2 out of 5 eggsGood for a while....

Pros: Cheap, 720p, lots of options compared to my last entry level projector.

Cons: Not many, other than perhaps quality?

I have owned this for only the better part of 3 months. I fire it up in the morning after using the projector the prior evening, only to find out that the color wheel has failed? The power LED is on, and the 'lamp' led is flashing red, which seems to indicate color wheel(sensor?), and not lamp failure. I have tried blowing it out with air, resetting, etc. It looks like I have a RMA on my hands...

Other Thoughts: Worked well when it worked, but when I have to depend on a product I might consider something else...

1 out of 5 eggsLamp Life

Pros: entry level price, multiple input options, great picture (I have only used the hdmi input)

Cons: have owned for only a few months, very limited use since the room is not fully set up for convenience and comfort yet. We have only watched a few movies on it.

This morning my children turned it on and NO PICTURE. I checked it out when I returned home and saw a red 'lamp' light on.

Other Thoughts: How can the lamp have failed so quickly?

5 out of 5 eggsFantastical

Pros: Decently bright. You still need a pretty dark room to avoid washing the image out. It's fine with some daylight (like thin curtains) or a lamp with a low watt bulb.
720p. I moved up from a 480 projector and the difference is night and day.
HDMI. It has svideo, vga, RCA, and composite. But I was in it for the HDMI.
Auto keystone. It wasn't perfect in my case so I used manual, but still cool.
Zoom. 1.1x or so I think so not much, but works for a small size adjustment
Image can be inverted of flipped
Mounting screws. I ceiling mounted mine with a universal projector mounting bracket and it works great.
3D (I haven't used it yet, but still a pro)

Cons: Looking around for bulbs, they are about $225 when I looked. I did some math while I was waiting for the delivery (which may or may not be accurate) and I seem to recall coming up with a average 4 year lifespan with 3 hours a day average view time.

Single chip DLP = Rainbow effect, if you're sensitive to it. I'm in the category of I notice it occasionally but it doesn't bother me.

Other Thoughts: I did some research before buying this one and in my opinion it was the best projector in it's class/price range (the price has gone up since I bought it significantly, but this is still probably true). For 720p and the feature-set, this is a good buy. If the 3D is a selling factor for you, then it's a great buy.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

Pros: Cheap Price
720p resolution
Lots of inputs

Cons: Problems switching sources using a/v receiver (due to HDCP?) (Dr HDMI fixed this problem)

Other Thoughts: So I've owned this projector for about 7 months now as part of my 'theater room' project and I have almost no complaints about it, I haven't even thought about upgrading it either. I project on to a 70" screen about 11 ft away and it looks excellent. The 3D works great, and the high lumens make it nice and bright so its easy to view during daytime, as long as the shades are still closed on the windows.

I watch a lot of HD movies and TV shows on it along with playing PS3. It does accept a 1080p signal although it still projects with 720p resolution, but i think even @ 720p the picture still looks great.

The 3D is great to play with and doesn't require any extra equipment like $200 converter boxes (still requires the active shutter glasses, which it doesn't come with and they start at $20).

Overall, I think this is an amazing projector for starters. It has a lot of features for a cheap price. I literally use this projector everyday and love it.

5 out of 5 eggsdecent projector

Pros: This projector is very bright even in eco mode, I have no difficulty in watching movies in both daytime and night. 3D works, but the glasses are relatively expensive. Colors very vivid, fan noise is acceptable.

Cons: Sometimes response slowly, need to reboot even when change the color mode.
no speaker output, need to use an amplifier.

5 out of 5 eggsMy second Acer Projector (Excellent)

Pros: Great picture.
Throw distance is perfect.
Fan is quiet.

Cons: You have to center the projector. ( I cannot move image left or right ) The remote did not work but Acer sent me a remote replacement over night since their repair center is in TX, I got it the next day. Very happy with costumer service!

Other Thoughts: I've been using projectors for more than 10 years. This is my second Acer projector. I own the previous version of this one for more than a year and it still works perfect. My average use is of 20 hours a week since I just use it for movies, casual TV, and games. I have two theaters setup at different houses and I love them. I don't know if I am lucky but they have not failed on me yet. I will keep buying Acer projector because they do deliver and they are affordable.
I bought an Epson LCD and had to return it. The Epson projector was more expensive and somehow inferior to this Acer in picture quality and frame when watching movies.

