1 out of 5 eggsUpdate to Previous Review

Pros: When it worked - it worked extremely well.

Cons: Purchased two (2) of these at the same time (120GB version) - very end of January. They were being operated in a RAID mirror to ensure that if a drive failed - that the other would have a copy (also doing additional backups).

Due to the nature of the failure, one of the drives has failed in such a state that it caused the other drive to (via the mirroring) to scramble the data. All data on one of the partitions was completely gone. After carefully reviewing logs working on the drives - tried to re-copy the data. Within a short period of time, the partition lost the data again. Reviewing the SMART information from the working drive:
Power Cycle Count: 9
Power on Hours: 1121 (46 Days)
Temperature: 73 degrees F
LBAs Written: 1412
LBAs Read: 12

Other Thoughts: Partitioning and configuration was 4K aligned.

Given this premature failure, I'm highly concerned as to the viability of the second drive. I have preferred only a couple brands of SSD and Seagate was one of them. I will need to re-evaluate any future purchases of this line of SSDs.

1 out of 5 eggsBRICK

Pros: Works great....for 2 weeks

Balanced weight distribution means it flies far when thrown.

Cons: Installed in Feb, bricked by March. Warranty replacement came in (took 3 weeks!)...installed warranty replacement...Bricked again. I will NOT be pursuing further replacement. Buying a Samsung SSD now...

1 out of 5 eggsUPDATE

Pros: FAST SHIPPING NEWEGG

Cons: Didnt Work

Other Thoughts: I did call Seagate and was very disappointed, I was told by a representative the the drive, while new would have to be replaced. I was then told that if I were to use the warranty I would be sent a refurbished drive not a new one excatly like that.
I informed the rep that the drive is new and no longer available on Newegg the item has sold out. He stated that he understood that but it doesnt change anything, he stated that if I want a new drive that I would have to return it to Newegg or I can get a refurbished drive, but it seems as though the fact that I paid for a new drive at a new drive price was overlooked.

Due to the fact that I didnt want to complicate getting my money back for the drive I returned it to Newegg for a full refund. How is it fair to a consumer to pay full price for a product and then be told that I would be sent a refurbished product the same day that it arrived in the mail.

Considering the situation that the drive was sold out and no ETA from Newegg on when they would be available and that the drive arrived DOA, no exception could be made poor customer service, not looking for more than what I paid for just customer service and for Seagate to stand behind the product they sell.

Not to mention that when I purchased the SSD it was on sale which was a selling point as well. This problem could have happened with any Manuf. but it was with Seagate and this is how they handled it. There was not any troubleshooting to perform Seagate, the drive was DOA period. so the automated response provided below shows that you dont take time to really look into the issue a ticket is generated and the consumer is advised to call in. Seagate there were no technical solutions to the S.M.A.R.T error other than it will be replaced with a refurbished drive, per your support team.

1 out of 5 eggs600 Series ST240 GB

Pros: None so far and this is a review of the 240 GB that does not seem to exist on newegg anymore.

Cons: BIOS recognizes it but it will not boot nor show up in Windows 8.1. I will attempt to research the issue, but I'm not happy.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Product

Pros: Extremely fast. Small. Silent.

Cons: None whatsoever.

Other Thoughts: It is literally dead silent, cannot hear it at all. Wicked fast read/write speeds, as expected with an SSD, but still. Has lasted just about 6 months so far and has not given me a single issue. Have owned many Seagate hard drives over the years, have yet to be disappointed by one. Do keep in mind that like most SSD's, it is a 2.5 inch drive, and I believe on it's product features page it is even marketed as a laptop drive. Just to the uninformed, the 2.5 inches can be used in any desktop, even the ones from laptops, they simply have a connector on the edge of them to make them droppable into the laptop casing which can be pulled off. This drive performs extremely well, don't let the fact that it's marketed as a laptop drive deter you, it will function well in any desktop environment.

5 out of 5 eggsLove it so far!

Pros: Alright this is my 2nd personal SSD, different brand this time around. I am loving the speeds this thing has to offer, not to mention the features such as the ability to just copy over your operating system with Seagate's software.

Cons: None as of yet.

Other Thoughts: Love the price on this, when I first entered the SSD market when they were brand new, I paid 220.00 for a 100GB SSD. Now I am getting one for half the price with an extra 20GB. Gotta love how demand pushes prices!

2 out of 5 eggsCreates a black screen of death!

Pros: Fast reading and writing speeds. A modern slim design that doesn't take up much space in your case.

Cons: 3 weeks after the installation a Black Screen of Death occurred during a game of StarCraft 2. It came as a sudden slowdown of graphics, looping game sound, and then computer freezes. Upon restart, I get a black screen of death with a functional mouse pointer and nothing else. From there I am dealing with issues such as trying to re-install windows and formatting this SSD. When I try format it, system restore, or install windows - it takes EXTREMELY LONG PERIODS OF TIME and then fails. So clearly its a drive issues as this has never happened before.

The computer has locked up like this 3 times now. Every time during StarCraft 2 and this has started after I installed the drive. And now the drive is extremely resistant to being formatted in any way.

Other Thoughts: I specifically took the time to ensure that everything in my system is optimized for my new drive. Such as Trim, AHCI in BIOS etc.

Manufacturer Response:

2 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: I can't think of any other than it looks cool, its light weight and its SATA 3.

Cons: DOA. I attempted to install in my new PC build, My BIOS would not recognize this or my WD HDD. I went through troubleshooting steps multiple times before taking it to the Computer tech down the street to have it tested where it failed and it was determined DOA. I don't know if it was the heat from being inside the delivery truck or if it was just a faulty component to begin with. When I received this SSD in the mail, I noticed that the SSD was very warm from being in the UPS truck for so long during the day. I am very disappointed in this product but I'll try to RMA this thing and get another. I'm giving it 2 eggs since I'm unsure of why it was DOA.
