OCZ Vertex Plus Solid State Drives are the faster, cooler, quieter, and more durable alternative to conventional hard disc drives. In combination with the latest flash memory, the Vertex Plus features the revolutionary new Indilinx Arowana FTL with HyperQueuing, which significantly increases sequential write speeds and random IOPS over the previous generation FTL. With excellent reliability and lower power consuming NAND flash, these SSDs use less energy while giving you real-world results in your everyday computing and battery life. Complete with TRIM support, Vertex Plus is the ultimate notebook or desktop upgrade.

Compared to its predecessor, Vertex Plus features higher sequential speeds along with improved 4KB random write IOPS, while offering excellent uncompressed data performance. Thanks to cost effective NAND and controller technology, the Vertex Plus offers lower cost per gigabyte configurations than competing drives on the market, making them excellent starting points into the world of SSDs.

Available in 60GB to 240GB capacities, the Vertex Plus Series is an ideal upgrade option for system boot drives, RAID arrays, or as primary laptop storage at an ultra-attractive price point.

  • newegg INDILINX Barefoot with Arowana Flash Translation Layer The OCZ Vertex Plus SSD features INDILINX's Barefoot SSD controller with revolutionary new Indilinx Arowana FTL firmware subset, which improves sequential write speeds and random IOPS with HyperQueuing and supports cost-effective 2xnm NAND flash memory. The FTL supports TRIM along with superior idle time garbage collection that requires no operating system interfacing as well as the innovative Indilinx Wiper tool for non-TRIM systems.

3 out of 5 eggsdied after 3 years

Pros: a little faster than a daily defragmented 10,000 rpm raptor drive and doesn't need to be defragmented, silent, no moving parts.

Cons: did have some firmware issues in the beginning, causing corrupted files, had an issue with drive not working in ahci till i did a secure erase, once had a locked drive issue, bought back in 9/11 died in 6/14. Raptor drive is still alive when ssd is not.

Other Thoughts: disabled hibernate and hybrid sleep and system restore, did leave temporary internet files and page file on the drive. used the drive everyday.

did a secure erase and reinstalled the os and after about 2 weeks it starts corrupting files, windows would require chkdsk to be run which after it "fixes" the file system the os no longer loads. but the drive did last about 3 years

drive was fine till after most recent reinstall of windows i guess that was enough writes to finally kill it.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't buy

Pros: I can't think of any

Cons: Drive died, again. Already RMA'd after 4 months, now after running for 10 months, the second one died too.

Other Thoughts: Have had problems with OCZ products in the past. Will not in the future.

2 out of 5 eggsUnreliable as a Permanent Drive

Pros: Fast, when it was detected. 0.35A current requirement means it can be used as a USB drive without an external power supply.

Cons: Two weeks after I bought it, my system started running scandisk every time it booted to Windows. Updating the firmware fixed that, but then a short time later, whenever I would start the computer it had about a 50/50 chance of even being detected by the computer. Turning a can of dusting air upside down and freezing the drive seemed to make it work again.

Other Thoughts: Not reliable enough to be permanently installed in a computer. Works well as a small USB drive though.

1 out of 5 eggsNot Recommended

Pros: Fast but not SATA III

Cons: Unreliable and difficult to perform firmware upgrades.
I bought this in Sept 2011. Since then it often would require Windows scandisk to scan and fix the disk upon boot. Twice, it was not readable and required re-installation.
Today, the disk was not recognizable at all and I am RMAing it OCZ.
Fortunately, I keep a full Windows disk image backup updated weekly, or I'd be $crewed.

Other Thoughts: I hope the replacement is more reliable.
Overall, I would have preferred a std hard disk over the hassle with this SSD.

1 out of 5 eggsReview update - drive is completely kaput

Pros: None

Cons: Drive completely died after 9 months in. First the corruption issues, then waiting for a firmware fix, and now it is finally dead after 9 months of ownership.

Other Thoughts: Will be sending in for RMA replace. Goes without saying I will never buy an OCZ drive nor will I ever recommend any one buy an OCZ drive.

Manufacturer Response:

We aplogize for the difficulties. Please visit the link below and create a support ticket to arrange for an RMA. We are confident that we can get you running reliably. We care about our customers and are here to help. Thank you

4 out of 5 eggspretty fast SSD

Pros: WEI gives this drive a 7.2.
It's much faster than any HDD I've ever used.
It runs solid, and I haven't had any problems after 9 months of use.

Cons: It's only SATA II (I upgraded to a SATA III Sandisk and my WEI went from 7.2 to 7.9).
It didn't come with a mounting tray (but you get what you pay for in that department).

Other Thoughts: Don't forget to format it on a working system and switch your BIOS to AHCI before you try and setup your system.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome with great price!

Pros: Are simply to say, from coming from a Momentus XT. It is obviously an increased speed difference. My boot up time has been cut into 1/3 of the time it took with the Momentus XT. In 50 seconds, I am ready for my desktop!

Cons: I have no reason for one. It works perfect!

Other Thoughts: None

3 out of 5 eggsGood until it dies suddenly

Pros: Good price/GB, fast when compared to a HDD

Cons: Died within 7 months with all my data on it (thank goodness for backups), even after upgrading to the newest firmware. RMA'd it, we'll see how the new one performs. Definitely need to have it in RAID1 if you use it as mission-critical system drive.

Other Thoughts: _Damn Sandforces! Hope they fix them.

5 out of 5 eggsStill working flawlessly

Pros: I got this in March '09, and it's still in my old MBP laptop. Still works great; never had an issue; blazingly fast (faster than that old laptop can even use).

Cons: The BIOS updates are a bit awkward for Mac users. You've gotta have a Windows machine.

Other Thoughts: Got the Vertex 3 MaxIOPS's for my new MBP and the Revo 3 MaxIOPS's for my desktop. I see a lot of odd problems with these in message boards, but I've never had an issue. I'm 99% sure that the problems are ID-10-T errors, not hardware-related. Lots of folks overestimate their expertise.
