2 out of 5 eggsGreat until it doesnt work

This review is from: Rosewill Apollo - RK-9100xR - Mechanical Keyboard with Red Backlight

Pros: was a fine basic mechanical keyboard.

Cons: function keys are weird, I wish it had a designated volume slider. Oh yeah and it just stops working for no reason. Very clean, 5 months of light use, never moved from the desk. I tried in multiple P.c.s

1 out of 5 eggsGarbage Keyboard

This review is from: Rosewill Apollo - RK-9100xR - Mechanical Keyboard with Red Backlight

Pros: Led Lit
Mechanical Keyboard
Cheap

Cons: Keys randomly get stuck like your holding down the key.

Other Thoughts: I bought this keyboard about a month ago to replace a previous old DAS keyboard that I had which was uber expensive.I was intrigued by the price, but after a short month of use, I knew it was to good to be true for the price. Whenever I use the keyboard, the keys randomly get stuck like your holding a certain key down infinitely and to get out of it, you have to jab the key several times for it stop. This is very bad if you use your keyboard for anything serious. Had to swap this keyboard for my old one after this incident happening to me more then 30 times in month.

2 out of 5 eggsAlright value on sale.

This review is from: Rosewill Apollo - RK-9100xR - Mechanical Keyboard with Red Backlight

Pros: Price: Pretty cheap when on sale
Looks: Nice minimalist aesthetic
Features: Good list of features for the price, multiple modes for LEDs, media keys, hotkey profiles.

Cons: Design flaw: This is the first mechanical keyboard I've ever had that had holes that lead directly to the circuit board from the front. This makes the keyboard heavily vulnerable to single DROPLETS water. Even cheap $5 rubber dome keyboards I've had in the past had SOME order of separation between the circuitry and the front of the keyboard. Disappointing.

Awful warranty: This is also the first item I have EVER bought that had a 0 day warranty for labor. Absolutely unreasonable for an item that costs $150 MSRP. This means that after the 30 day return period, any problem that you had no control over whatsoever will come out of your own pocket to fix, with one issue probably running at least $30-40. It'd be better just to put $40 toward a more reliable keyboard with a 2 year warranty.

Other Thoughts: This item functioned perfectly for a couple days and then started having a couple keys stop functioning. After looking into getting it replaced, I noticed that the warranty for labor was 0 day. Now I'm returning it while I still have a chance.

This is the second Rosewill keyboard I've owned, and the third Rosewill item I've owned. The first Rosewill keyboard was the famous RK-9000 that had the USB connection issue, which broke at 1 year 1 month, outside warranty. The other Rosewill item I had was a multi-reader that was slightly too big and I had to heavily scuff up just to fit into the 2.5" drive bay. It also only takes SD cards and other stuff upside down for some reason ...

Needless to say, I won't be buying or recommending Rosewill anymore. Having a 0-day Labor warranty just screams that you don't have any confidence in your product, and combining that with the holes that lead to the circuit board tells me they just want to part you from your money.

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsDoes not work without a driver

This review is from: Rosewill Apollo - RK-9100xR - Mechanical Keyboard with Red Backlight

Pros: Does what you expect. Works fine POST boot via the O/S driver.

Cons: Keyboard fails to work until booting into the operating system (only works with a drive). I was unable to use the keyboard to get into my BIOS or other pre-OS functions. This experienced was with the latest BIOS as of this writing for the HP Z620.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent keyboard so far

This review is from: Rosewill Apollo - RK-9100xR - Mechanical Keyboard with Red Backlight

Pros: Advertised features are working almost as expected. Its a nice keyboard with a nice feel, MX Blue switches are noisy but very nice.
Macros are a nice plus but there is an issue (see below).

Cons: - Macros are not working for gaming. I program a macro and it technically "works", however when executing the macro key it basically causes any other keys you were holding down at the time to act like you let go of them.
For example, I programmed my space bar to be a repeating space bar macro, as if you were spamming the space bar. I then set that macro to repeat as long as the space bar key is held down. While in game, holding W to run forward, if I press the space bar, I will bunny hop but stop moving forward, as if I let go of the W key when I have not. If I let go of W then hit it again, while still holding the space bar, I will start running forward again but then I stop jumping, as if I let go of the space bar. So it seems that if you set any key to execute a macro, pressing that key will cause any other currently pressed keys to stop working, and vice versa.. very annoying and totally kills any macro functionality for gaming.
I plan to search for other macro programmer apps as the software this kb comes with is very basic and clunky.

