Overview
It's Not the Fastest, Until It's TridentX!
Memory Frequency World Record at DDR3 4404MHz
TridentXBreaking the highest DDR3 speed world record at a staggering 4404MHzMHz in 2012, the G.SKILL TridentX series is known as the world's most powerful and fastest DDR3 memory available on the market. Named after the powerful weapon of Poseidon, Greek God of the Seas, G.SKILL TridentX is imbued with extreme overclocking capabilities waiting to be unleashed in your system.
Removable Heat Spreader Fin
The G.SKILL TridentX series features a removable heat spreader fin to improve your cooling options. With the heat spreader fin, the increased surface area keeps the memory cooler. Alternatively, with a system that already has a sufficient cooling solution, the fins can be removed to accommodate massive CPU coolers or other customized cooling solutions.

The G.SKILL TridentX heat-spreader comes with removable top fin design. It allows overclocking enthusiasts to have more flexible options of memory cooling systems, as well as to reduce the height to fit with large CPU coolers.

Extreme Performance
Extreme overclockers and PC enthusiasts look no further, G.SKILL's TridentX DDR3 memory will push your system to an unimaginable limit. Not only available at ultra high frequencies of 2400MHz, 2600MHz, 2666MHz, 2800MHz and 3000MHz, but also available with extremely low timings at 2133MHz CL9, 1866MHz CL8, and 1600MHz CL7!
Intel XMP Support
TridentX All G.SKILL DDR3 memory comes with the latest Intel XMP standard developed for the Intel platform. It provides PC enthusiasts an entirely trouble-free overclocking experience to boost their 4th Gen Intel® Core™ processors with Intel 8 series systems for extreme levels of performance, while retaining system stability.

Lifetime Warranty
All G.SKILL memory products come with a lifetime warranty and the G.SKILL technical team is always ready to provide consumers with complete technical support via online forums, telephone, and email.

TridentX Editor's Choice at Techpowerup
If you follow my posts on the forums, you'll find that I consider myself one of Corsair's biggest fans, but those feelings were thrown completely out of whack when I received this kit from G.Skill. The G.Skill F3-2666C11Q-16GTXD kit managed to completely amaze me with its quality and clocking ability, and I fell in love after checking its price. You cannot find a 4 x 4GB 2666MHz kit for less right now unless it's been put on sale. This kit manages to overcome any performance deficiencies with flexibility and great overhead. At stock, I managed to beat out my trusty Corsair Dominator Platinum kit with a little bit of tweaking. Overclocked, the G.Skill F3-2666C11Q-16GTXD kit managed to go just as high without a boost in voltage. That is just outright fantastic.

TridentXEditor's Choice at Neoseeker
G. Skill's 2400 MHz Trident X kit put on an impressive display of performance, easily overcoming the competition in all but four of the benchmarks used. Unfortunately, the memory was bottlenecked by the processor -- limiting the overclock to a 104 bclk and leaving us with a final overclock of 2218MHz and timings of 10-12-12-31 2T. Paired with a 3rd generation Intel processor, G. Skill's 2400 MHz Trident X kit would have benefited greatly from the increased bandwidth and has the potential to hit 2500MHz with some fine tuning.

TridentXGold Award at OverClockersClub
G.Skill's Trident X line-up comes with kits that range from the 2400MHz kit we are looking at to a 2800MHz kit for massive memory speeds and the associated bandwidth that is a hallmark of higher speed bins. It seems that G.Skill is most definitely targeting the budget overclocker with this set of Trident X modules. A $99 price tag for 2400MHz-rated modules is a welcome sight after seeing huge price tags just a few months back for cas8 and 9 modules binned above 2133MHz. The Trident X are modules that perform well and deliver some overhead for a little bit more tweaking and come with G.Skill's lifetime warranty. Excellent looks aside, the Trident X would make a good addition to any system and have the flexibility to be cooled in multiple ways.

2 out of 5 eggsOverated, Overpriced Ram

Pros: Heatskinks seem to work. Though never really truly tested as rated 2400mhz never achieved.

Cons: 2X4gb Kit. JEDEC Specs as tested different from dimm 1 to dimm 2. System would not post with in dual channel mode (both dimms installed) in motherboard recommended dimm slots and or other dual channel slots.

Dimm 1 stable at SPD 1600mhz. Dimm 2 rarely stable at any specs. utilized motherboard feature to load failsafe memory settings and most of the time settings were at 1033 or 1600mhz.

Enabled XMP/DOCP and or Manual settings to adjust timings and voltages to attempt to acheive 2400mhz rated specs; system wouldn't post or would crash.

Motherboard LED codes = memory related errors.

JEDEC SPD specs different for both dimms.

Dimm 2 defective. System wouldn't post most of the time or if used motherboard failsafe memory diagnostic feature to recover safe settings often resulted in 1033 or 1600mhz. System would crash even with recovered failsafe settings.

