1 out of 5 eggsFail!

This review is from: Western Digital Blue WD10EZEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Installed like butter.

Cons: Failed after 3 weeks. Should I consider Seagate?

2 out of 5 eggsI've had two die in two years.

This review is from: Western Digital Blue WD10EZEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Cheap. Lots of space.

Cons: Not very fast. And I've had two of them die months apart from each other. One is one year old, the other is 2 years and 4 months.

I've replaced more of these HD's then I wish to bother buying.

1 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Western Digital Blue WD10EZEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Low $/GB.

No-nonsense WYSIWYG hardware.

Cons: I ordered two. In my build, one is for media and another is for non-OS / non-basic applications. "Media" is working alright so far; "Applications" is having problems and I believe I will need to RMA.

The first sign of trouble was when a file cut/paste failed and left a string of damaged photos on both hard drives. I deleted those and restored from a backup, blaming (probably wrongly, in retrospect) Windows.

The second issue was from Steam, which generated a "disk write error" upon the first attempt at game installation on "Applications". Even after many attempts and various troubleshooting, the game did not fully install - the error repeated itself reliably until I took extreme measures.

I installed some other games through Steam, probing to see if I could establish a pattern. They installed without a problem, but upon restarting the system, I ran into a new host of problems. The computer would boot and function up until the point it attempted to access information stored upon the drive in question. At that point, the entire OS would freeze up, even Task Manager. It would, however, run fine if I did not leave the troublesome "Applications" drive installed.

So finally I bit the bullet and performed another full format, which took around 4-5 hours. It now appears to be working better, but not correctly.

I successfully installed Steam, but then got another "disk write error" before a game installation worked inexplicably on the second attempt. Attempting to launch the game, however, crashed the service, and now Steam won't start again. But hey, at least the whole system isn't seizing up, right?

HDD diagnostic tools (I ran a couple) can't seem to turn up bad sectors or any other problems, but something is very obviously wrong. I believe I'm going to end up RMA'ing this drive - or just replacing it. I doubt it's worth the shipping and my time on a drive this cheap.

5 out of 5 eggsAMAZING

This review is from: Western Digital Blue WD10EZEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: It boots windows 8.1 in the 12-15 second range from a fresh start.
And the best part is I have about 200GB of it used and it is still that fast

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: If you are one of those people that want storage and don't want to blow a lot of money on a SSD with only 256 GB this is the drive for you

5 out of 5 eggsGreat reliable drive

This review is from: Western Digital Blue WD10EZEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Western Digital Blue drives in my opinion are some of the most reliable drivers on the market. Out of all the drives I have bought over the years I notice tend to hold up the best. I bought 3 of them for 3 new computers all of the worked great without a hitch.

Cons: One thing to watch out for WD drives is the sata cable. I would not use an angled sata cables cause if you are not careful while putting it into the case you can mess up the plastic part that holds the pins in. I did this on one drive and was able to fix it with a little electrical tape.

1 out of 5 eggsSeverely Disappointed

This review is from: Western Digital Blue WD10EZEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Two 8 year old models still work.

Return shipping was free?

Cons: These two didnt.

Other Thoughts: Sent the first one back cuz it was DOA, new one arrived today, almost 2 weeks after recieving the first one, and I was so happy when it spun up. Then I try to format it and it just wouldn't be recognized anymore. Turn off PC, reseat connections, try again. Computer taking forever to POST. Reseat connections again. Windows wont boot, no matter how long I wait.
Try to format using windows install disk, wont even allow that to load.
Computer works perfectly fine with drive DISCONNECTED.

Too Long Didnt Read:
First one DOA, Second one shorted itself and my system out.
So severely disappointed, I just went to best buy and got a seagate drive, plug it in and it works.
