Based on a cutting-edge new architecture, Vertex 2 Solid State Drives deliver unprecedented performance while maintaining an affordable storage solution for early adopters looking to update their systems with the latest technology. OCZ designed the Vertex 2 to excel in both sequential and random read/write rates to take your PC or notebook productivity to the next level, featuring superb 4KB random writes up to 50,000 IOPS to give a performance edge over the previous generation. Using the latest controller technology, Vertex 2 not only provides a faster, more responsive PC experience, but promotes cooler, quieter, and more energy efficient conditions compared to traditional mechanical hard drives. Built with SATA 3Gb/s, the Vertex 2 Series easily integrates into today’s mobile and desktop platforms and features TRIM support to optimize performance over the drive’s lifespan as the ultimate Windows7 notebook or desktop upgrade.

  • newegg SSD Storage Technology Unlike traditional hard disk drives, SSDs have no moving parts, resulting in a quiet, cool, highly reliable storage solution that also offers faster application loading and system responsiveness. And for laptops and netbooks, the lower power needs of SSD’s translate to extended battery life. Higher performance with more durability means you can be truly mobile with confidence.
  • newegg Better Performance Built with MLC NAND flash and the latest generation SandForce SF1200 controller featuring award winning DuraClass Technology, the OCZ Vertex 2 120GB SSD delivers industry-leading SSD reliability, performance, and power efficiency, with maximum read speed up to 285 MB/s and maximum write speed up to 275 MB/s, plus incredible random 4K write performance of 50,000 IOPS.
  • newegg TRIM Support The OCZ Vertex 2 Series SSD’s offer native TRIM support than can be enabled in Windows 7. Designed to maintain the performance of SSD at an optimal level over the lifetime of the drive, TRIM functions by actively deleting invalid data from the SSD’s memory cells to ensure that write operations perform at full speed. Since a memory block must be erased before it can be re-programmed, TRIM improves performance by pro-actively erasing pages containing invalid data, allowing the SSD to write new data without first having to perform a time-consuming erase command.

3 out of 5 eggsWarranty, we'll see.....

Pros: This SSD provided a significant speed upgrade for a Dell Inspiron 1720 notebook and has performed well until recently. The SSD is no longer recognized by the BIOS and freezes up the system when it is recognized.

Cons: For a SSD, the device, mean time between failures seems to be very low. In reading other reviews, I am not the first to have this problem and am in the situation where warranty support can be denied by the manufacturer.

Other Thoughts: Given the price paid for this item, cutting edge at the time, I am very disappointed. Most solid state components outlast the system they are installed in and I was hoping not to have to rebuild my data again by going solid state.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Betsy C.,

Thank you for sharing your review of the Vertex 2. The Vertex 2 does include a 3-year warranty. Regardless of the warranty status, I can offer you support and may be able to resolve this issue remotely. Please disconnect the drive from your system and contact me at your earliest convenience using the email address below. I will gladly assist however possible.

On behalf of OCZ Storage Solutions I am sorry you have experienced this issue with your Vertex 2.

Best Regards,

OCZ Storage Solutions

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: 1. Fast
2. Does what the job well with memory.

Cons: The reason i gave it a 4 eggs was because i didn't use it for about 3 years after purchase. I was sad that i couldn't make full use of the SSD since 2011 but now, i do and there is a big difference in SSD and HDD.

1 out of 5 eggsNot worth buying, won't last

Pros: Works great when it works. once it dies, forget about getting it running again.

Cons: Will die if you have it connected to a laptop that goes into sleep/hibernate made or if your computer is set to ahci mode. I contacted OCZ about mine dying, of course it was out of warranty period and all I was told was too bad. I really thought these were built to last a long time and actually take over harddrives as our new use for storage. For some reason, there are way too many ways to mess this one up and they have refused to fix it. I kept mine up to date with any firmware updates that were available but nothing came through to help make it through this. When the ssd is connected, I get red and green lights on it. Any computer that I put it into will not recognize did last a while, but not as long as my platter harddrives...sorry but due to that I cannot give it more than one star.

Other Thoughts: If they could make this where it actually can be used in place of a hard drive without any issue and make it where it will last as long or more than a hard drive then this would be a really worthwile purchase, but as it stands, I would have to say that I would definitely pass this one up.

1 out of 5 eggsWorked great. Failed fantastically

Pros: When it worked, I'd gave it raves. It was a superior drive on speed and didn't have a problem one with it. Until one day, it decided it just didn't and it failed hard. Personally, for the money.. Not worth the pain.

Cons: Seems like I'm the other with the complaints of it dying right outside the warranty. When it failed, it seriously failed. No warning, nothing other than started making my machine hang on POST. After alot of patience, I got it reformatted and actually was using it as a secondary storage device for temp files until today. Total failure and machine won't POST even when drive is in as secondary. Don't even consider this drive. I was an OCZ cheerleader but now off to another more trusted brand.

2 out of 5 eggsFailed in 3 years, like many

Pros: My initial review was 5/5 back when I initially received the product. Worked fine while it worked...

Cons: Failed in three years. A lot of people have been having failures at around the three year mark. This item used to be 5/5 review score but the sheer number of failures have dragged it down.

It was a tremendous pain when this thing failed. Funny how it failed right outside the warranty period.

1 out of 5 eggsFailed after 3 years

Pros: It was fine for 3+ years

Cons: It failed in 3 years.

Other Thoughts: Do not buy from OCZ, sooner or later you'll regret it. 3 years is a long time for some but I've got a Western Digital clunker HDD from 2005 that still spins up and works from a Dell I had in college. With no moving parts you'd think these drives would last ages. I've been disappointed yet a again my OCZ. This is my 3rd and last failed SSD from them.

3 out of 5 eggsFast... but a failure at just over 3 years

Pros: Drives are fast. I ran 2 of them in RAID-0... and, thankfully, also had said RAID-0 backed up on a separate volume.

Cons: One of the disks failed with no warning after 3 years and 3 weeks. I'll check on a warranty replacement, since it's just barely over 3 years, but I'm not holding my breath, since it was a 3-year warranty.

2 out of 5 eggsBought 9/13/2012, Failed 7/30/2014

Pros: Worked well while it was functioning.

Cons: Died in less than 2 years; apparently a big problem with this brand of SSD.
