5 out of 5 eggsThis was waaaaaaaaay worth the money. Awesome piece of equipment. It literally turns my wall into a home theater eclipsing anything a TV could do as far as size vs price is concerned.

Pros: Huge crisp projection. Love love love it!

Cons: None that I can think of.

1 out of 5 eggsGreat picture, reasonable noise levels, short life

Pros: -1080p image is crisp (much better than "diamond pixel" 720 projectors from Acer), relatively uniform (low color/brightness shift across the image)
-Fan isn't too loud, especially in ECO mode, which is plenty bright for most instances
-Price is really good

Cons: -After <200 hours of use the picture began flickering on all inputs (HDMI1, 2, DB15)
-Acer warranty replaced the main board inside to solve the flickering issue
-Replacement board began failing in exactly the same way after <5 hours of use (projector now beyond its 1 year warranty)

Other Thoughts: -If projector had worked after first warranty replacement board I would be able to recommend it
-Being 0 for 2 on projectors and now out of warranty with a failing projector, it is difficult to recommend this unit
-If you do purchase one of these, be sure to rack up lots of hours on it while in the warranty period to make sure you don't have bad solder joints on your main board

3 out of 5 eggsAt least it *STILL* works

Pros: It works as advertised. I've owned this for a short time, but I can certainly agree with most of the great reviews. I've used this product every day since receiving it and have had no problems. My expectations were certainly met.

*UPDATE*: 14 Months and 3200 hours later, it still works. Zero problems related directly to the projector. It has performed its job. Value-wise, I paid less than I have seen it since other than a Newegg via *online auction place that I cannot mention* that sold them about 60 dollars less than I paid.

Cons: A year from now, I might be able to give this product 5 eggs. But for now, here is my issue with the product. The box sent to me had security stickers placed over the original factory tape. The box had obviously been opened before being sent. The contents appeared new except for the smudge on the bulb. I'm just not sure if I received a "new in box" product.

*UPDATE*: About 2500 hours in I started noticing some discoloration in the corners. Within days after that the brightness seemed to diminish. The bulb reportedly has a 4000 hour life but shows its age long before actually failing. It is possible that this is typical and should be expected, I honestly do not know.

As others have said, the fan is loud. To be fair I should mention I sit within 10 feet of it.

Other Thoughts: I bought the extra warranty instead of returning it. Fingers crossed. It's also worth noting that the projector was shipped in its retail box. Newegg verified via email that is how they are sent.

*UPDATE*: Projector is wall mounted about 15 feet away from wall/screen. I'm using a 144 inch screen. Worked out well for a roughly 15x15 room.

5 out of 5 eggsBought it to play dragonball and watch movies

Pros: Great image quality; and from what I can tell, I am also getting 60 fps. The throw distance is also fine. Overall for mild gaming and movie watching, I am extremely satisfied with it.

Cons: I notice it getting somewhat hot after a while. Though, this is my first projector so I wouldn't have any reference as to if it is supposed to be like this.

Other Thoughts: I've only had it for a short while, so time will tell...

4 out of 5 eggspretty rad

Pros: The system overall is pretty good. The 2 zooming lenses work for fine tuning your image to scale on your screen. The options within are the usual in what you would expect on a TV such as brightness, contrast. but options like eco mode make the bulb last a little long than normal (4000 hours non-eco, upto 7000 hours eco mode) finding replacement bulbs with the housing isn't hard nor real expensive.

3D was the feature I wanted the most. Glasses are sold separate from the unit so look for DLP glasses. When you have the whole set, the 3D is better than the 3D TVs that was being sold. The bigger the screen, the better the 3D seems. I feel you get a better 3D experience with projection over some 55inch or 65inch TV. I have a family member with a 60inch 3DTV and he feels that my projection size trumps the depth of his TV simply because its larger, but that's his opinion.

Cons: it seems that forum users who have this projector and bought a universal ceiling mount (including myself) had problems with putting the projector on the mount. Most people who bought universal mounts returned them and got an acer specific mount. Keep that in mind if ceiling mounting is what you want to do. I had to take screws from a processor fan of an old, dead computer to make it work for me, but it won't work for everyone. I MacGuyver'd mine because I didn't want to go through the whole return process.

When operating in non-eco mode, the unit gets quite hot and pumps out a lot of heat. It also make the fan run faster, therefore louder. its not that big a deal if you turn on eco mode, the overall downside to eco mode is that the lamp wont be as bright as non-eco mode but its negligible in a dark room.

