1 out of 5 eggsSounded like a good idea.....

Pros: Cheap, fast, silent and runs cool.

Cons: Within 4 months drive went bad. RMA'd received new drive seemed fine. 2 weeks later it hangs, reinstalled OS and working. 3 Months later drive hangs for no reason at all. Was unable to reinstall OS(unable to read from source) due to something in drive not writing properly. Contacted Gskill support and was basically told nothing except a link to a forum (as they don't even post support files on their own site) and here is the kicker.... "The warranty period wil lbe the same, but we will commonly give more time if multiple RMAs were done." I don't know about you guys but multiple RMA's are NEVER a solution, nor wanted! I have had great success with Intel SSD's and thought this would be a good purchase, boy was I wrong... Now I look like a fool recommending this to a great customer.

Other Thoughts: Intel offers a optimization utility for their SSD. Gskill offers a format utility. Things that make you go hmmmmmm.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer

We are sorry to hear you are having issues with the SSD. Please make sure to enable AHCI for SATA mode in BIOS. Without this change, the SSD will not be treated properly and can be degraded over time. All G.Skill SSD information is listed on the Official G.Skill forum. Feel free to join for the latest updates and discussion. With regards to the optimization utilities, they are all for the same purpose, but some may be more user friendly than others. For any further questions or issues, please feel free to contact us directly.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Super fast drive. Using in desktop for the OS (Win7) and it has never put a foot wrong. I absolutely love it!

Cons: Got one for my laptop, seeing as how the standard drive died on me (figured it had something to do with having it in my backpack while biking to campus) so i got another of these for my lappy. 6 months later, going to open the internet, it completely stops, restart it, and find that the drive is dead. RMA'd it, and just waiting for it to get here (any day now)

Other Thoughts: Great drive, great company and good service, but i feel that i should not have had to replace one within 6 months.

Manufacturer Response:

3 out of 5 eggsWHAT A SHAME!!!

Pros: This drive is amazingly fast and GSKILL makes the instalation of Win7 64 with TRIM a snap! All that needs to be done is enable AHCI after the O/S is installed and Win7 does the rest. If you want to get more detailed, thats up to you. I was loving everything about this purchase, was actually logging on to buy the 120gb model and WHAM!!!

Cons: The first and last sound I herd from the SSD was this nasty grinding sound! At first I thought it was the secondary HDD being there are moving parts, but to my suprise, it is the SSD!, odd! Anyhow, great device if it lasted longer then a few weeks.

Other Thoughts: Been reading all over the place of these SSD failing. Not just from GSKILL, but all major companies. I think once one of them get the realiabity factor down, they have a homerun product that everyone will be buying! I know I will!

3 out of 5 eggsWHAT A SHAME!!!

Pros: SSD is extremly fast and GSKILL makes it so simple to install windows 7 64 properly on the drive its a joke! All you have to do is make sure you are set to AHCI and have the windows drivers for it, not Intel and Win 7 does the rest! It all depends how detailed you want to get with the file/folder locations towards a secondary HDD, but no need too.

Cons: I was so impressed with how everything was working, the WHAM!!! GRIND GRIND GRIND. Of course this happens after I spent the whole day putting each folder path to the secondary drive. At firsat I tought nothing of the SSD, becasue there are no moving parts, thought it was the HDD.. I was dead wrong! No everytime I turn the PC on, the SSD makes this grinding sound, very odd.. Anyhow, besides the failure, which is a big besides, this drive was working great!

Other Thoughts: I noticed there have been allot of GSKILL drives failing on NEWEGG, something going on with your drives???

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Extremly fast SSD

Cons: Not as relyable as I thought it would be after doing research. Have the SSD as the boot drive and a 1TB HDD as the secondary, but there seems to be a bunch of uneccassary crashes. Not as relyable as I thought it would be after doing research. Have the SSD as the boot drive and a 1TB HDD as the secondary, but there seems to be a bunch of uneccassary crashes. Most of the time simply exiting the browser will casue a system hang. If speed is what you are shooting for, then having to wait for windows to correct a simple browser hang defeats the whole purpose! Also, windows keeps hanging because of display drivers crashing. These where issues I where not dealing with prior to the SSD. It would be nice if there where instructions on how to setup the SSD folder options properly. Most instalations of an SSD are going to be accompained by a larger secondary HDD instalation then configuration. I am not sure if it is the instalation of win 7 causing the issues or the actual GSKILL SSD? Being this

Other Thoughts: my first instalation of this type of media, and there is no step by step to install windows, I’m pretty sure there is something I am missing. I know it’s staright forward install, but there is something not configured properly! I have done plenty of research how this is to be done, and this is the 14th time, re-instaling win7 fresh with the same issues. GSKILL, can someone explain to me how this is to be done corectly please! This way if I know I am doing correct, then the issue lies somewhere else. Thank you!
Steve

3 out of 5 eggsDecent drive overall

Pros: Fast drive, decently priced., it's not OCZ.

Cons: Failed after 6 months, G.Skill is fast with RMA but it's still not cool that I had too in the first place. Drive just stopped being recognized with no symptoms of imminent failure.

Other Thoughts: Replacement drive was screaming fast, I guess I hadn't realized how much the drive had degraded in just 6 months. But this isn't G.Skill's fault this happens with all SSD's so no extra eggs taken off for that. And no it wasn't just a placebo effect because of fresh OS install, I had just reinstalled the OS on the old drive only a few weeks before failure because I CPU/mobo/video card and wanted a fresh install for it.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer

We apologize for the inconvenience. We are sorry to hear the drive went bad. A replacement should work much better. Make sure to enable AHCI mode for SATA mode; this should enable TRIM with Windows 7 to maintain the SSD properly and reduce degradation. You should also check that it has the latest firmware for optimum performance. For all SSD information, please visit the Official G.Skill Forum.

5 out of 5 eggsSmooth like buttah.

Pros: PC boots in SECONDS.

Cons: Price vs capacity. It's like two dollars & fifty cents per Gigabyte as of Feb 2011, compared to a regular terabyte drive for six cents per gigabyte. If my math is correct that's over a four thousand percent difference.

Other Thoughts: I gave in and bought this as an experiment. Put windows and essential components ONLY on the SSD, install everything else to the other internal 500gb HDD.

Can't wait for the price of solid state memory to drop.
