4 out of 5 eggscheck motherboard ram specs

Pros: I gave it a 4 star because honestly I did not check the motherboards ram specs and this stick was not compatible with the a older mobo that could not read 1GB sticks so to not bash this product I give it a four and just remind everyone don't mess up like I did and not check mobo ram specs and think it will work anyways

Cons: Grandma had to wait another week for a new stick that was compatible lol

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: It works.

Cons: Some computers just can't be saved.

Other Thoughts: tried to revive my mom's old laptop... It kinda worked... but not enough. CPU just max loads but at doesn't freeze up now.
Just make sure your processor isn't too far outdated.

4 out of 5 eggsDell Inspiron 1200

Pros: It worked. It continues to work. No drama or complaints: opened the memory bay on the bottom of an ancient notebook, insert memory, boot, notification memory amount changed, continue to login. Has worked flawlessly since Aug 2010. Never even have to think about it.

I have bought G.SKILL memory exclusively for three years now. I'm careful which lines of memory I buy (from any vender), so it's almost exclusively from their better offerings, but at least 20 sets of G.SKILL RAM are in my systems and systems of people I've helped out. Not one single complaint or failure of any kind. All of it was plug and play, except for a couple of modern motherboards that made me set the speed manually, and that is the fault of the motherboard manufacturers. Some of my G.SKILL is overclocked and had the timings pushed down, with no or minimal overvolting. All stable. G.SKILL rocks hard & solid.

Cons: Quite a bit pricey for 1 GB of 333 DDR PC2700 ($42 at the time of purchase). I could get 8 GB of DDR3 1833 memory these days for less than that. Even considering the rarity & age of this tech, it should be closer to half that price.

But, you need, you gonna pay.

Other Thoughts: Notebook came from Dell with 256 MB on-board memory plus a single open slot that cannot take a chip larger than 1024 MB. So, this system is max'd @1280 MB of RAM, and probably mixed specifications so it doesn't get the performance boost of matched DDR channels.

Despite that, it doesn't do too bad as a WinXP system w/ a 2.4 GHz Celeron. Only used for light websurfing and gmail plus other similar low-resource tasks, a great little print and email + basic docs center in the corner of the kitchen. I stripped out all the unnecessary bloatware and it boots to running 23 processes using ~220 mb RAM, including Avast! anti-virus running live scanning in the background for malware & viruses.

Just a quiet, sweet little machine with a 30 GB hard drive. Runs Open Office Write, Calc & Draw just fine, although a bit slowly on occasion. FoxIt PDF Reader uses a fraction of the Adobe Acrobat Reader resources ... so, just delete all that Adobe bloatware and save yourself the aggravation.

I had OpenSuse linux running very lean on it for a while, quite a bit quicker than Windows. But, reverted for the convenience of other users.

Why all this chitchat? It was a very well-invested $40 for this memory. The computer was nearly thrown into an electronics waste & salvage bin in July 2010. The memory upgrade was sufficient to get a streamlined installation running and saved the cost of a new computer for two years so far. The way it's running, I expect it to provide service for at least another two, especially since it has now come back into my possession and will get some lightweight linux installation now, or perhaps even a PC-BSD install.

Take care of your tech, people, and it will take care of you.

Dear Customer

Thank you for your G.Skill purchase and review. Glad to hear the memory has been working for many years in your laptop. Increasing memory capacity to an older computer can be extremely beneficial. It can greatly reduce any lag or delays previously experienced. With regards to pricing, unfortunately we do not control it, it is based on global supply and demand. For any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us directly.

5 out of 5 eggsWish MY memory was this good..

Pros: Immediately recognized by my lappy. G. Skill quality! New life to an aging laptop... Perfect for older laptops.

Cons: Doesn't help me get a GF...?

Other Thoughts: Bought this for a Dell Inspiron 2200 that was given to me. It's an older lappy, but it was FREE so... It originally had 250 Mb (I know, right. Lame!) and was waaaaayyyy slooooowwww. Installed this memory and (bam!) it's like a whole other lappy. A lot faster. Also, I have G. Skill in my 2 other desktop builds and LOVE it. Never had an issue with G. Skill memory...

4 out of 5 eggsHas worked for 4 years

Pros: This memory has been plugging along on my Linux Laptop for 4 years with no issues. It is a machine I use for testing and interfacing with servers and it has ran great for 4 years since I replaced the stock RAM.

Cons: I got better speed out of the RAM that was installed. I benchmarked both and the G Skill came out about 6% lower.

Manufacturer Response:
