Boris Be Good 11/22/2012 7:19:12 PM Tech Level: 5/5 Ownership: 4/5 Verified Owner	Rating: 5/5Nice SSD so far Pros: The Plextor M5P appears to be a good performing drive with the latest Marvel controller and NAND. I installed mine in an older HP laptop that was sluggish even with the 7200 rpm HDD. Even though my current laptop is only SATA II the improvement in boot times and even downloads was significant. The old, slow CPU is the bottleneck at this point but this performance upgrade will hold me over until I get a new laptop in '13. Then I will move the Plextor M5P to the new laptop for maximum performance and lifespan. Cons: None so far. As with all SSDs we'll need to see how reliable this SSD is and if it develops any quirks like most other SSDs tend to over time. Other Thoughts: Since I was replacing an existing laptop HDD I used Acronis True Image Home to clone the existing HDD to the SSD. This worked out very well by using a USB to SATA III cable ($10. from Newegg). Acronis even resized the SSD partition to compensate for the difference in size between the two drives. Once everything was set I just clicked clone and 20 minutes later the SSD was ready to install in the laptop. I unplugged the HDD, plugged in the SSD, installed the cover and powered up. Everything worked flawlessly so this is the method I would recommend to others. There is a free 30 day trial on Acronis and many other drive cloning softwares so this is the way to go if you don't already have cloning software. I actually use Acronis for regular back-ups and recommend it. I have hesitated to switch to an SSD for my work PC due to all the issues that exist with most of the SSD brands and models. I'll use my laptop as a test bed before risking lost data, firmware updates, RMA's, etc. on my desktop PC. 1 out of 1 people found this review helpful. Did you? The best sandforce driven SSDs that I haved usded for recovery took at least 4 minutes. Otherwise I don't see much difference within Windows as compared to other older SSDs. ATTO gives 325 write and 525 read. CrystalDiskmark shows very impressive speed gains over other Sandforce SSDs I have. Bottom line is it seems to be a strong performer.
