5 out of 5 eggsOCZ treats their customers well

This review is from: OCZ ARC 100 ARC100-25SAT3-240G 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Great upgrade if you are looking for an easy speed improvement.

Cons: Didn't like the fact that the first drive I received was so bad and only lasted a bit over 30 days.

Other Thoughts: I previously wrote the review for this product "Crash. Freeze. Dead." I contacted OCZ shortly after and I have to say I am extremely impressed with their Customer Service. They acted fast and had a RMA issued the next day with a shipment out the door in less than 24 hours for a replacement. I really liked the fact that I didn't have to pay the return shipment out of pocket. It has good warranty coverage and the new drive I received is working great. A+ in handling this kind of situation.

Be sure to upgrade your firmware when you get this to prolong its life!

5 out of 5 eggsExactly as advertised.

This review is from: OCZ ARC 100 ARC100-25SAT3-240G 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Fast, cheap, Toshiba.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: According to most professional reviews these ARC drives perform equally to much more expensive prosumer choices for a significantly lower price - so far, this has been my experience.

I have also never had any issues with either OCZ or Toshiba drives, so I am quite confident in the long term stability of this device.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great!!

This review is from: OCZ ARC 100 ARC100-25SAT3-240G 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Got it for a great price of 59.99! I've had this for about 2 months now and so far it's been great. Boots to desktop in 15 seconds from the pc being completely off.

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: The primary reason I purchased this vs a Samsung was the price I got it for. Although I can't say anything bad about it thus far. Its my first SSD.

1 out of 5 eggsCrash, Freeze, and dead.

This review is from: OCZ ARC 100 ARC100-25SAT3-240G 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Speed...I guess

Cons: Like over people have said in the reviews: this drive constantly crashes and freezes, and now my PC no longer detects the drive. It started failing after the 30 day mark...

5 out of 5 eggsDon't be ripped off for a rebate

This review is from: OCZ ARC 100 ARC100-25SAT3-240G 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Rebates are pitas but they can reduce your costs if you do them right.

Cons: You don't have to be ripped off on a rebate. Here are nine simple steps to play the rebate game & win every time:

1. Always pay w/a credit card (CC), especially if you use PayPal. Otherwise you have no recourse. Whether it's an unpaid rebate or an auction item that's not as advertised when it arrives, PP will say, "Tough stuff," if you paid from your bank account or w/a debit card.

2. Follow the rebate requirements religiously. Dot every "i" & cross every "t" without fail. Any error or missing item can result in a denied claim & you'll be stuff out of luck. It's just a waste of time if you're not gonna do it right.

3. Make copies of everything & send your claim w/some form of tracking. You must be able to prove the claim was delivered to the processor.

4. A rebate is part of the contract of sale, so if you have proof of delivery & copies of what you sent, you can dispute the CC charge if the rebate processor tries to shaft you. Complain to the processor & the merchant just once. Then initiate a dispute. No mercy! No slack!

5. Be polite but persistent. Reps won't help if you're a jerk. Praise the merchant, plead your case & don't take no for an answer. Let them know you paid w/a CC & will have to dispute the charge if the processor rips you off. Merchants hate CC disputes & may very well compensate you to avoid one.

6. Check your CC issuer's terms & know exactly how long you have to open a dispute. You can do it on the phone or online w/many issuers. Some say within 60 days after the purchase. Others say 60 days after it appeared on your statement. The terms do vary & you must know yours.

7. You'll get a temporary credit pending the dispute's resolution but the issuer may make it permanent w/o waiting for the merchant to respond. It depends on your account. They look at your dispute & payment histories, your account's age, your monthly charges, etc. They often credit small amounts (under $50 usually) & close the case to save their employees' time.

8. Merchants & rebate processors are hip to credit card disputes. They know the time to file most of them is 60 days. That's why rebate payment delivery times are seldom less than eight weeks & often 10-12.

9. No problem. CC disputes take time too. If you don't get confirmation that your rebate was received & is valid in a reasonable time (30 days is my max), contact the processor & merchant once. Then open a dispute right before your CC issuer's deadline. The issuer will send you a letter asking for documentation & giving you a deadline to reply. Wait as long as possible -- but not too long! -- to send it. You want the processor's payment deadline to pass while your dispute is being adjudicated.

Do it right, persevere & don't let anyone rip you off!

Good luck,
Dilly

Other Thoughts: I was once a frequent rebater but they're tedious & I seldom buy anything that has one these days. However, I never lost a dime to an unpaid rebate in more than 90 claims over 12+ years.

5 out of 5 eggsReview of Product Itself

This review is from: OCZ ARC 100 ARC100-25SAT3-240G 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Placed into my newly built PC, I had boot up time from power-on to desktop fully loaded in 15 seconds. Nice! Has been running stable and have been experiencing as stated read/write rates. Its been running exactly like it should *Crosses fingers that Murphy is not reading this*

Cons: none at this point. Stable, easy to use.

1 out of 5 eggsJust when you thought it was safe to buy OCZ?

This review is from: OCZ ARC 100 ARC100-25SAT3-240G 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: OK Speed

Cons: Dead in less than 90 days!
Have to replace with another OCZ which will be dumped on FleBay
Would not take a chance on putting it in another System.

Other Thoughts: I thought that being purchased by Toshiba would improve the reliability of the OCZ Brand.
Just like the old OCZ days dead in less than 90 days.
Don't be pulled in by the fact that Toshiba purchased the Brand. They are still manufactured by OCZ and are not worth a plug nickel. Junk is always junk, does not matter who owns it! I deployed over 200 SSDs in the last 12 months and this has been the only failure.
Stick with Intel & Samsung, avoid any OCZ, unless you want to lose your DATA prematurely.
Do not be sucked in by the Toshiba name, it means nothing.
OCZ is still the least reliable name in SSDs

4 out of 5 eggsFaster

This review is from: OCZ ARC 100 ARC100-25SAT3-240G 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Windows index jumped to 7.5 from 7.4, not a big deal but it's faster. Old SSD was a smaller OCZ Octane.

Cons: Why only 240GB, not 256GB?

Other Thoughts: I tried to clone my C: drive using the SSD in two different working external hard drive enclosures. One was ESATA and the other was USB. I could see the SSD in Disk Management, but it would not activate and could not be formatted. Finally I installed it in my tower and it worked. I had used those same enclosures to clone two other SSDs. Never called tech support so I don't really know what the issue was.