- if I plug my USB headphones (Plantronics Gamecom) in the keyboard seems to lose power and the PC acts like I unplugged it.. the USB board in this keyboard is very sketchy ..

-Only other con I've noticed is a couple of times, a key I pressed got "stuck" , for example the R key stuck as I typed "beer" , so after I hit the R it started repeating the R so I watched as "beerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr" scrolled across the screen until I tapped the R key again which stopped it. Has not happened since so for now I'm calling it fluke..

Other Thoughts: Has potential to be a great kb for the money, but time will tell if it is good quality or not. If my issues continue or get worse, I will have to return it.

4 out of 5 eggsNot sure what happened.

This review is from: Rosewill Apollo - RK-9100xR - Mechanical Keyboard with Red Backlight

Pros: It is a nice keybaord and the response is greate

Cons: For some reason, I was unable to find the driver online.
The tech support was unable to help me with the light switching issue, had to figure it out myself.
After a while, my keyboard disconnects and reconnects randomly, but it may be related to my computer system..

3 out of 5 eggsSome good, some bad

This review is from: Rosewill Apollo - RK-9100xR - Mechanical Keyboard with Red Backlight

Pros: Price - The main reason I chose this specific keyboard. Got it on sale plus used a discount code, was one of the cheapest keyboards I found with backlighting and true Cherry Blues.

Backlit, with on the fly adjustable brightness

Built in USB hub

Wrist rest

True Cherry mechanical switches

Size - Many "gaming" keyboards are larger as they have added macro keys down the side, this is the size of a standard keyboard with a number pad.

Spare multi-color key caps with a key cap remover.

Cons: Construction quality - The wrist rest is kind of flimsy and there's a rough seam around the edge of the keyboard. It also has a cheap plastic feeling that my old keyboard (Das Keyboard) didn't have.

Software - I wasn't to crazy about it, ended up just installing it.

Power on lag, can't get into BIOS - My main concern, as even though it's plugged into the same port as my old keyboard, the Apollo takes so long to "boot" my computer is already already at the Windows loading screen, so I'll have to pull out my old keyboard if I need to do anything in the BIOS.

Other Thoughts: I was using a Das Keyboard with Cherry Browns, but decided I wanted to give Blues a try and also wanted to switch back over to a backlit keyboard. The 9100xR had the features I wanted - backlit, wrist rest, and Cherry Blues - while still having the features I liked from the Das Keyboard - a built in USB hub and multimedia keys.

But it has some downsides. The construction quality, "Meh" software, and long power-on times aren't something I'd expect from a keyboard with a normal price of $150.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat feeling, good sensors

This review is from: Rosewill Apollo - RK-9100xR - Mechanical Keyboard with Red Backlight

Pros: Responsive keys
Good solid construction
Smooth material
Heavy (It is a good thing!)

Cons: Only con I can think of, is that the software to use with it is really... basic. I can't even find anything on the help files included that give me any indication on how to change the LED profiles, and setting a macro seems a bit clunky. Other than that, this is a great keyboard that worked straight out of the box.

Other Thoughts: If Rosewill could rewrite the software, I would be SO happy.

5 out of 5 eggsQuality keyboard

This review is from: Rosewill Apollo - RK-9100xR - Mechanical Keyboard with Red Backlight

Pros: -bright, adjustable backlight settings
-comfortable feel with keys and board overall
-rubber like finish
-comes wtih a palm rest
-macros
-has 2 more usb hubs and extends mic and phone jacks

Cons: -software for macros kinda clunky
-palm rest might not fit perfect for some people, hard to remove efficiently
-top row of keys slightly unevenly lit, although it's not too obvious(F keys show better than sub functions)

Other Thoughts: If you can get this onsale sub 100, it's without a doubt the best on the market for that price. It's still a good keyboard regardless of how much you pay

4 out of 5 eggsReview

This review is from: Rosewill Apollo - RK-9100xR - Mechanical Keyboard with Red Backlight

Pros: Cherry MX Switches
Adjustable LED Brightness
LED "Breathing" Mode
Rubberized Wrist Rest
Sturdy Tilt Feet
Long Braided Cable
2 USB Slots
Headphone Pass-Through
Microphone Pass-Through

Cons: Extremely Basic Macros
Poor Software Implementation

Other Thoughts: At first when I ran the installer from the disc I got a BSOD and had to reboot. Second time I copied the installer to my desktop and it installed fine. Then the backspace key didn't work, thought I had a faulty switch. Turns out I had to change USB ports and the backspace key worked again... odd.

Due to the poor software, macro, and installation design I knocked an egg off.
