OCZ Nocti Series NOC-MSATA-60G 60GB Mini-SATA (mSATA) MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

OCZ Nocti mSATA SSDs are the ideal upgrade for the latest notebooks and desktop systems with limited storage space. Unlike a standard drive, OCZ Nocti mSATA SSDs are smaller with no outer casing, making them a cost-effective solid state storage solution. Perfect for creating a dual-boot laptop or desktop system where all your storage slots are filled, OCZ mSATA SSDs allow for increased capacities, high speeds, and low power consumption in a small form factor. Based on the high-performance Sandforce processors, Nocti mSATA Series is the ideal upgrade for enthusiast and professional mobile workstations and tablets.

  • newegg Lightweight for On-the-Go Computing The mSATA OCZ Nocti Series enables a flexible, scalable and accelerated storage solution in a form factor that is up to 8 times smaller than a 2.5 hard-disk drive, and weighs 10 times less. Supporting SATA signals over a PCI Express (PCIe) mini-connector, the OCZ Nocti Series provides compact storage acceleration for single-drive systems like netbooks, tablets and other hand-held devices.
  • newegg High Performance & Durable Dual-Drive Option Driven by the second generation of SandForce SSD controller (SF-2141/2181), the Nocti Series delivers up to 280MB/s read and 12,500 IOPS of 4KB random write performance (60GB model), significantly improving your productivity, gaming, multimedia, and overall computing experience. The small footprint also augments hard-disk drive performance in dual-drive systems, such as all-in-ones, notebooks and small-form-factor (SFF) desktops. The mSATA form factor connects easily to an existing mSATA port on a PC enabling the SSD to perform as a boot drive, quick access to frequently-used applications or storage. In addition, the SSD controller’s integrated enhanced DuraClass Technology is architected to leverage today’s densest MLC NAND Flash memory, delivering best-in-class performance, endurance, security, and power efficiency in a “DRAM-less”, single chip solution.
  • newegg A Superior PC Experience In addition to maximum performance, a Nocti upgrade promotes cooler, quieter, and more energy efficient conditions compared to traditional mechanical hard drives. With no moving parts, SSDs provide peace of mind with their superior durability and reliability. Nocti SSDs work in perfect harmony with next generation platforms and operating systems to deliver the ultimate storage solution.
  • newegg TRIM Support The Nocti Series SSDs offer native TRIM support featured in Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2. Designed to maintain the performance of SSD at an optimal level over the lifetime of the drive, TRIM functions by actively deleting invalid data from the SSD’s memory cells to ensure that write operations perform at full speed. Since a memory block must be erased before it can be re-programmed, TRIM improves performance by pro-actively erasing pages containing invalid data, allowing the SSD to write new data without first having to perform a time-consuming erase command.

4 out of 5 eggsGood part

Pros: Good speed

Cons: Was disapointed that installation of windows 7 professional 64 bits was not working properly even after firmware and bios updates. Never started on my W520. Using as storage

1 out of 5 eggsFreeze up Issue.

Pros: Decent Amount of space. Is fast in Rapid Storage mode when it works.

Cons: There seems to be some issue with this ssd. When running programs off the drive or when using this as a cache, there will be a 7sec to 1 minute system lockup due to the fact that this drive becomes non-responsive. Because of this problem I am unable to use this since I cannot afford to lag like this.

5 out of 5 eggsBig speed from little chip

Pros: This this packs a punch for its tiny little size. I have this installed as the boot drive in a machine with an Intel G630T (low-power Pentium Dual-Core). The machine boots in 4 seconds flat. It's so fast the Windows 7 logo can't even start the animation.

Cons: Quite a bit more expensive than standard SSDs.

