Practical info
- Pros: N/A
- Cons: N/A
- Other Thoughts: Just wanted to share my experience with others, this is my 2nd review here. My platform is GA-55M-UD2 with 8GB of this memory, running Ubuntu 9.10. No overclocking and all voltages auto-set.
The system with 8GB used to freeze unexpectedly. I was running Memtest for long hours - no errors. Switched to the 2x2GB mode and absolutely no freezes. With two other sticks (still 2x2GB) also no issues. Only 4x2GB did not work.
Then I read (on gskill forums) about testing the sticks individually - that's how I found one of the sticks was bad. 4x2GB or even 2x2GB - no errors with memtest. Please test sticks individually placing them in slot 0. To get the most recent version of Memtest86 (ver 4.0) you could download the OpenSuse 11.2 Live CD. Other Linux distros still come with older versions. And even memtest's web page seems not to be up to date.
It still great memory, I just was not that lucky. Already got a replacement set from newegg and the new sticks passed all tests fine
Unstable on a Gigabyte GA-MA790XT-UD4P
- Pros: Well priced DDR3-1333 memory. Other reviews suggest instabilities on Gigabyte AMD3 motherboards.
- Cons: Gigabyte GA-MA790XT-UD4P
2 x F3-10666CL8D-4GBHK (i.e. 8gb as 4x2gb sticks) Phenom X2 955 ATI Radeon 4870
Many BSOD and instabilities in Windows 7, both 64bit and 32bit versions. These RC builds had been 100% stable on my other machine AMD machine with different brand of RAM (Crucuial).
Changed the g.skill memory speed in BIOS from 1333 to 1066Mhz and has been stable since, however memory is meant to run at 1333Mhz. Memory Diagnostic tests return no issues.
Very disappointed with my first experience of g.skill. Looks like issue is linked to the Gigabyte UD3P and UD4P motherboards based on other posts.
- Other Thoughts: As mentioned by others, this RAM defaults to 9-9-9-24, manually changing it to its designated 8-8-8-21 improved performance.
Would like g.skill to test on this motherboards and confirm back a resolution to allow use at 1333Mhz as rated.

Manufacturer Response:. Dear Customer We apologize for the inconvenience. It is not guaranteed that two sets will work on the same motherboard. Although your motherboard has 4 slots and can operate DDR3 1333, it may have issues actually running a full 8GB at 1333 because it can cause a memory controller overload. Some have been successful by increasing Northbridge to 1.4V, FSB to 1.4V, and HT Voltages to 1.3V, but this is not guaranteed and may require further adjustments in the BIOS. If you would like assistance configuring your memory, please contact our techincal support department and they will be able to assist you. Thank you GSKILL SUPPORT Quality and customer service are our top priorities. Tech Support Email: ustech@gskill.com RMA Dept Email: rma@gskill.com G.SKILL Forum: http://www.gskill.com

Good Ram
- Pros: Works just fine for me. motherboard picked it up just fine at its advertised timing. Has been in my new setup for almost a month, running windows 7 pro with no hiccups. Does what it needs to.
- Cons: none
It Works
- Pros: - Worked like a charm out of the box. I have not run Memtest on them, but having run through some newer games on the system without any stability issues I have to assume it is working good enough for my purposes.
- The blue heat spreaders make these chips look nice, especially on the blue and black MSI 790FX board.
- The retail box packaging is fancy, if you're into that kind of thing. Give g.skill some props for making the box look sweet.
- Cons: - Memory timing set from SPD is more conservative than this RAM is advertised. It would be nice if factories would ship the RAM with SPDs that accurately refect what speed the RAM is sold at. I haven't set timing for DDR3 before so I need to do a little research before I change the timing in the BIOS to the advertised settings.
- Other Thoughts: I had this and my other components shipped Fedex Priority. Don't know if it makes a difference or not, but with all the stories I hear I hesitate to have anything sensitive shipped UPS.
One week in everything looks good. System- MSI 790FX-GD70 AMD Phenom II 955 (3.2GHz) 8.0 GB G.Skill 1333 MHz DDR3 DRAM ATI HD 5870 Corsair HX 750 Watt PSU
Works as advertised
- Pros: Nice and fast. No problems starting up. I dont overclock either, so it works for me
- Cons: none
- Other Thoughts: I have a gigabyte UD3P board. I read some things about the ram not working, but mines fine
