1 out of 5 eggsLOCK UP CITY

Pros: Large drive nice case and it runs cool, good price if it worked correctly

Cons: When moving a large amount of files it send the computer to a blue screen and then reboots. Every time I leave it running for awhile this happens. I am sending the files over a USB 3.0 port from a WD My book to this segate model. I also send the EXACT same files to another WD my book drive and this NEVER EVER HAPPENS. I know it works WD to WD, but once you put the segate into the lineup it strikes out - EVERYTIME -

If you only do a few hundred files at a time that are small - then the drive is ok. But for anything else this drive STINKS

I will return it back to costco and keep buying the Western Digital line.

Other Thoughts: Most people should not buy this drive.

3 out of 5 eggsCaution! No eSATA support!

Pros: Huge drive. Old price (109) was too good to be true.

Cons: Contrary to the ad copy, this is NOT convertible to eSATA. Newegg, do your homework! The Goflex 2.5" drives have an eSATA adapter, but the Goflex Desk (3.5") do NOT. And Seagate has no plans to make one either, as I found out on their forums. They think that eSATA == laptop, and laptop == 2.5" drive. If not for the great price I paid, I would have rated this 1*.

Other Thoughts: I pulled the drive out of the case, and as suggested by another reviewer, I put it into a BlacX drive dock. Unfortunately, the drive only showed up as 800G, this is a problem with the eSATA controller. So I hooked it back up via USB, converted to GPT disk, and formatted a 1.9TB and a ~850GB partition on it. I don't know if this is safe to do, but I seem to be able to access both partitions now via eSATA. (This did not work when I formatted a single 3TB partition.) BTW the BlacX rocks!

4 out of 5 eggsDoes the Job

Pros: Works
No issues

Cons: Does not include USB 3.0

Other Thoughts: I bought two of these drives: one USB 2.0 and one USB 3.0. They both work great.
However, I think they should just include a 3.0 adapter with the drive, instead of selling one separately, and selling a separate drive with 3.0 support. One well-priced drive that does both would be nice.

5 out of 5 eggsWorked like a charm

Pros: Works well on all my Mac's. I have also purchased the FW800 connector and it really improved the performance.

Cons: Wish the "Mac" model with FW800 didn't have such a premium, otherwise none.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: 3TB capacity at a great speed for a mechanical drive. I use it with Windows 7 and Mac OS X as an internal Seagate Barracuda XT ST33000651AS.

Cons: $30 more if you want USB 3.0.

Other Thoughts: I don't know if the perceived heat of the enclosure will actually affect the drive's operation. Many users complain about the heat without having felt a normal 3.5" drive in operation.

2 out of 5 eggsToooo Hot!!! Ouch !!

Pros: Very fast drive. No problems with data integrity after owning 2 months. Nice and quiet too.

Cons: This drive gets extremely hot to the touch in 2 hours and will burn you like a hot stovetop in 3 hours of constant use. This is true in the case or out of the case without ventilation. The case is terrible. I took it out and it gets this hot. I only use it 2-3 hours, then shutdown for at least 1 hour. Not practical to back up big drives for this reason. I would not buy this one again, but no problems with seagates with cooling.

Other Thoughts: Take it out of the case for sure and use a powered fan on it when in use. Then it is fine. I would not think about leaving this in its case for one second. I am a mechanical engineer with a masters in heat transfer and thermodynamics! Cool this thing down fast !
