3 out of 5 eggsSolid for 3 years

Pros: G.Skill honored an RMA request to fix a firmware problem but I don't think the replacement was a 'new' unit
Held to 90% MFR specs all the way up til it started failing

Cons: Lasted 3 years and now data corruption is occurring daily. Did diagnostics from all utility software I could find, even tools from G.Skill engineers - nope. Its out of warranty and its out of life. Shame

Other Thoughts: It was a decent drive til it became unreliable and since this was a OS drive which also held VMware data - I can't afford data corruption so I'm replacing it. Out of fairness and the fact G.Skill has likely improved over the past 3 years - I won't say what I'm replacing it with - suffice to say, its not another G.Skill.

I gave it 3 eggs because I have 1st-Gen Intel SSD's from ~2008 that are still going strong, and show no signs of data corruption. It will happen to them sooner or later, but they are 4+ years older and this one didn't even last that long. Something to be said about that.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer

We are sorry to hear the SSD is defective. Due to garbage files over time, the SSD may need to be refreshed with a secure erase program. A utility such as Parted Magic can help recover the lost performance of the SSD by wiping the drive back to new condition. Here is a link to the utility:

http://www.gskill.us/forum/showthread.php?t=6829

Please use that to see if it eliminates data corruption. For any further questions or issues, feel free to contact us directly or join the Official G.Skill Forum.

1 out of 5 eggsheadaches

Pros: fast

Cons: this is my second time the hard drive has crashed !! really upset.. lost important data.. feel like not opening the replacement ssd and selling it

Other Thoughts: macbook pro late 08' unibody ... mac users that own this product good luck.. you will need it... back up your data asap

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer

We are sorry to hear that your Titan SSD is defective. It is rare that two drives will go defective, but it does happen. Make sure to properly set partitions and reduce defragmenting as that may cause the SSD drive to be corrupted. Many times the computer will have its AUTO hard drive tasks and those should be disanbled as they may not be optimal for SSD drives. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us and we will be glad to assist you.

1 out of 5 eggsWaste of 3k

Pros: fast when they work

Cons: Bought 6 drives 3 months ago. 3 have failed. Not designed for enterprise use.

Other Thoughts: $600 is too much for these.

Manufacturer Response:

.
Dear Customer

We apologize for the inconvenience and are sorry to hear that the SSD drives you purchased are not working properly. It is odd that 3 of 6 drives have failed, but that is the reason why all of our SSD drives carry a 2 year warranty for these types of situations. If you need RMA replacement assistance, please visit our website for complete RMA procedures.

Also, here are some registry tweaks to enhance the performance of your drives. By completing these tweaks, your computer is better optimized for SSD use. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us and we will be glad to assist you.

1 out of 5 eggsReally sucks

Pros: Cheap

Cons: No support, No firmware update.
The drive is built for testing only, In practical use, the performance is really really bad. specially compared to Intel's SSD.

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible!

Pros: Fast reads

Cons: Terrible random write performance. I have two of these and both lock up (the famous "stutter") for several seconds at a time and you can do nothing. Tried using Windows Steady State utility (recommended on several sites) and it indeed does eliminates this problem but at the expense of having queue writes to boot up but you get hosed if your system crashes in the mean time.

Other Thoughts: This product and most other SSD drives out there use a Jmicron controller JMF602 that is the root of this problem. I also have an Intel X25-M which has never exhibited this behavior. The Intel just works and delivers the promise of SSD. It's fast and doesn't stutter. I am replacing these junk Titan drives with the Intel versions.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsVery good

Pros: 1. Very fast boot time,. faster reads. Writing seems faster too. I had to install the SSD on my own since I have a older Macbook Pro. It was quite easy. Reinstalling the OS was very simple too. To those who have a time capsule device, backup your machine in its entirety and then after switching the HDD for an SSD, do a retrieve. It is that simple.

Cons: As of this point nothing very significant( other than the price).

Other Thoughts: I use Windows Server 2003 in a vmware fusion session and yes, Visual studio opens up very quickly and so does the dreadful oracle SQL Developer.

4 out of 5 eggsPretty good ssd

Pros: Fast, instant program load in osx and xp, great boot times in osx and bootcamp on my unibody 15 inch.

Cons: Runs hot sometimes, was a nightmare to install with the leopard dvd. The device profiler recognized the drive but not in disk utility. Had to installusing an usb enclosure. This seems to be a common problem with this drive.

Other Thoughts: This is a great value despite my almost 24 hours of trying to install osx. In my hd tach benchmarks i've hit almost 250 MB/s

1 out of 5 eggsI never review anything... but this drive is wacky

Pros: It's Big.. It's Fast.

Cons: Where do i start...
- it's not 256 it's 234 GB
- it runs hotter than any other ssd i've tried...
- uncached writes are 5x slower than the intel
- IT WAS A NIGHTMARE TO INSTALL ON OSX - the os x bootdisk didn't recognize it inside my macbook pro
- It still doesn't show up when booting from the mac osx boot disk... I had to clone my existing disk to get it to work. OS X recognizes it while running... but not from boot.

Other Thoughts: garbage for the money i paid... and the fact that i can't return it for a refund is stupid.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsStill Running Great

Pros: Runs great with 64 Bit XP.

I'm using this box in a production CAD/Engineering SBServer environment. You have to experience the load times to believe them. The benchmarks are fun, but working on the machine is the real pleasure.

Just move all your swap, temp, docs and settings to the secondary mechanical drive.

Make sure you move your docs and settings before loading up your box with software, or you'll have to get intimate with your registry. :-)

Cons: Man ! ! ! It's still expensive. LOL