4 out of 5 eggsGLAD I BOUGHT IT

Pros: Great color. Standard wide screen. 3D, particularly 2D-3D. Price...after the $50 cut, I paid what for 3D and a massive screen size? $400?

Cons: Mostly problems associated with all projectors. Video sync is slower than a standard TV, not as bright as a TV. Uses more power, more noise (fan) and high heat producing. Small compared to all the benefits though. I did have problems setting up Crysis 2/3 in 3D. I think it had something to do with my PC wanting to default to the non 3d 720P (there is a standard and one for 3d) in the Nvidia menu, with the refresh rate particularly, and would only show the image on half the screen. Tomb Raider worked great in 3D though.

Other Thoughts: I spent a lot of time looking at getting either a big (preferrebly 70 inch) TV or projector. As usual walked away with nothing. Can't take the weighing of this over that for too long. That's when I realized inexpensive is really what floats my boat over features. I saw this little gem and new it was what I wanted. Sacrificing full 1080 rez was a small sacrifice for this price and the other features that come with it (2D-3D), especially considering how well high def signals still look in WXGA resolution. For every 10 decisions I make 9 of them are dumb. This one was the good one. I saw the 3D as more of a side benefit. I watch things in the 2D-3D conversion a lot. It's not great 3D, but definitely adds depth to any picture.

1 out of 5 eggsDid not meet my expectations

Pros: Cheap

Cons: Can barely see the picture:
I read several reviews saying this looks pretty good even with light in the room. Not for me, usually looks pretty washed out, only in full darkness it' looks ok

Did not work with my home theater set up:
So when I attach my PS3 to my Onkyo receiver via HDMI and then I connect the receiver to the projector via HDMI, it works. But when I connect my laptop to the Onkyo via HDMI and the receiver has the same HDMI connection to the projector, it doesn't work.

You might think it's the receiver, ok, how about I connect my laptop to the receiver and then the reciever to a TV... well that works fine! So it's not the Onkyo.

This defeats 50% of why I bought this projector, it's almost useless to me if I can't connect my laptop in my set up.

Other Thoughts: So I try to get a refund from Newegg, they tell me the manufacture won't do refunds, only return and exchange. WTH? I don't care about the manufacturer Newegg, I bought this from you , you should take responsibility! It's a Home Theater Projector that doesn't work in a Home Theater set up ?!?!?!

So I contact Acer , I explain the problem, I tell them it works with the PS3 but not with the Laptop, I thought it was the receiver but the laptop with the TV work fine, so it has to be the projector. Acer's respond is if it works with the PS3 it works fine, nothing we can do but if you want you can contact our Special assistant service (or something) for one hundred dollars a consult.

Acer wants me to pay them one hundred dollars when the projector cost four hundred dollars to maybe fix the issue. A quarter of the price of the item.

So fine I ask for the replacement and decide to sell it. So I set up an auction for a projector that is supposed to cost five hundred, I got it for four hundred, maybe I'll get some money back. Auction only goes up to three hundred twenty five. Plus I got this projector box all taped up not protected, not inside another box like the first one. It seemed like another returned projector, good thing I didn't sell it.

So I have to keep a projector I don't want, I have to buy a splitter and 3 HDMI cables to try to get it to work. Too much of a hassle.

Acer and Newegg a disappointment.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Just got mine, worked great right out of the box. I have mine setup about 8ft away which gives about a 68in wide picture. I watched "Planet Earth" which I had on Blu Ray, and it was visually stunning, even being projected on a textured wall. The clarity and brightness was a lot better than I expected. Even with windows fully open during mid day I had no problem seeing the image. Played a few video games and absolutely no complaint. I liked that it had an external speaker, but you would definitely need to hook up surround sound for proper use.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: The nubs that act as stands aren't that great, but most people won't use those anyways.

5 out of 5 eggsProbably one of the best entry level projectors

Pros: Good picture quality, 3D works out of the box and is great.

Cons: RBE if you are sensitive, but not a deal breaker.

Other Thoughts: This is probably one of the best entry level projectors, especially when compared to other PJ's similar in price. This is my first projector, and I have no plans on upgrading anytime soon. It's capabilities are comparable to PJ's in the $1000+ range, definitely worth the money.Works great in many different environments, and is probably the best choice for the money. If you are sensitive to rainbow effects, this one shows it up for some scenes.