Tested Dimms using different diagnostic test dimm 1 passed at SPD 1600mhz never at 2400mhz. Dimm 2 crashed system.

I had a IT Tech acquaintance work on the system and yielded same results. Many hours wasted testing individual dimms, dual dimms, different motherboard dimm slots. Same failed results.

Other Thoughts: If you are a new DIY or lack overclocking knowledge for just replacing or upgrading your ram look somewhere else. I have placed more credence on reviews rather than G.SKill's tech support who stated most problems are due to individuals that don't have the experience in applying correct memory timing/settings and or tweaking voltages to achieve specified 2400mhz rated specs. "This is our best PC 19200 kit and best available in the market."

My experience, wasted time and money dictate otherwise. Should have stayed with other trusted brand used for 15 years.

5 out of 5 eggsF3-2400C10D-8GTX

Pros: I put 2kits in my ASUS AMD fm2+ motherboard and it booted right up.

Cons: I didn't see the reviews where G-Skill tech support states it will not run at 2400 if you install 2 kits.

Other Thoughts: ASUS recommended this RAM for my motherboard

5 out of 5 eggsSexy and fast as balls

Pros: Well, like stated in the title, these RAM sticks are just gorgeous and run incredibly fast and smooth. They also stay pretty cool too.

Cons: The only problem I have with this product is that the screws to remove the top piece are cranked in extremely tight and stripped right away. However, it's not a big deal because I wasn't even wanting that part off. Just pointing it out.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect

Pros: OC'd to 2400 without any problems on an Asus Gryphon. Fastest RAM I've ever had the pleasure of using.

Cons: N/A

Other Thoughts: I'm ordering a second set because I'm paging too much @ only 8gb!

3 out of 5 eggsCould not get to 2400

Pros: Nice heat spreaders. Stable at 2200Mhz

Cons: Using with a i5-4690k cpu, and gigabyte GA-Z77x-UD5H (v1.0), bios F14. Couldn't get it to 2400 MHZ. Tried many different settings.
That motherboard shows this ram model number to be compatible and vice versa.

Other Thoughts: Even manually setting the timings and bumping the voltage to 1.7, and 1.75, I couldn't get it to run at 2400.
2200 is the best I get at 10-12-12-31 @ 1.65v.

I was hoping to go from 2133 to 2400 to speed up my video encode times. But I think I will just downclock this to 2133 and have 16GB of ram instead.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer

We will be glad to help with this issue. If you are attempting 2 kits of this RAM for 16GB, the rated specifications are no longer guaranteed. For guaranteed results, only use a single kit of RAM in each computer. With a single 8GB DDR3-2400 kit, enable XMP and the system should run smoothly at full speed. By adding a second kit for 16GB, XMP can no longer be used. You will need to attempt manual settings. Also, full slots of DDR3-2400 can be stressful for the CPU memory controller, so additional tweaks to the CPU System Agent Voltage may be necessary. If you would like help with this, please don't hesitate to let us know. The G.Skill support team is readily available to help and provide the necessary tips you need for the system to run fast and stable. Once complete, you can expect maximum performance for video encoding.

Thank you

5 out of 5 eggsRe-review

Pros: Cost vs. Performance
Speed and stability

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I reviewed this and said it wouldn't pass Memtest86 Hammer test - I was wrong, my test method was flawed. Testing individual sticks, it performs flawlessly. Works fine in production, too. So my apologies to G.Skill.

Too bad I couldn't update my previous review.

3 out of 5 eggsMemtest86?

Pros: Cost vs Performance

Cons: Won't pass memtest86 test 13 (Hammer test). When run in parallel mode, generates errors. When run in single-CPU mode, locks up computer while verifying pattern.

Other Thoughts: Tests run on ASUS Z97I-Plus, with an Intel i7-4790K processor, using all 3 memory profiles (XMP disabled, plus 2 provided XMP profiles).

Manufacturer Response:

.
Dear Customer

We are sorry to hear you are having such issues. With the latest BIOS and memtest86+, this RAM should pass without a problem. Test one stick at a time with XMP enabled to see if one performs differently. If so, send them in for RMA exchange and a replacement should work better. This is a high performance memory kit that will work flawlessly with the Intel i7-4790K CPU and fully unleash processing power. Should you need further assistance or have any questions, please feel free to let us know.

5 out of 5 eggsTrident X is the way to go

Pros: Excellent RAM sticks. Popped them in, already set to 2400Mhz as advertised, and ran them through memtest86 for a couple hours with no problems.

Cons: None so far, I will update if I have any problems

Other Thoughts: Definitely high quality heat fins which, even though they make no difference in performance, are definitely a nice touch. Although, the fins are a bit higher than I thought they would be originally. Not a problem, just something I have observed.

Worth the extra 3-5$.