Within 3D mode is a 2D to 3D conversion. This is a total gimmick in my opinion. I've tried it on a number of things. Sports, new and old movies, and video games. It seems that it doesn't fully understand what parts it should and shouldn't add depth to. I figured when I tried it that the star wars intro would be a nice test. I was let down. then i figured perhaps a crazy space intro like episode 3 could utilize it a little better. Let down once again. I turned on a stand up comedy special. I was like "meh, kinda works." Played a little Final Fantasy X HD remake, I was like "NO!" Then my final tests was football, baseball games, and some wrestling. "nope." is what I said. 2D is meant to stay 2D apparently.

Other Thoughts: Other than all the extra things you need to make a projection system work (glasses, screen, optional mounting) I'd say that the system is totally worth it if you have a room that can accommodate it. with some shopping, a total set can run you about the same price as some fancy TV at a store. Sure there might be a little maintenance from time to time but its nice to have such a large format in your home if you love movies and sports. Imagine it, you'll like it.

1 out of 5 eggsFlakey

Pros: Crisp beautiful picture when it works

Cons: picture is often has purple hue when it's initially turned on, and I must turn devices on and off and keep my fingers crossed. Eventually this works itself out.
Fan is loud
After 16 months of ownership the device has started flickering. After talking to a tech they say it would take three weeks and cost a whopping $250 plus shipping for the repair. I was hoping they'd at least give me the latest firmware, but that also requires a technician.

Other Thoughts: I am very displeased, after dropping $850 on a projector, I want it to work well. And for longer than just 16 months.

5 out of 5 eggsReview Update

Pros: Bright
Sharp/Clear HD picture
Inexpensive
Lots of inputs
3D
Adjustable zoom / throw distance

Cons: Odd size mounting screws (3mm)

Other Thoughts: I wanted to update my previous review, but I couldn't find an edit button so here goes my second review of this projector after a little over one year of use.

After a year of using this projector I am very happy with the purchase. I have put nearly 400 hours on this projector and have enjoyed every minute of it. I am using this projector in my garage, primarily for sporting events, and every game looks amazing. I have watched football, basketball, soccer, baseball, and hockey games on this projector and they all look fantastic.

I went with this projector because I am using it in the garage, with the door open most of the time, and my old projector looked very washed out due to all the ambient light. This projector however has looked great even in the middle of the day for football games with the door open and the sun shining in. I was pleasantly surprised with how good the picture was even in the daylight. I am using a standard white pull down projector screen I ordered at the same time as this projector.

The picture quality is also top notch. It is comparable to my living room plasma TV. I never notice any motion blur and the contrast seems better than my plasma. Keep in mind I am watching sports which has a lot of action and fast moving camera work and I'm never sidetracked from the action thinking about the picture quality, it just looks fantastic.

The projector does have a built in speaker but I have it muted and use a soundbar. The projector speaker alone is nowhere near loud enough unless you are sitting directly under the projector in a room all by yourself, any background noise or chatter will overtake the speaker.

As for the fan noise, I never notice the fan. This may be because I typically have friends over when I'm using the projector and all the chatter is louder than the fan and the soundbar is pushing a lot more volume than the built in speaker.

In regards to the throw distance, I found it to be very forgiving with the built in zoom. If you use the throw distance calculator you can find online and place the projector in the middle of the suggested throw distances the built in zoom makes it a piece of cake to zero in on the scree size you desire.

I am also yet to see any rainbows, although I've never noticed them on any projectors so I may not be prone to the rainbow effect.

So in summary, if you do not have the ideal media room where you can block out all light and want a bright, crisp, HD projector this projector should be near the top of your list. In this price range I think you'd be hard pressed to find anything better.

3 out of 5 eggsWorks great for me!

Pros: Bright HD Picture is bright and clear even in moderately lit room. Multiple input types. Originally ordered screen but now I just fill the whole wall... will make customer screen eventually, but still looks great. 3D is cool and all but I haven't gotten the extra glasses for it.

Cons: HOT!!! Not to be unexpected with a projector. Exhausts out the front right vent so can be mounted in relatively tight recessed area.

The mounting hole on this are just weird... I've bought two different "universal mounts" and had to buy special screws to mount to the 3 smaller holes and ended up just making a custom bracket to mount. Could have used the standard camera mount by itself but that just seemed entirely too sketchy.

Finally, and this is the big one for me. The sound output from the projector just suddenly stopped working... Nothing from audio out or internal speaker. Nothing. This is a major upset preventing easy audio output from an HDMI signal. Sure I was able to route the audio from my AppleTV through digital optical after buying extra converter to RCA and optical cable but I am none the less very displeased. My contacting ACER resulted in exactly NOTHING being done. No reply email or anything. It says it is under mfr warranty right on their website when entering the SN, but I have yet to hear anything from them.

Other Thoughts: Other than the sound processing going out and it being a PITA to get mounted it really isn't a bad projector. I just might get another one if the price is right.
