5 out of 5 eggsSUPER FAST

5 out of 5 eggsDigital Symbiosis

Pros: See other thoughts.

Cons: See other thoughts.

Other Thoughts: My old system was five years old. I upgraded with the following components: ASUS Maximus V Extreme, Intel Core i7-3770K, G.Skill Ripjaws DDR3 1600 4x4 16gb, RevoDrive3 X2 PCIe 480gb, Asus GTX 690, Retail Win7 Ultimate.

Total upgrade cost $3,600.00. Everything about this machine is incredibly fast, i.e. startup, interaction with other network machines, my server. Gaming is maxed out no matter what I play. All components are running at default settings now and I may OC later although at this point I haven't found any reason to.

It all went together without any major problems. I use a TD Topdeck Tech Station for build and test before mounting in the case. When it goes into the box , it's already proofed.

5 out of 5 eggsScreaming fast

Pros: This thing is fast. I mean, the leap forward in speed is nearly the same as SSDs compared to a standard hard drive. Installation is a piece of cake, just put it in the PCI slot, boot up the computer, and install the drivers.

Cons: Price. Price will be everyone's decision point on a product like this.

Pros: none

Cons: VERY Poor build quality. Opened sealed box and found the main heatsink and a number of chips loose in the antistatic bag. Returned for replacement - hope this one comes with all parts intact.

Other Thoughts: for >$1K product, you'd think they would have better quality control

1 out of 5 eggsData Corruption

Pros: While it worked, it was incredibly fast. Linux recognized the SI chips and saw it as 4 drives individually. Not a problem as I wanted ZFS to do raiding across the drives anyhow.

Cons: Lack of driver support for non Win7 if you want to have the card do its own raid. Solaris can't even see the individual drives like Linux can. Drive failed silently after 1 week. Writes to the drive became corrupted, ZFS saw it instantly thanks to the checksum write process. Windows would happily continue on as if nothing happened. Only a scandisk revealed the issues.

OCZ did not take our troubleshooting of it to heart. We were running our production DB off it. So when it failed it hurt, and having to do another 6+ h of drive testing as OCZ asked for the RMA was not acceptable. I RMAd it to Newegg. I am very worried of putting this into production when I get it back from RMA. I think I'll switch to standard SSDs for now.

Other Thoughts: I inadvertantly posted this review to another OCZ SSD in the same order. The vertex3 240g. That drive is in running very good.

Given the cost of the drive and newegg not offering refunds on it... Makes me even more worried to put the drive back into production. I can't afford to have the database get corrupted again. Costs me 6 hours to restore it from backup and I got lucky that the corruption started in the middle of the night while it wasn't being used.

Manufacturer Response:

We sincerely apologize for the problem. Our support team was attempting to get you running again and avoid the inconvenience of the RMA. When you receive your replacement please visit our support forums at the link below. We will be happy to assist you with system setup to insure success in your application. 5 out of 5 eggsA world class consumer SSD.

Pros: - It's the single fastest consumer SSD on the market. No other single consumer level SSD can touch its performance.

- Built in TRIM support (this is a RAID 0 device) using proprietary methods and controllers designed by OCZ. This means minimal performance degradation over time.

- Speeds are in line with the previous reviewers. I won't regurgitate their information.

- Functions as a boot device, provided that your motherboard supports boot devices from PCI-E.

Cons: - Sadly, the price per gigabyte is absolutely obscene.

- Windows boot times will generally be around 10 seconds longer when compared to an OCZ Vertex 3 (See other thoughts)

Other Thoughts: If you require very fast Windows 7 boot times, then you may want to consider purchasing an additional boot SSD (I recommend the Vertex 4). Do not expect lightning fast boot times. My machine boots from BIOS to desktop in around 50 seconds.

Once the device makes it past the Windows logo screen, the speed is superb and startup applications load very, very quickly.

I can only assume that this is due to driver initialization, operational checks, other hardware related delays.

Also, If you're coming from another high end single SSD, don't expect to notice crazy throughput gains unless you frequently transfer or process files that exceed 20+ GB.

5 out of 5 eggsInstallation is easy and drive is fast

Pros: Installing the RVD3MIX2-FHPX4-480G drive on windoews 2008 R2 SP1 was extremely easy. I used driver from OCZ site (I didn't use the driver that come on the CD with the drive)
Machine config -
I7-2700K at 4.5GHz (water cooled)
Asuz P8Z 68-V Pro/Gen
32 GB DDR3 (1600 MHz)
Bootable drive is OCZ Agility 3, 120GB
Data drive - OCZ RevoDrive 3 X2 Max IOPS RVD3MIX2-FHPX4-480G PCI-E 480GB PCI-Express 2.0 x4 MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
OS - Windows 2008R2 SP1 Enterprise Edition
Driver version downloded from OCZ site - ocz10xx-1.2.0.10490
I am using this drive as a fast data drive and NOT as bootable drive.
There is practically nothing complicated I needed to do. just downloaded and unzipped drives files from OCZ site, ran the setup.exe that comes in the .ZIP file. It goes thru a 3-4 steps wizard. It just does this installation in less than 15 sec.

Cons: Very Expensive for a consumer class product

Other Thoughts: This drive is fast, but it is niche product. I already had corsair force3 and ocz agility 3, so didn't find breathtaking diff in speed. I'll update after some use again.
If use have latest MOBOs, CPUs, and OC versions, the installation is really easy.