Other Thoughts: Please be aware that this is a mSATA device. It goes into a slot in a computer that looks EXACTLY like a miniPCI express slot, but is NOT the same thing. MiniPCIe and mSATA are electrically different. Be sure you computer specifically states it is compatible with mSATA before attempting to use this.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks great with Intel Rapid Storage Technology

Pros: I've been running this mSATA drive for a few weeks now as a cache drive for Intel Rapid Storage Technology. I'm using it to cache a 750GB Seagate 7200RPM drive. When enabled, it makes a huge difference in terms of speed. I originally had this as my boot drive, but quickly ran out of space. Combining the SSD with the Hard Drive to make a hybrid set-up really makes for a very decent performance boost.

Cons: Price. Wish it was cheaper, but hey, it was on sale when I purchased it. Can get a little hot, but not really had any trouble with it.

Other Thoughts: This was installed in an Alienware M14x R2. No effort to install and configure.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent. Quick. No problems.

Pros: I was skeptical due to some of the negative reviews on this. But no problems whatsoever. Plugged it into my W520 under keyboard, installed Windows 7. Adjusted paging file size to 1024 mb, and disabled hypernation feature, and it's fast.

Cons: none so far

Other Thoughts: Make sure to adjust your paging file size and disable hypernation feature. Let's say you have 16 gigs of RAM, that's 32 gb of wasted disk space on paging file and hypernation file.,

5 out of 5 eggsGreat little drive

Pros: Small size and fast.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Installed this in onboard motherboard slot on a gigabyte board for smart response and love it! Nice to not have to run power and data cables to another drive. Not seeing any heat issue in this application, cool to the touch so might be when used as a cache drive this isn't an issue?

5 out of 5 eggsGreat little SSD

Pros: Great little mSATA SSD, I purchased it specifically to replace the original 30Gb SSD in my Windpad 110W that is slower than dirt and Windows 7 is now very responsive, with fast boot and application loading times like an SSD should be. Shame on MSI for equipping the Windpad 110W with such a slow and small SSD.

Cons: It's expensive... I know it's probably a good price for an SSD but every time I look at an SSD and a regular hard drive and compare capacity and prices it just turns my stomach around. But I won't knock eggs off it because of that.

Other Thoughts: Been running for several months now and there has not been any errors or problems whatsoever. Speedwise I can't complain either because my Windpad now feels like a normal everyday tablet, no slowdowns or freezes anymore. All in all I think it was perfect for what I needed.
I would have gone to the 120Gb version but it was beyond my budget.

2 out of 5 eggsOCZ is a dice roll...

Pros: Small, Fast, Boots Win 7 Home in 17s

Cons: Crashes Win 7 Home in 5 seconds...gets HOT

Other Thoughts: BSOD...like....ALWAYS. And consistently!! Drive came updated with firmware 2.15 and my BIOS was set for ACHI...crash after crash

1 out of 5 eggsI am zero for two

Pros: First one of these died within 3 weeks which was great thanks to neweggs return policy.

Cons: Second one of these I owned died at 4 weeks and 2 days. Which is bad thanks to neweggs return policy.

I am not blaming new egg in the least but dealing with OCZ's incredibly slow, lackluster technical support is a nightmare. I started the RMA process 2 months ago and still have yet to receive the replacement. Its a good thing I have already moved onto a different company and wont actually be using the drive they send me.

Other Thoughts: This is really an unfortunate experience. I have used countless ocz SSD's in my desktops and laptops over the last few years in various raid configs etc and never had a problem. This turns out to be a good thing since they fail so miserably when there is a problem.

5 out of 5 eggsusing it in MSI Windpad 110w

Pros: I replaced the Windpad 110w's 30gb ssd with this one. I didn't make many obersvations on the speed of the 30gb it replaced, but I can say that this drive seems very fast. I'm running the public Windows 8 developer preview, and the windpad boots in seconds (maybe 25) Of course, there are several different sleep/hybrid sleep "reboot" "shutdown... all of these phrases are taking on different meanings in Windows 8. I just tested a "restart" which I believe is a real fresh boot, from after POST to on Metro start page : 25seconds.
I have photoshop CS 5.5 on the windpad (love showing this to ipad users), and it launches in about 7 seconds (AFTER a strange pause at "scanning for plugins" which I think is win8 related)

Cons: SSD are still expensive.
