Based on a cutting-edge new architecture, Vertex 2 Solid State Drives deliver unprecedented performance while maintaining an affordable storage solution for early adopters looking to update their systems with the latest technology. OCZ designed the Vertex 2 to excel in both sequential and random read/write rates to take your PC or notebook productivity to the next level, featuring superb 4KB random writes up to 50,000 IOPS to give a performance edge over the previous generation. Using the latest controller technology, Vertex 2 not only provides a faster, more responsive PC experience, but promotes cooler, quieter, and more energy efficient conditions compared to traditional mechanical hard drives. Built with SATA 3Gb/s, the Vertex 2 Series easily integrates into today’s mobile and desktop platforms and features TRIM support to optimize performance over the drive’s lifespan as the ultimate Windows 7 notebook or desktop upgrade.

  • newegg SSD Storage Technology Unlike traditional hard disk drives, SSDs have no moving parts, resulting in a quiet, cool, highly reliable storage solution that also offers faster application loading and system responsiveness. And for laptops and netbooks, the lower power needs of SSD’s translate to extended battery life. Higher performance with more durability means you can be truly mobile with confidence.
  • newegg Better Performance Built with MLC NAND flash and the latest generation SandForce SF1200 controller featuring award winning DuraClass Technology, the OCZ Vertex 2 200GB SSD delivers industry-leading SSD reliability, performance, and power efficiency, with maximum read speed up to 285 MB/s and maximum write speed up to 275 MB/s, plus incredible random 4K write performance of 50,000 IOPS.
  • newegg TRIM Support The OCZ Vertex 2 Series SSD’s offer native TRIM support than can be enabled in Windows 7. Designed to maintain the performance of SSD at an optimal level over the lifetime of the drive, TRIM functions by actively deleting invalid data from the SSD’s memory cells to ensure that write operations perform at full speed. Since a memory block must be erased before it can be re-programmed, TRIM improves performance by pro-actively erasing pages containing invalid data, allowing the SSD to write new data without first having to perform a time-consuming erase command.
  • newegg 2.5" to 3.5" Adapter Included The OCZ Vertex 2 Series is specifically designed for notebook computers coming in a 2.5-inch hard drive form factor. In addition, the installation kit includes a 2.5" to 3.5" bracket for matching with 3.5” drive bay to extend the storage of your desktop computer.

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible product

Pros: Fast when it worked.

Cons: I purchased this drive over a year ago. I have had to return 3 of them to the manufacturer. The first went bad after a few months (bios would not recognize disk). The RMA drive was DOA. And then the RMA for that drive was DOA. Poor experience with this product

1 out of 5 eggsunreliable ssd

Pros: When working, it was fine

Cons: Less than one year of use, paid over $435 and drive failed in tenth month of use. Lost login settings, program installs and could not reinstall windows. Had to go with a different drive for my i7 system. This is unacceptable. unreliable

Manufacturer Response:

We sincerely aplogize for the difficulties. Please visit the link below and create a support ticket. Our staff will be happy to recommend system settings and give setup advice to insure future reliability. We care about our customers and are here to help. Thank you

1 out of 5 eggsdead 3 times

Pros: Fast like other ssd.

Cons: dead 3 times and asked different type ssd, and got agility 3, 120g. Ended up paid $290 instead paying around $140. That's what OCZ can do, what OCZ CS said. But ever since I got replacement, Agility 3,120G, Works as I expect and never failed.

Other Thoughts: A kind of afraid to try other OCZ SSD for other system.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat when it works

Pros: Fast, spacious for an SSD.

Cons: Working my second RMA right now.

Other Thoughts: Got this as an upgrade for a first-generation 64GB Vertex drive. I've gone through two so far, because of eventual white screens of death on my MacBook Pro. The first one went in and out for a week or so before giving me nothing but the white screen. The second one took down my OS (Arch Linux at the time) one element at a time: the browser crashed and wouldn't restart, KDE elements started disappearing, and when I tried to switch to a different screen to log in as root, it couldn't find the account. Switched back to KDE and more and more if it died until I had only a cursor and a black screen. Popped in the original 64GB drive and all was good. While the 200GB drive was up, it was exceptionally fast. There's nothing else to say, because it's just a magic black box: no heat, no vibration. I should probably give it fewer than 4 stars, but my 64GB version has been such a workhorse I'm giving OCZ the benefit of the doubt.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Windows 7 64bit will load to a usable state in 12 seconds.

Sandforce Controller, Supports TRIM.

Cons: Price.

Other Thoughts: Benchmarking reveals 283MB/s to 321MB/s reads and 114MB/s to 194MB/s writes. Strangely enough the higher speeds were from the real world benchmarks.

2 out of 5 eggsDied on me

Pros: Very fast with easy install

Cons: Was detected as Sandforce 25gb in the bios, then corrected itself to show Vertex 200gb. After 3 weeks it was no longer detected by the bios AT ALL.

Other Thoughts: I contacted OCZ but no response. I'm sure they'll answer to the feedback with some Bull. I still replaced it with the same hoping it will not fail again. If it does I'll give Corsair a shot.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, we aplogize for the problem. If you created a support ticket at the link below, our staff will be with you soon. We will see that your needs are taken care of. No bull, Thanks

1 out of 5 eggsTotal failure within 24 hours

Pros: * Decent price
* Benchmarked well for the little time it was stable.

Cons: * Corrupted two Win7 installations within 3 hours of use
* Controller eventually stopped talking to BIOS (on m4500 and in external enclosure)

Other Thoughts: Returned to NewEgg for replacement, out of stock and refunded. Going with the equivalent X-25 and a brand I trust (more, at least).

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, we are very sorry for the problem. We care about our customers and are pleased that you have found a suitable solution. Thank you

3 out of 5 eggsDied on me

Pros: This drive is so fast. Nuff Said

Cons: Stupid thing died on me after a week. Hopefully the next one would be better. 5 Eggs if it didn't die.

5 out of 5 eggsUnbelievable Performance at a cost

Pros: Unbelievable performance. I bought 3 and installed them in a RAID 0 Array. No special configs, just straight install. I was able to restore a normal system image (using Windows 7 Backup and Restore) that I took on my previous array and install and restore the image straight over with only one hw detection change and reboot.

I had previously installed a RAID 0 array of 3 Raptors and then went to 3 Disk RAID 5. Perfomance between the 2 was negligible.

Now a 3 SSD RAID 0 Array is almost like an instant on and launch experience. Unbelievable.

Cons: Very Expensive.

4 out of 5 eggsBig Difference

Pros: This thing is fast, no doubt. Windows boots quickly, apps like Firefox launch immediately. Storage size is great, however I have a NAS to backup and store large files that don't need the speed.

Cons: Price of course, that is what removes 1 egg. Shouldn't have spent this much but it should last a long time. Doesn't use SATA III, however my current board doesn't support it anyway. Would have been nice to future proof.

Other Thoughts: I was worried because I have used a few older SSD's and was never really impressed. They didn't support TRIM etc and had slow write rates. None of that is an issue with this drive so I am happy with it.
