1 out of 5 eggsTotal Failure After 2 Days!

This review is from: Plextor M6e PX-AG256M6e PCI-E 256GB PCI-Express 2.0 x2 Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: It's very fast - when it works.

Cons: It only last 2 days, then crapped out and could not be revived. In fact, the SSD stick became so corrupted that I lost control over the boot process of the PC, and it wasn't until I removed the Plextor PX-AG256M6e from the PCIe slot that I could regain operation of the PC. This was VERY disappointing since I spent 2 days installing the operating system, utilities, printer drivers, applications, etc., and then it just totally failed.

Other Thoughts: I had purchased this from Newegg at the end of May, but never got to install it until yesterday. Of course that means that I'm stuck trying to get the failed SSD replaced by RMA through Plextor, since Newegg appears not to stand behind a failed SSD after 30 days. The SSD installed just fine, loaded a full operating system and all utilities and apps, and then it just quit. I'm going to give another one a try, and RMA the original one back to Plextor. I sure wish Newegg would offer some assistance on this item, since it only lasted 2 days. Bummer!

4 out of 5 eggsGreat stuff from Plextor!

This review is from: Plextor M6e PX-AG256M6e PCI-E 256GB PCI-Express 2.0 x2 Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Fast, VERY FAST!
BIOS saw it, and Windows, too!
Installed a fresh version of Windows 8.1 Pro x64 without the need for additional drivers!

Cons: Voids warranty if removed from bracket.
Not a PCI-e x4 SSD, only x2, but that still beats SATA3!

Other Thoughts: Even though it may void the warranty, I removed the SSD from the adapter bracket, and installed it into the M.2 slot in my Z97 motherboard (Asus Z97-Deluxe). Again, installed Windows without any problems. Getting outrageous speeds (same as with PCI-e bracket).

5 out of 5 eggsAWESOME STEAM DRIVE

This review is from: Plextor M6e PX-AG256M6e PCI-E 256GB PCI-Express 2.0 x2 Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Plug and play after disk mgmt installed steam. that's all i use the drive for. the drives seems to be making my games a little faster every time i log on

Cons: added another item to the boot queue

Other Thoughts: the 512 ddr2 cache is probably why it seems to game faster and faster

5 out of 5 eggsNice Upgrade for Sata II Board

This review is from: Plextor M6e PX-AG256M6e PCI-E 256GB PCI-Express 2.0 x2 Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: This SSD went into a PCIE x 2.0 x 16 slot in my Dell 730X. This SSD is recognized right away with no fuss and no special driver installation required. I reformatted this drive & installed a fresh W7/64. The drive ends up with 29GB used/209GB free. When booting up, the card initializes upon post in under 10 seconds.

In so far as performance is concerned, the following are CrystalDisk numbers with my PC running at an intermediate power setting:

Seq 690Read/573Write
512K 510Read/553Write
4K 27Read/70Write
4K QD32 289Read/200Write

This card is very slim and takes up little space. It presents an eloquent solution to achieving SATA III performance on a SATA II board. The alternative is to use a host bus adapter card in a PCIE slot with an SSD. I have such a setup in a similar 730X using a Samsung 840 Pro with an LSI 9207 HBU and the performance is comparable with a cost savings of about $140.

Cons: None really. This is an SSD mounted on a PCIE card and so it has to be initialized upon boot. This takes 5-10 seconds and is mildly annoying.

Other Thoughts: Access time in AS SSD is 0.060ms read/0.066 ms write, so latency is good.

4 out of 5 eggsFast drive

This review is from: Plextor M6e PX-AG256M6e PCI-E 256GB PCI-Express 2.0 x2 Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Fast, quiet, easy to install and fits between two video cards in SLI with no problem.

Cons: After installing Windows 7 64 bit and all the drivers there is only 171Gb of the 238Gb left because of the Plextor PCIe format. Windows & and all motherboard, Video, & Audio drivers do not normally take up 67Gb of SSD space.

Other Thoughts: Intel Core i7-4930K @ 4.3GHz on Asus X79 Deluxe
34GB of 2400mhz memory (Corsair Dominator Platinum & G.Skill Ripjaws Z)
Plextor M6e 256Gb, OCZ Vertex 4 256Gb, Samsung 840 Pro 256GB, Western Digital 1TB HDD
Two EGVA GTX 780 Classified in SLI

3 out of 5 eggsMinimal information

This review is from: Plextor M6e PX-AG256M6e PCI-E 256GB PCI-Express 2.0 x2 Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Plugs into any free full-size PCI-e slot. Recognized by Windows 7 immediately, although drivers got reinstalled after upgrading the firmware.

Cons: ZERO documentation. Nada. Not even the Quick Installation Guide the box claimed was present. Searched the Plextor site and found a firmware upgrade and a tool called "Plextool", but no migration software like the Samsung Data Migrator. Plextor's official forums seem lightly used.

Other Thoughts: Diagnostic scan using Plextool originally failed at the last Read Scan step, but has since passed

5 out of 5 eggsGreat upgrade for 3gb sata mobo's

This review is from: Plextor M6e PX-AG256M6e PCI-E 256GB PCI-Express 2.0 x2 Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Speeds are a little better than 6gb/s ssd`s. Installation was easy. The drive was recognized on first boot. No problems installing OS on the drive. FIVE YEAR WARRANTY! That's nice.

Cons: Speeds are only a little better than 6gb/s ssd`s. Price is high per gb compared to regular ssd`s. No software included and the plextor tool available from the website is lame.

Other Thoughts: First of all, I bought the 512gb version overseas. Same product, just a higher capacity. If you want the 512 version, I would suggest overclockers dot co dot uk. I have an older x58 motherboard so this was quite a speed bump for me as I went from a 3gb sata to this baby. If you already have 6gb/s sata, this might not be worth the price. The software downloaded from the plextor site was just a very basic "snapshot" of the drive. I had no problems installing my OS on the drive.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat performance SSD without SATA III

This review is from: Plextor M6e PX-AG256M6e PCI-E 256GB PCI-Express 2.0 x2 Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Lives up to its specifications. I can export (write) Premiere Pro timeline at 560 MB/second. All you need is PCIe v2 with two lanes available slot. Read rate of 700 MB/seconds. Installation is very simple

Cons: None that I have found
