  • newegg The high-performance stable upgrade The Plextor M3 Pro is designed to be the ultimate notebook performance upgrade. This 256GB SSD comes with sustained random read and write speeds of 75,000/68,000 IOPS and 540/420 MB/s sequential read and write speeds. The latest 24nm synchronous MLC NAND flash modules with Toggle mode support from Toshiba further enhance product reliability. The DDR3 DRAM cache transfers data faster and helps extend lifetime of the product. The drive’s constantly high performance and True Speed-based stability result in outstanding real-world performance releasing the full potential of your notebook.
  • newegg A Superior PC Experience In addition to enhanced performance, the M3 Pro SSD promotes cooler, quieter, and more energy efficient conditions compared to traditional mechanical hard drives. With no moving parts, SSDs provide peace of mind with their superior durability and reliability.
  • newegg Trim Support The M3 Pro SSD offers TRIM support than can be enabled in Windows 7. Designed to maintain the performance of SSD at an optimal level over the lifetime of the drive, TRIM functions by actively deleting invalid data from the SSD’s memory cells to ensure that write operations perform at full speed. Since a memory block must be erased before it can be re-programmed, TRIM improves performance by pro-actively erasing pages containing invalid data, allowing the SSD to write new data without first having to perform a time-consuming erase command.
  • newegg 2.5" to 3.5" Bracket Included The M3 Pro SSD is specifically designed for notebook computers coming in a 2.5-inch hard drive form factor. In addition, the installation kit includes a 2.5" to 3.5" bracket for matching with 3.5” drive bay to extend the storage of your desktop computer.

2 out of 5 eggsPlextor SSD Failed After 7 Months

Pros: Very fast

Cons: Failed and crashed Windows 7 After 7 months of use

Other Thoughts: I have re-installed Windows on the same SSD drive and it's been ok for 3 weeks, so far. If it corrupts and crashes Windows again before the 1 yr warranty is up, I'll send it back for a replacement and update this review.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat SSD

Pros: fast, effortless, no glitches ever. Nice capacity, runs right at the top of its advertized speeds. Rock solid. I love this SSD, which I use for my program files in combination with two fast Raptors for the doc files. I'm so comfortable with it now that I'm thinking of replacing my Raptors with another of this SSD. Very nice machine.

Cons: none

1 out of 5 eggsFast drive, lackluster support.

Pros: Fast. (When it works)

Cons: Stability. I use a Thinkpad T420 with Fedora Linux, and I had problems from the moment I installed this SSD in my laptop. I should've returned it then and there, avoiding the other problem: plextor's RMA Support.

I RMA'd the drive to Plextor in mid-November. It's now the end of December, and they haven't shipped me a replacement yet. My experience with larger disk manufacturers was never this bad. At most, the RMA period was a week, and that's because there was a weekend thrown in there.

I've been limping along on a Kingston SSDNow 32GB drive for over a month, and I've been impressed with how well it performs. But I no longer have room for all of my test VM's or much else.

Other Thoughts: I used to be a Plextor fan, when SCSI cards were commonplace in PC's. Now, I'll likely avoid their brand.

5 out of 5 eggsAwsome

Pros: Like all the Plextor's products I have ever owned it has a feel, look and performance of quality. This drive is so fast that my 64bit Win7 Pro ranks it at a Windows Experience of 7.9 the highest anything can rate on a Windows machine. It is also completely silent when working and uses very little current. I have used the SSD performance

Cons: none

5 out of 5 eggsOne of the fastest SSD out there, and at 7mm thick, it will fit in small and light laptops

Pros: Speed - what we all want - I reviewed the charts on Tom's hardware, and the M3 Pro was consistently at or near the top of all the benchmarks I looked at (PC mark, read and write speeds, etc.
Comes with cloning and benchmark software. I was putting it in my desktop, so I could just plug into a SATA port, and use Acronis True image WD edition (can get off the WD website free).
transfer rate between hard drives went from an average of about 58MB/sec to low 130's - more than double.
Five year warranty.

Cons: You have to put the drive in an external case and use USB to clone a laptop drive (I would just use my desktop and Acronis to clone).
One of the more expensive drives out there.
Small - but I have a 1.5TB WD Green that I moved my music, documents, and videos and, and store my games there twogames

Other Thoughts: The longer you hold out, the bigger and cheaper they will be.

4 out of 5 eggsGood SSD - But, WAIT for M5P

Pros: Plextor is indeed cutting-edge stuff, and has a great warranty to boot.

Cons: None. It works great.

Other Thoughts: I wish I had waited a bit longer to buy the new version of this SSD that is even faster than this one. The new version is the PX-256M5P, and will be available in a couple of weeks from now. Maybe I'll buy than one too!

5 out of 5 eggsSweet

Pros: Steady 530MB/s even after filling it up to about 75%. Looks nice, too bad can't see it inside the case;) The truth is though that I can't really tell a difference in normal boot and usage from the older SSDs that were half as fast! But sweet anyway!

5 years warranty!

Cons: None, zero.

Other Thoughts: Best SSD I owned so far.

4 out of 5 eggsVery Good/Fast

Pros: I purchased 2 of these drives in order to RAID them. I just received these drives yesterday. Installation was very easy and the drive is very fast. Computer boots incredibly fast. And as other have said, programs load instantly.

Cons: I have 2 cons.
1. Does not come with SATA 3 cables. Not a big deal but this is something to remember. You may need to buy cables to install the drive
2. One of the 2 drives was DOA. I have 2 SATA 3 ports on my motherboard and one drives is recognized by both ports. The other drive is not recognized by either port. This happens from time to time. RMA in progress.

These are the reasons for 4 stars instead of 5. I will update the review once I get my new drive and see how the RAID works.

Other Thoughts: So far I am happy. I would be happier if both drives worked, but these things happen.

5 out of 5 eggslike a whole new computer

Pros: Amazing speedup after I got this all set up in my laptop. Its like having a new computer. I run Linux, Kubuntu 12.04 and it works wonderfully. Boot is faster, login incredibly faster, many apps run almost instantly. I have ThinkPad t420s, which is a thinner laptop, and the 7mm height drive fit in the bay with no issues. After researching many different models I settled on this one because it gives you the best balance of speed and price.

Cons: A transfer cable would have been nice.

Other Thoughts: I transferred my hdd to this ssd with these steps using the Parted Magic live linux, booted from USB.
- Put the ssd in a usb enclosure
- Backup HDD with Clonezilla
- Shrink HDD partition to small than the SDD
- Make a partition of the same size on the SDD
- Use Clonezilla to copy the HDD partition to the SDD partition
- Create swap partition on SDD and grow the copied partition to fill the space.
- Fix fstab and grub on the SDD so it will boot.
- Replace the internal HDD with the SDD, boot, and enjoy
