1 out of 5 eggscaution win Xp users

Pros: It worked with both Xp and win7 until I upgraded the firmware.

Cons: It stopped working with win Xp after upgrading to v2.2.2r5. The tech support guy blamed me to corrupt the firmware by skipping from v1.1.xx to v2.2.2r5.
There is nothing on their website to confirm that so he was improvising.
Hello! it works with win7 how can it be than corrupt Mr Tech Support.
The manual on their website is outdated.

Other Thoughts: I think it would be very heplfull to include firmware revision and the OS when writing a review.

4 out of 5 eggsOnly one minor flaw

Pros: EASY setup (in Windows, see cons). Flexible and compact. Solved printer sharing and media sharing issues in one fell swoop. Fast enough to stream HD around my home.

Cons: Won't let me run the setup in any browser but Internet Explorer, which I DESPISE! I'm a Mac user, so I had to do this in a virtual machine running in Windows.

Other Thoughts: Haven't contacted support since I have a workaround.

4 out of 5 eggsA good solution but no NTFS write capability

Pros: Inexpensive gigabit multi usb drive network access. Works great with xp and linux. Attached drives will spin down to power saving mode if they are capable. This should help with drive longevity.

Cons: NTFS capability is read only. Fat32 limits individual file size to 4GB. This could affect backups from NTFS partitions.

Other Thoughts: Time will tell but I am happy for now. Adding NTFS write capabiltiy would rate 5/5 for me.

2 out of 5 eggsYou pay for what you get

Pros: Cheap and lets you view your files on a remote USB drive.

Cons: Cheap and lets you view your files on a remote USB drive....and that's about it. Playing ~200MB (30 min) video files is jerky when reading off my 500MB drive. Copying anything over the network is a nightmare. It just locks up, crashes and needs a hard reboot.

Other Thoughts: I didn't expect much for the price but I expected that it would at least do what it claimed (copy, read files remotely).

From what I can tell on Cirago's website, it's their first commercial NUS device and it certainly feels like a prototype.

Stay away unless you have $50 to throw away or 4 tiny FAT32 flash drives, which is what it can apparently handle.

If you do take the plunge, stay away from the 2nd BIOS update. It just makes the problems I mentioned worse...

4 out of 5 eggsIt works like it says!!!

Pros: I am running Vista and I hooked up a 2 TB WD Elements to this thing. I'm getting about 5 MB/Sec transfer rates in both directions, which is good enough for what I want.

Cons: Had to reformat the hard drive to FAT32 which is ok, I don't have any files too big for that. 2 GB is the max.

Other Thoughts: The first unit I got was defective, worked about 5 minutes. I was on the phone with Chirago tech support (Joe) almost an hour. Joe walked me through hooking it up and getting it to work because I basically had no idea what I was doing. Newegg promptly replaced the defective unit. Newegg is great and I could not ask any more from Chirago, his help was fantastic.

1 out of 5 eggsNot quite.

Pros: Small, nice interface.

Cons: I've found that data transfer speeds are unusable at best with Windows 7 which is a big issue. 20 minutes to move a 30Mb file??? XP and Mac OSX work fine with it. This is likely an issue with Cirago using a dated Samba release. Sent a couple of messages to their support which were not replied to. FAIL. The media server would not stream video. Tried video of many formats, none worked, no MPEG, MP4, AVI, MOV, none...

Other Thoughts: I can't give this device a good review. It failed in performing both tasks for which I purchased it. This device is a great idea, too bad it doesn't work well.

1 out of 5 eggsUnusable, Unstable, SLOW

Pros: Nice idea.
4 USB ports

Cons: The transfer rates of the device are so slow the device is unusable. I was getting 2.5 MBPS reading from a drive and 3.5 MBPS writing to a drive. It wouldn't finish formatting one of my external drives to EXT2. It would start formatting and just stop at random times.

Other Thoughts: The first thing I did was update to the new firmware 1.2.0 to get ext2 support. No way I was going to format a 2tb drive fat32.

If this device would max out the 100 mb network connection or even better a 1000 mb network connection the device might be worth it. Save your money and get something better.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Little Black Box

Pros: Easy way to connect and network your external HDs AND a printer at home.
Easy setup and management.
PS3 recognized the setup.

Cons: The RJ45 cable that came with the product was bad; wouldn't hold a connection. Replaced it with a spare I had, and worked like a charm.

Access can get wonky sometimes; iTunes sometimes doesn't recognize the box on my network; sometimes gets 'stuck' during access. A quick reset fixes it.

Other Thoughts: Have a Western Digital MyBook 250GB and a WD Passport 250GB connected as storage. Running a HP Photosmart 7760 on it as well. So far printing is flawless, and have some minor hiccups on storage access. Nothing major.

4 out of 5 eggsWorked as advertised

Pros: *Inexpesive way to network portable drive and printer.
*Easy to set-up.
*Since it can only write to FAT32 drive, the files in the NFTS drive are safe from being deleted or modified.

Cons: *slow
*can only write to FAT32 hard drive so you need to reformat partition to FAT32. I used fat32format.exe to create partition greater than 32gb.
*basic features

Other Thoughts: I attached a WD Passport Essential HD and a HP Officjet J4680 to my network. I wanted to attach my other printer (Lexmark X6170) but it will lose the capability to scan to a file.

1 out of 5 eggsThis thing is awfull

Pros: It connects my HD to my network.

Cons: I bought it to share my printer on my home network. Unless you have lpr printer you are out of luck. I am sure it says it somewhere, but I did not notice.

Other Thoughts: I will never buy anything from this company if they advertise shared printer, but forget to tell customers that the printer must be LPR or whatever.
