4 out of 5 eggsgreat RAM

Pros: Great RAM I have upgraded to a 8GB but this RAM is still kicking in my backup PC.

Cons: none

Manufacturer Response:

.
Dear Customer

Thank you for your G.Skill purchase and review. Glad to hear this memory is working flawlessly in your backup PC. This is a high frequency DDR2 memory kit so the performance should be very nice. With 4GB, the 'backup' PC can surely get jobs done. Whether for gaming, multitasking, or word processing, you should not experience any lag or delays. For any questions or concerns, feel free to contact us directly.

Thank you

1 out of 5 eggsNothing but issues

Pros: Price, if it works. There has been not a good thing about this ram for me to speak about.

Cons: Every time I take the side of the case off and get the dust off, the computer will not start. After every cleaning it takes about two hours to start the computer, does not get to the windows screen. If I take the ram out it will start up for a few minutes and be in windows then bluescreen. Even while the ram is tuned down. I have a Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P, and this mix has not been even average. ram is tuned down below 800mhz, in the 600mhz range, and still seeing how reliable this will be.

Other Thoughts: Spend more and buy a different brand of ram. Hopefully somebody can tell me a trick to get this to work as described?? And then I could correct my review and put the proper information in for future users.

Dear Customer

We are sorry to hear you are having issues setting up this memory properly. Please make sure DRAM Frequency is set to DDR2-1066, DRAM Timings tCL 6 - tRCD 6 - tRP 6 - tRAS 18 - Command Rate 2, DRAM Voltage 2.0V. Once that is complete, everything should run fine. If not, test them individually to determine whether one may be defective. If you continue to have issues and nee d further assistance, simply contact our technical support department and they will be more than glad to assist you.

4 out of 5 eggsdecent, but can't clock to 1066

Pros: Cheap - i got it when it was on sale for $49.99 for 4Gb (2x2Gb) and got two packs for just under $100.

Cons: Won't run at the stated 1066.
I paired it with a Phenom 9600 x64 and, as many people have figured out, has almost no overclocking capability.
Even setting the timings and setting it to 1066 results in a blue screen on start up.
I have to run at 800MHz, which disappoints me.

Other Thoughts: Not running at the advertised price isn't too much of a con, which only results in a loss of 1 egg. Nevertheless, I'm still upset about paying extra for the supposed "higher speed" than the otherwise cheaper RAM.

Dear Customer

We are sorry to hear you are having an issue setting up the memory for your system. Please make sure DRAM Frequency is set to DDR2-1066, DRAM timings tCL 6 - tRCD 6 - tRP 6 - tRAS 18 - Command Rate 2, DRAM Voltage 2.0V. In addition, depending on your motherboard and CPU, you may need to make further adjustments to stabilize DDR2-1066. If you continue to have issues, please feel free to contact our technical support deaprtment and they will be able to get your system running smoothly.

5 out of 5 eggsIt works if you know what you are doing

Pros: It may state that it only works with intel chips but I have run it on two different AMD boards with three different CPUs. I runs fine on an Asrock Nvidia 780a SLI board @ 1066 and can overclock to 1080 stable. This is with a Phenom II 720 and 945C3. The board I am running them on now is an Asrock AMD 785g crossfire with the 945 CPU. Runs at specs. Of coarse I am an overclocker, so I downclocked the memory to 800mhz and overclocked the processor to 3.36ghz, 240fsb, 5,5,15,26 timings, 960 mhz, 7.7 actual gbits per second. This runs two passes of memtest without error, I set the voltage at 2.02.

Cons: I have not found many, might run a little warm, but not a problem if you have good air flow. Little overclocking potential if you run at 1066, but that is not really a con.

Other Thoughts: The first processor and mobo I tried this on was an AMD Athlon64X2 5400 Black edition. I could not reach 1066 with this CPU, but that is a limitation of that CPU series. The Mobo was the Asrock Nvidia 780a SLI board, which again was able to reach spec and a little beyond when I changed the CPU to the Phenom II 720 then the 945.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

Pros: Automatically detected and configured in my Gigabyte GA EP45-UD3R mothebroard, heat spreader, nice packaging.

Cons: Can't do laundry, darn!

Other Thoughts: A bit expensive but well designed and very compatible. Will buy two more sticks after I get my tax refund.

1 out of 5 eggsFollow up

Pros: See other thoughts. Follow up from my review posted on 1/14/2010 12:40:54 PM.

Cons: See other thoughts. Follow up from my review posted on 1/14/2010 12:40:54 PM.

Other Thoughts: Motherboard: P5Q SE/R
Ram: 4x 2Gb (obviously this model/package), so 8Gb total

Lately I've attempted to get this ram to work at 1066Mhz with all results ending in failure.

VERY loose timings, 1.4v NB, 2v RAM, and all the performance boosting settings disabled (making it as easy on the ram as possible) =
800Mhz - Stable, prime95 runs fine
850Mhz - Stable, prime95 runs fine
900Mhz - Stable, prime95 runs fine with 5-5-5-15 timings.
1000Mhz - Posts, blue screens when booting into windows
1066Mhz - Doesn't post at all

Disappointing to say the least. Bios is up to date. PSU is MORE than enough and is providing plenty of power on all rails. And it's sitting behind a nice fat UPS which helps scrubs the current from the wall to the pc and stablizes it further.

I've read the guides, done all the available tweaks. This ram won't go to 1066.

It's really disappointing since only recently have I attempted to try for 1066 and am realizing it can't be reached.

4 out of 5 eggsGood ram, but be aware

Pros: Had 2 sticks of this running in an AMD setup for a year at 1066Mhz without an issue, rock solid.

Cons: Added 2 more sticks (8 GB total) and it was not having that at 1066Mhz, and definitely not with 6-6-6-18 timings. Totaly unstable. Dropped to 800Mhz with 5-5-5-15 timings and now its running like a champ.

95 bucks for ram is ridiculous, supply and demand be dammed.

Other Thoughts: This is good ram, just be aware of what it can and cannot do.

Manufacturer Response:

.
Dear Customer

Thank you for your G.Skill purchase and review. Adding two more sticks may be overloading your memory controller, causing it to be unstable. To counter this problem, simply increase the NB Voltage to 1.40V. Also, depending on your specific motherboard, it may have a one DIMM per channel limitation, so in that case you would not be able to operate 8GB at DDR2-1066. If you have any further questions, or need assistance, please feel free to contact us directly.

3 out of 5 eggsDDR2 1066; Only Work @ 800 Speeds

Pros: Good RAM, Decently Priced, Gets the job done.

Cons: Doesn't run at full speeds on my GIGABYTE GA-MA780G-UD3H, only runs at 800 speeds, not the full 1066.

Other Thoughts: Although it says Intel Chipsets only, it will work with AMD chipsets, apparently not at full speeds though. I've updated my BIOS and it still doesn't work. I wish I would have read the part where it stated Intel Chipsets only before I bought them.

Manufacturer Response:
