Adesso introduces a keyboard to compliment both media centers and game systems. The model WKB-4000US is a standard keyboard with a few twists to meet today's tough demands. By building it to more of a laptop-inspired design, it is slim, trim, and made for easy storage.
It also boasts a 2.4 GHz enhanced frequency to prevent delays, drops, or overlap of its wireless signal. The touchpad's position makes for easy manipulation of the cursor. The sweet two toned paint job will make this a stand out no matter where you may be.
Pros: Silky smooth operation when setup optimally.
Cons: 802.11 impairs keyboard performance.
Other Thoughts: This unit will deliver silky smooth operation consistently if you follow these tips.
1. Don't forget to hit a key twice (recommend SHIFT) to wake it up.
2. If you are dropping keys or have choppy mouse movements: A. Try swapping with known good batteries. B. Reposition the USB adapter. I got much better range by using an USB extension cable to relocate the adapter. Just moving the adapter six inches away from the computer case made all the difference. It eliminated keyboard dead zones. C. Avoid wireless conflicts between the keyboard and wireless router by locking your router to a different wireless channel. Try channel 11. I found lower channels would conflict with the unit. D. Switch wireless router's operating modes away from 802.11b. Try 802.11g-only or 802.11n-only if possible. I was able to more channels wireless router channels when I changed modes.

Runs in Linux, and super light!

Pros: Love the size and weight of this unit. It is absolutely a perfect match for my PVR (personal video recording) PC running Fedora Core and MythTV. Also, it comes with Energizer brand batteries! ...not some cheap, generic-brand, Korean batteries. The unit is very sleek and sexy without any branding on the top at all. Imagine that in our current world of excessive corporate advertising and sponsorship. This unit is similar to a laptop's keyboard and touchpad, but for some reason I can't define, it seems a little more ergonomic. Even though it's only 88 keys, its layout is very close to a 104-key keyboard. This is the only third-party, 88-key, mini keyboard that has a key layout I like.
Cons: The unit goes into a sleep mode after a delay (which is great), but to wake it up, it takes a key press and a short delay. That means if you want to type something immediately after it is asleep, it might miss one or two keystrokes until it wakes up (it doesn't buffer them in memory). Also, this combo mini is expensive compared to keyboard and mouse combos, but cheap compared to other RF wireless combos.
Other Thoughts: The wireless transmitter is a little big. It's about the size of a USB thumb drive... the first models ever sold (read: large USB 'thumbdrive'). This isn't really a problem, but might be helpful for those who have limited clearance where their PC's USB ports reside. It's sticks out about 2.5" from a USB port. This length doesn't include the USB plug itself.

Pros: This keyboard gives you the freedom to control your computer from almost anywhere. I was able to successfully get it to work some 50 feet or more away from the computer. The signal went through a couple of walls in my home without any problems. This keyboard allows me to control my HTPC from my arm chair exactly as I planned.
Cons: The keyboard is slightly smaller than my laptop keyboard, but not by much.
Other Thoughts: Others have indicated that the touchpad is too sensitive or that you can't turn it off which causes problems when typing. I found that it functions no differently than the touchpad on my laptop computer.
Others have also mentioned that they had to re-sync the keyboard each time that they used it. I have not experienced that behavior. What I have seen is the keyboard goes to sleep after no activity for awhile. To re-awake it you have to press any key. I use the space bar to re-awaken the keyboard and then it works just fine. You can tell that the keyboard is awake by looking for the mouse pointer on the screen.
All in all I am very pleased with this keyboard. I wouldn't purchase it to replace the regular keyboards on my other computers. However, I would recommend it for the purpose that I bought it for and that is to control my HTPC. It works fine and from a reasonable distance.

Stay Away from this JUNK

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Great idea, nice form factor, would be great for htpc.
Cons: Absolute Junk
-Poorly put together, falls apart. I don't think it's QC, just poorly made/designed -terrible range. -disconnects frequently
RMA'd the first one: Connected the dongle while sitting on the carpet next to the computer, reached over and placed the flat of my hand on the keyboard and slid it towards me. several keys popped off under my fingers. What are you kidding? The range was about 6 ft, and disconnected every 2- minutes, requiring you to push the tiny button on the dongle to reconnect.
The Second one arrived yesterday. better range, but Junk again. Kneeling on the carpet with keyboard on my lap, reached for the driver cd, and the board flipped over and landed on the carpet. It fell maybe 5-6" onto a rug with soft underpad. When I flipped it over, the touchpad had popped off. I was able to pop it back in, but I can hear something rattling around inside it.
Typing this, it skips about 1 in 20 keys I hit.
Other Thoughts: I'm so happy I get to pay return shipping twice on the piece of junk.

Close but no cigar

Pros: Size is great. Keyboard works pretty well.
Cons: I HATE THE TOUCHPAD!!! I don't have an issue with touchpads per se, but this one is HORRIBLE! It's just *way* too sensitive, and the lack of a specific driver means there's no way to calibrate it, and there's no way to disable the overly sensitive tap-to-click. The tap-to-click feature is especially bothersome. You just have to be way too careful to not accidently tap it (not at all easy to do when attempting even simple mouse cursor movement). I really wanted to like this KB but the lack of touchpad adjustment is a complete deal-breaker.
Other Thoughts: I give up with this thing. The bottom line is that the touchpad is simply too intrusive and greatly hinders one's productivity. It's going back to the store.
