2 out of 5 eggsStalls on Windows 7 Startup

This review is from: OCZ VTX460-25SAT3-240G 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Flash Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) - Retail

Pros: Is pretty fast. If it boots, it run ok.

Cons: Had this installed with Windows 7 32 bit as a secondary drive in a dual boot operation. Only booted to this drive about once a week. About 75 % of the time, the drive stalled at the Windows boot screen. If I rebooted the drive a second time, it would load properly. It was as if the drive had gone to sleep and would not wake up on the first boot. Used Acronis to clone a Plextor ssd and it works fine, so it is not the OS.

5 out of 5 eggsWhats not to like?

This review is from: OCZ VTX460-25SAT3-240G 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Flash Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) - Retail

Pros: Failed to see that OCZ bundled a version of Acronis with this drive when I bought it. Surprise! Made my transfer of Windows 8.1 on a 500gb drive to the 240gb drive easy!
(as a side note, the recovery partition from the 500gb drive still booted and worked after the whole transfer)

Cons: I did not buy two?!

3 out of 5 eggsFollow up

This review is from: OCZ VTX460-25SAT3-240G 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Flash Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) - Retail

Pros: Faster than 7200 RPM HDD

Cons: Slower then another SSD drive I have.

Other Thoughts: My Dell Latitude E620 comes with a Samsung 128 GB SSD that scores 206.2 MB/sec for Average transfer rate using HD Tune 2.55.

This SSD is inside my Gaming laptop Asus G73JH and scores 150.8 MB/sec.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Mario M.,

Thank you very much for purchasing the Vertex 460; it is a wonderful SSD that will serve you well for a long time! Thank you also for sharing additional feedback. Piecing together information from your original feedback on December 2, 2014 with this new information, I am able to explain the WEI score of 7.7 and the Hard Disk Tune 2.55 performance. The ASUS G73JH notebook is based on the Intel HM55 chipset, which has an older SATA 3Gb/s controller. Even though the drive is a SATA 6Gb/s device, it will be bandwidth limited by the SATA 3Gb/s controller of the HM55 chipset. WEI will measure accordingly and cap the overall score. Regarding the scores you observed with HD Tune 2.55: while some newer versions of HD Tune have offered some SSD support, older versions are not recommended for SSD testing. We recommend testing with ATTO, Crystal Disk Mark, or IOMeter 2010. With any of those you should see maximum sequential performance ranging from 200-250MB/s on the HM55 mobile chipset.

I am more than happy to elaborate or answer any additional questions you may have. You can contact me anytime using the email address listed on my original feedback response!

Best Regards,

Robert

5 out of 5 eggsFast!

This review is from: OCZ VTX460-25SAT3-240G 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Flash Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) - Retail

Pros: Epic Black Friday sale price!!! Clone from a full 120GB SSD drive to this drive took 15 minutes. (Ubuntu Live system using dd command, then EASEUS Partition Manager for partition resizing after reboot.)
Came with a 5.25" bracket and screws.

Cons: None. Hopefully it will stay that way. Umm, does not come with SATA cable (but that is noted in the description.)

Other Thoughts: It was tough to choose between this 240GB and a 480GB which had very similar $ per GB cost. I went with this as it was sub $100 and the other was $200 (I had already spent enough on other things). And 240GB is enough for an Operating System and various programs that must be installed on the C: drive.

1 out of 5 eggsslow drives and horrible customer service

This review is from: OCZ VTX460-25SAT3-240G 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Flash Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) - Retail

Pros: cheap

Cons: slower sequential benchmarks than my HDD.
Dealing with OCZ techsupport is excruciatingly painful. I have a gigabyte MOBO with SATA3 ports. Its a 4 year old board, but it definately supports SATA 3 6 Gbps. Placing 2 of the vertex 460 drives in a RAID 0 configuration, produced results that far less than what they should be. 110 on sequential read/write and 16 on random read/write. Sequential should have easily been 500, 600 or higher.

Trying to get assistance from OCZ has been slow and painful, and far less than helpful, so far.

Other Thoughts: I really want these drives to work, I got a really good black friday price on them, but I have a tough time swallowing that their sequential times are 50% slower than my old 7200 RPM HDD.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear John,

I am sorry you have had a difficult experience with the Vertex 460 and our technical support. I would be happy to assist you with this. A single Vertex 460, regardless of chipset, should have sequential read/write much higher than 110MB/s under any circumstance. Even if your motherboard has a limited add-on SATA 6Gb/s controller if should perform much faster than 110MB/s when sequential write is tested.

Please contact me directly about this using the email address below. In your correspondance please include your ticket number so I can gather your system details and history; that will help me expedite a resolution.

On behalf of OCZ, I apologize for the difficulty.

Kind Regards,

Robert

5 out of 5 eggsBlack Friday GOLD

This review is from: OCZ VTX460-25SAT3-240G 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Flash Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) - Retail

Pros: -Fast at loading the games I have installed onto it.
-Gorgeous sitting next to my PNY XLR8 PRO 120GB boot drive.
-Smaller (and heavier) than my XLR8.
-Got it on Black Friday for a steal.

Cons: -The SATAIII cable isn't able to "click" in like for everything else.

Other Thoughts: -No other thoughts

4 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: OCZ VTX460-25SAT3-240G 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Flash Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) - Retail

Pros: Very solid SSD for the money. I bought this as my new primary Boot drive so I could do a fresh install and turn my HDD into a data disk. As with any modern disk drive, installation is a breeze. Now with the fresh install my boot time is about 10 seconds versus 35 with the HDD. As long as the sale prices are on this makes a very good option for price v. performance.

Cons: The Acronis software is a nice thought, but didn't want to work for migrating the OS. As I was planning a fresh install, this didn't matter to me, but I want to ensure that anyone considering this drive doesn't rely on this software as part of their purchase decision.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Drive, beat my expectations.

This review is from: OCZ VTX460-25SAT3-240G 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Flash Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) - Retail

Pros: Works as advertised. Extremely fast. Comes with 3.5" adapter. Comes with an older version of Acronis True Image for migrating to the new drive.

Cons: I got a fantastic deal on black Friday but, had I paid full price I would have to list that as the only con so far. By far not the cheapest drive but, then again it's not the most expensive either.

Other Thoughts: I've only had the drive a short time but, the time that I have had it it's been flawless. I honestly wasn't expecting much since my setup before was using a 32Gb SSD as a cache drive via Intel's Smart Response Technology which is in itself a huge improvement over a stand alone 7200 RPM mechanical drive. I was really blown away by how much of a performance increase can be realized with just an SSD drive, even over a hybrid-ish setup. Best bang for the buck upgrade you can do since a mechanical hard drive is usually the bottle neck on most current systems.

If my feelings change or I run into problems in the future then I will come and revise my review accordingly.
