Ultimate HTPC monitor
- Pros: This Sceptre Naga is an amazing LCD TV for the price.
Pros: It supports a full 1920x1080 resolution (1080p!) via the HDMI (DVI compatible) and the VGA ports. Supports 1:1 ratio when connected to a PC, meaning there's no image cropping like some TVs will do. (just make sure you select the correct HDMI/DVI setting or you will get image cropping)
Picture. Razor sharp when viewing HD video (1080 res) and still looks good (to me) when watching DVDs at 480p. Bright colors. Scales well. I watch a lot of anime and the brightness and clarity will blow you away!
Lightweight. Only weighs 60 pounds, which is less than my 19" CRT computer monitor.
No ghosting. I believe the 8ms gray-to-gray stated is pretty accurate.
Cosmetics. The TV looks a lot better than the image here suggests. The case is a nice dark metallic gray (almost black) with a black frame surrounding the screen. If you have black equipment or speakers in your HT setup, it will match perfectly.
- Cons: Cons:
Speakers. I recommend just removing them. They don't sound all that great, and the TV looks cleaner without them attached.
Picture. As with all LCD TVs, blacks aren't perfectly black. You'll have to turn up the brightness a bit or lose detail in dark scenes but then you lose your black levels. Native res looks best (as do all LCDs) but I find DVDs at 480p on Component input to be perfectly acceptable (I sit 6 feet away).
- Other Thoughts: Other Thoughts:
Speakers. The speakers are removable and since they connect from the back, removing them leaves no holes or other visible signs they were ever connected. (like a lot of other TVs do)
Base. I've heard people complain about the base (flimsy/ugly), but I disagree. It's unobtrusive and matches the rest of my black equipment. It's not flimsy either, as it holds the TV firmly in place just like it's supposed to.
I'm very happy with this TV so far. It does everything I wanted it to do, has a great picture, it's future proof with HDMI support and 1080p support, it scales well at lower res (if you do post processing with your PC and output to VGA or DVI you'll cry it looks so beautiful) and you definately can't beat the price.
Comes single boxed with thick, quality foam on the corners, and an additional unmarked thick cardboard sleeve cover and nylon straps.
Amazing
- Pros: Where to begin..
1. Picture. It has amazing quality, I'm using it as my pc monitor at 1920x1080 resolution while I write this, and it's incredibly sharp & detailed. The picture is bright, (running it on default brightness), and the contrast / sharpness is near perfect right out of the box.
2. Not 1 dead pixel.. out of 2073600 pixels (if I'm not mistaken)
3. Looks & feels sturdy, the pictures honestly don't do the unit itself justice. The finish is great, and it looks very classy and high-end. But what really makes people stare is the image.. see above.
4. It has all the connections I could want plus more, I was able to hook my PC, Xbox 360, DVD Player, PS2, theatre system, all right out of the box. AND they give you plenty of cords to do it.
5. The look you (it) gets when someone sees it for the first time. I've showed it to at least 10 friends and relatives, and all of them were stunned..
6. It's quite thin.
Too many to list, although there are a few cons
- Cons: 1. The speakers.. just about everyone reviewing this TV on newegg.com and off have recommended removing the speakers completely, and I'm afraid I have to agree.(it looks better without them).
2. Not much of a con, but it gets warm... quite warm at times. I don't even have the lamp on full blast, and it will heat up a small room in no time, hotter than both of my PCs combined.
3. $xxxx price tag.. But if you want a great HDTV .. SPEND THE MONEY.
See other thoughts for more dubious notations.
- Other Thoughts: The jittering or tearing as it seems many people are troubled with by this TV has yet to be a problem on mine. I've tried hard to find it while running numerous different devices on it, and I can't seem to notice anything irregular. (Another note: I had trouble finding any reference to this problem on this particular TV on other sites). Hoping this is a good thing.
This being my first oversized computer monitor (stepping up from a 19" LCD & a 20" CRT) the jump is amazing.. highly worth the price for the added enjoyment imo.
The price.. I guess this is both a pro and a con. It's quite pricey ($xxxx shipped for me), but compared to other LCDs of similar size and quality (true 1080p).. It is an amazing bargain.
A final note.. if you plan to use an LCDTV for a computer monitor.. do yourself a favor, and pick this one up.. or at least another one that supports 1920x1080.

image persistence
- Pros: Affordable. Great picture
- Cons: Lack of an RG6 Coaxial input. Only 1 HDMI, so prepare to buy a box. (I got 4 input rosewill). Switching through video sources. poor remote support. sub par speakers
After hooking this up for use with my PC, image persistence has been becoming a larger problem with each day. The more I use it, the quicker the persistence sets in.
- Other Thoughts: great if your looking for something affordable, however there are better options out there now.
I was gonna give it a 3 out of 5, because of the annoyances. But the picture is what counts most as the other negatives are easily fixable with things such as hdmi boxes, home audio systems, digital cable boxes, etc.
Not bad!!
- Pros: Great display
No ghosting No dead pixels Easy controls 1080i/p!!!
- Cons: No Digital Audio support
- Other Thoughts: This is my first HD TV, so i don't have much to compare it with. But this is a great deal for a beginner level home theater system!!
A-Frackin-Mazing
- Pros: Ok I'd like to premise this review by saying that this is, by far, the greatest HD TV I've ever purchased.
1.) The picture clarity is fantastic. XBOX360 via HDMI is so crisp and I see none of the ghosting that you sometimes get with fast action sequences. The response time is great. 2.) I have my spare desktop hooked up through the VGA and I actually had to turn down the resolution from 1920x1080 to 1024 so that I could read the text. The 1080p vga is so good but makes everything so tiny! 3.) I have my HD-DVR hooked up through component and no problems there at all. Fantastic picture quality. 4.) Has one of every kind of input you could imagine, and then a couple outputs too. 5.) The screen is very bright. It's actually almost too bright but you can adjust the lamp to darken it a bit.
- Cons: 1.) Switching between sources is a pain. You have to constantly press the source button over and over.
2.) Only one HDMI and only one Component. You'll really need a switcher device or high quality amplifier or something to manage more inputs. 3.) The speakers (yeah they suck. we all know) don't screw in that well to the sides even if you did want to use them. They're kind of floppy on the sides and feel like they could just snap off.
- Other Thoughts: The TV has just an amazing picture and that's what you really want out of a 1080p TV anyway. It's not light, but it is relatively thin compared to other LCD's. I would highly recommend this TV, even if it were ~$200 more than it costs right now. It's more than worth the money and you won't be disappointed.
