helped. Drive gets up to 241 mb/s read, and 200 mb/s write in Atto disc benchmark. And up to 267 mb/s read, and 180 mb/s write in CrystalDiskMark 3.0.

Cons: Not the Advertised speeds, but good none the less. You would think for a $850 drive that it would come with directions in the box, let alone buying 2 of these. It seems the more you pay the less you get.
OCZ needs to fix there call support. People want to talk to a human in real time not a recording, and the forums don't fit everyones situation. Forums didn't help me. A body on the other end of the phone did.

Other Thoughts: Overall I like the drive. It performs well. Boots up in 50 seconds in AHCI mode to usable statis. I like having races with the other pc's in the house. I give them a head start and I still beat them, it's cool!!!

1 out of 5 eggsOCZ - CAN'T TALK WITH ANYONE

Pros: None. There product does what all others do

Cons: It dies. I have two 250 GB SSD's in Raid 1. One died within a week. Newegg was great and shipped another overnight.

Two months later another died. It may have been the new one or the original. Newegg says call OCZ. OCZ only sets up tickets by email and promises a call within 24 hrs. Of course no call comes. You call back to the main number, she says sure I'll give you a real person. I left a voice mail. No one calls back, but a few hours later, I did get an RMA

But that does me no good. By the time they get it and inspect it, and send me a new by ground, or call me for a credit card for freight, it could be 2 weeks at best or months. Who knows, they will not talk to you.

So, I have to buy a new drive. Keeping the Raid up is important to business.

OCZ is the worst service in the industry

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, we are sorry for the communication issues. Please call our support manager at (408)733-8400, ext 206. We will be happy to talk to you and personally assist you.
Thank you

2 out of 5 eggsBuy 2, 1 dead in 30 days, Buy 2 more - 1 dead < 5 hours

Pros: Unbelievable speed, great for tempdb and index storage in SQL Server.

Cons: Unreliable, OCZ is difficult to deal with for warranty.

Other Thoughts: I'll continue to buy more of these, but the reliability needs to be addressed by OCZ.

Manufacturer Response:

4 out of 5 eggsGreat while it lasted...

Pros: -Excellent write and read speeds!
-VERY light and the drive itself looks very professional!
-GREAT amount of storage for an SSD!

Cons: -Failed after two months of use

Other Thoughts: I REALLY like this drive but I reliability is a big factor in the products I purchase especially ones of a computer nature.
I have contacted OCZ with an RMA and hopefully they can hook me up with a drive that wont fail or maybe one of their more reliable SSD models...

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, we are sorry for the problem. Our support staff will set you up with a replacement drive.
Thank you

5 out of 5 eggsOCZ Colossus 250GB

Pros: This drive is extremely fast! I installed it, put Windows 7 Ultimate 64 on it, and.. wow! This is how hard drives should be made! Everything you click on is either instantly opening, or only takes seconds instead of minutes. Booting Windows 7 on this drive takes on average 20 seconds. I kept my old Vista on a standard hard drive, so I can compare both setups. The free version of HD Tune shows this drive testing above 210MB for the entire drive as expected. The latency is almost nothing! Compared the scores against a 10,000 RPM drive, and the OCZ clobbers it! The 10,000 RPM drive can only get about 130MB speed and only for a small part of the drive before performance drops off.

Cons: The price! The price for this technology needs to drop a lot! I love this drive and I would have purchased another to put it in raid0, but the price is just way too high. I think for a drive of this size, the price should be around $250. At that level, tons of people would be buying these drives.

Also, the maker of the SD memory cards recently announced that they will be making 1TB cards very soon that will still be small enough to be compatible with all those digital cameras. The speed of these new 1TB cards will be around 300 to 400MB/s. If I am right, the price for these cards will be less than these desktop SSDs. So if the price is lower, the storage size is way bigger, and the performance is higher, then the SSD prices will have to get lower or else someone will make desktop enclosures to Raid0 several of those SD cards. Then the demand for ultra expensive SSD's would drop.

Other Thoughts: I hope the SSD manufacturers see this and consider lowering the prices for SSDs. I want to be able to put multiple SSDs in all of my computers and laptops, but as of right now, the price is just too much.

1 out of 5 eggsCapacity trouble

Pros: Nothing

Cons: Nothing

Other Thoughts: I bought two of Colossus 250 GB and when I mounted them they appeared as 120 each. I asked for help and I send them to OCZ Netherlands 5 months ago to repair them with RMA ticket. No answer yet. They knew the problem but they didn't announced anything before we buy them. OCZ sucks...

3 out of 5 eggsFast speed. Mediocre design.

Pros: Fast. Common programs load instantly. Games load very quickly. Extended loaded during Mass Effect 2 only take 5-15 seconds.

Cons: I bought 2 of these to run in a RAID 0. I get occasional error messages from the drives. This could be the cable connection rather than the drive itself. Why one would build a piece of equipment that costs over $800 and not make the SATA connection compatible with locking SATA cable I'll never know. Any $25 CD ROM drive is compatible with locking SATA cables. I took away and Egg for the data errors and an Egg for the SATA connector.

Other Thoughts: I wish I had a program to benchmark the drives.

Keep in mind that these are still bleeding edge technology and faster less expensive drives with likely be released 6-12 months down the road.

3 out of 5 eggsOCZ sucks UPDATE

Pros: Runs faster than a spinning drive, no heat problem, lighter, all aluminum case, 3.5" no bracket.
Newegg's shipping is stable and there packing has gotten better for me. No eggs off for newegg at all.
THIS DRIVE must be in AHCI mode for AMD setup. See motherboard user's manual.

Cons: When I first bought these I called OCZ support and they made no mention that the drive had to be in AHCI mode. It was after I RMAed the drive to them, they tested it and said it was working fine on an Intell test board. what good is that to me I have an AMD setup?I have 2 of these drives and I am still not getting the 220 sustained write speed on the drive with my OS on it, but I am getting that on the other storage drive. But overall it is better and faster than my other review.

Other Thoughts: AMD Phenom II x4 965 3.4 GHZ cpu
2- Colossus 250 GB SSD's
Scythe Cooler SCKBT-1000 R
IKONIK 1000 watt. PSU
Gigabyte GA-MA790FXT-UD5P AM3 mobd
2x3=6 gb G.Skill ripjaws RAM
Coolmaster 932 ATX full tower case
XFX Radeon HD 5870 CypressXT XXX Edition
X-FI Titanium sound card
10- Fan and Temp controls ( 12 fans total)
1-SONY CD/DVD Burner/player
1-BR/CD/DVD Burner/player
MD3 media dashboard
Windows 7 OS
Logitech speakers,keyboard,mouse

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, we are happy that your experience has improved, and we thank you for the update. Other than ACHI mode requirements, there is basically no difference in SSD drive function between Intel and AMD systems, just as this is true for standard hard drives. If it works on Intel, it works on AMD. We do test on both systems when qualifying new products, to insure that there are no issues. I have relayed your comments to our support staff so they can evaluate the interaction they had with you. We aplogize for the confusion.
Thank you
