5 out of 5 eggsX1240 rocks!

Pros: @ $330 (or less), this is a steal. There's just no other projector that comes close in overall value.

@400 it's still a good purchase. I couldn't find anything better anywhere in that range.

@500, I'd compare first.

*Perfect for watching HD movies. @1080p! (yes; it does play at that quality. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. If you can't get it to do this, the problem is the device you are playing the movie from and not the fault of the projector).
*Perfect for playing modern PC games.
*Perfect for playing modern Console games.
*Very quiet.
*Easy controls.
*Can tell it what color your wall is, and it will adjust the picture accordingly.
*shut-off timers
*Perfectly usable in a well-lit room and w/ 'some daylight.
ECO mode is so close to the nomal mode, and the brightness is so strong ... that you probably won't ever take it out of ECO mode.
*I was able to buy a non-electric pair of 3D glasses
that came with some 3D sidewalk chalk (made by Crayola; for like 7 bucks in the toy isle) and I was able to get 'some' 3D effect while viewing the game "Trine 2". It might work somewhat on other 3D games too; am unsure.
But It's a cheap alternative, if you need a 3d-fix and can't afford the actual 3D tech setup yet.
@ 11 ft. and 10 inches (between the front of the projector and the wall) ... I have an 84 inch screen (diagonal) in wide-screen mode. But if I make some adjustments, It can get a lot bigger before it loses any clarify.
*It's an ACER!
-which is a very trusted name.
The official site says 3 years parts and labor.

Cons: The sound quality of the internet speaker is a joke.
I actually laughed when I heard it.
However, you're free to use any other speakers you may own, so it shouldn't be an issue.
This projector is ANALOG ONLY>
If you try to feed it (hook it up to) a digital signal,
it will not know what to do with it.
However, if you want to hook up to a digital source …. you can buy a cheap converter (digital-to-analog) and you won't lose -any- resolution as a consequence.
-just make sure that if you do that ... you get a true "converter" and not a mere "adapter", because you need a device that will change the digital signal into an analog signal. I picked up a device for 25 bucks that did the trick.; enabling me to run an HDMI cable from my XBOX 360 -to- the converter ... and then a VGA cable (from the converter) to the projector ... and I was suddenly able to play Diablo 3 at 1080p instead of 720.

(note: I don't know if Newegg carries the right converter or not. I got mine elsewhere. but you will have to go online for one. No local gaming or electronics stores will have it; I promise.
With this projector, 3D features for gaming (and movies) aren't compatible with AMD's Radeon video cards. So if you want to use the 3D features on this projector, you need an NVIDIA/Geforce video card in your PC. (and the compatible electric glasses that you must buy separately).
*On super bright /high-glare winter days,
you'll want to close the curtains..

Other Thoughts: Buy this.

4 out of 5 eggsNice low cost projector

Pros: Quick start up and shut down, fairly small, two VGA inputs and one output, nice bright picture, simple controls, adjustments for height and tilt, comes with a remote, low price

Cons: This is a long-throw projector (high distance to image size ratio) and needs to be fairly far back from the screen for a decent size image. Fairly limited amount of zoom adjustment. No lens cap (really?). Does not cool the bulb down on shutdown (maybe that's not needed?). No HDMI input. The case is shiny plastic that gets scratched up and dusty almost instantly.

Other Thoughts: I got this projector on sale and the deal included a free self-standing projection screen, so I am thrilled with what I got.

When you are shopping for a projector, you need to consider not only the brightness (lumens), the contrast ratio (how black are the blacks), and the input connections, but pay attention to the "throw ratio", which is expressed in a ratio of some number to 1 (like 1.4:1), and will often be a range for those with adjustable zoom. This will determine how far back (or how close) you can and need to place the projector in order to get a proper sized image. If I knew this was a long-throw projector with somewhat limited zoom, I may have opted for a different model (though at the price and with the screen, I'd be stupid to have passed it up), It does mean that my choices for where to place the projector are limited. I'll deal with that.

This is a nice quiet, bright capable projector for general purpose use at a very good price. It's my second Acer projector (the other one is an LED super-portable one) and I think their quality is above average. I would recommend this to anyone doing PPT presentations and occasional movie watching in an average lighted room.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing!

Pros: Has an amazing picture, even for not being 1080p! Put the picture on a 4x5 screen (80inch) and it looks fantastic!

Cons: Its an older/cheaper model, so no HDMI, but was not a big deal at all. Bought a few cables and adapters to play from an Ipad for my kids as well as hook to my pc and it has been an awesome set!

Other Thoughts: It also came with a free 4x5 screen that is amazing in quality! Great deal on this package!

5 out of 5 eggsOutstanding

Pros: high-contrast, bright lumens, relatively low heat, good resolution, great focus, comes with VGA cable, comes with carrying case, 7000 hour bulb life

Cons: Slightly noisy fan

Other Thoughts: Overall this projector is amazing and I love using it whenever I get the chance. From watching television, playing games, or even just surfing the web on my laptop it is just an amazing item to own, and after a few hours, you get used to the fan, its not too bad.

5 out of 5 eggsdechapman

Pros: Easy configuration and operation. Bulb life is outstanding; almost 7,000 hours in Eco Mode. Produces a clear and sharp picture. I put this unit through its paces during a four day meeting without experiencing any problems.

Cons: NONE

Other Thoughts: I was amazed at the quality of the picture this projector produced from out-of-the-box. This unit was purchased for business purposes; however, over the weekend we had a backyard movie party; and, this projector produced a 180 inch picture with outstanding quality!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Product! Good Price!

Pros: Great bulb life, good resolution, small, good functionallity

Cons: Height adjustment knobs are wierd. Three feet, where only 2 are adjustable (one in front middle and two in back corners and only one back and the front middle adjust, making it wobbly at long extentions).
Little zoom (manual and digital)
Wish it had HDMI or DVI

Other Thoughts: Overall, I got it for $300 with the free Acer 5'x4' projector screen. Great value and would definitely recommend.

4 out of 5 eggsAcer X1240 PowerPoint Projection

Pros: I purchased this projector to assist my teaching classes which are dependent on projection of PowerPoint images and video clips.

After one eight hour class the projector is looking very good. I took advantage of the screw in camera tripod receiver built into the projector and used a tripod to mount the projector. That worked perfectly for me. The unit worked fine in a dimly lit room as well as one with half lighting. The image was clear and easy to focus. The color rendition was very good, and the fan noise was very low. The unit got warm but did not seem to overheat. Comes with remote, and carrying case. Has VGA, S-Video, and RCA inputs - would of course liked to have had HDMI but it was not a no-go on my purchase. Was pretty easy to configure.

Cons: The only thing that I would like to have seen different was that the fan shutdown was almost immediate when turning off the unit. Even when extending the setting so the fan would run as long as possible it was less than a minute. I would think that this would have some effect on bulb life, and would like the unit to really cool down before I put it away. The manual was on CD which is OK but I would have preferred at least a limited manual on paper..

Other Thoughts: I purchased this as the best ROI I could find,. with a Newegg coupon for a good discount. My use for this is about monthly so in theory it should last a good long time.

Newegg shipping was prompt.
